Chapter 1

“I thought Mike wasn’t like other Alphas, but I never thought…” My mother’s voice was thick with regret.Up until tonight, I believed it too.On my eighteenth birthday—the day my wolf woke up—I felt Mike.We bonded almost right away.As Alpha of the Moon Shadow pack, Mike was one of a kind. Not arrogant or bossy like the rest—he was gentle, respectful. For ten whole years, he stayed completely faithful. Even Luna herself saw us as the pack’s perfect pair. But tonight’s engagement party shattered all that. A decade-long dream, gone in a second.Mike had invited the one person I never wanted to see—Sandy, my stepsister, an omega.Seeing her felt like a punch to the gut. All those old, painful memories rushed back, which were cold and sharp.I remembered every daily humiliation from her and her mother.Although I was a warrior werewolf, my stepmother, as a Luna, she had the right to punish me at anytime. My wolf stirred, agitated, and before I knew it, I’d crushed my wine glass.Startled,

My mate, my Alpha, stood in the room we’d prepared for our mating ceremony, holding Sandy tight.Mike had his arms around her from behind, his voice deep and tender. “If you want me, I’ll leave Lizzy for you. I’ll make you my mate.”My head spun. My legs gave out, and I fell. It took me a minute to notice—my high heels were soaked in blood. These shoes were Mike’s engagement gift.I loved them, even though they were a size too small, leaving my feet raw and sore with every step I took.Three seconds of thought was all it took. I kicked them off and chucked them straight at the window. Two sharp gasps echoed from inside. I smiled—a bitter, tired smile.Shoes that pinch, no matter how fair, were never meant to be worn.Love that wounds, no matter how deep, is never meant to be borne.I’ve finally made up my mind to leave the Alpha I loved for ten years.Even so, our mating ceremony—the very one I’d spent a decade dreaming of, the grand, glorious gala meant for fated werewolf lovers—was f

I turned. The moment our eyes met, panic flashed across his face.“Sandy was drunk. It wasn’t safe for an omega to be out alone, so I brought her back to our place,” he explained. “Besides, she’s your sister. It’s only right that I look after her.”Mike was always a man of few words, yet when it came to Sandy, he suddenly had so much to say.And every word was in her defense.Looking at the Mike I had loved for ten years, I felt like I was staring at a stranger. We were the ones Luna had bound as mates.I was the one who had stood by his side, helping him build Moon Shadow into what it was today. So why… had I become the stand-in?“She is not my sister. She’s nothing but a homewrecker, just like her mother.” I pressed my hands against my throbbing temples, my gaze spearing Sandy with a venom I could taste. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, a low, dangerous growl vibrating in my chest, muscles coiling with the primal urge to lunge. Not a flicker of emotion crossed Sandy’s features—she st

Mike didn’t return in the days that followed. Normally, his absence meant I stepped up—managing minor pack squabbles, overseeing patrol schedules, being the silent hand that kept his domain running. This time, I let it all go.My focus was elsewhere. I prayed secretly to the Moon Goddess, pleading her to sever my mate bond with Mike. Thankfully, she heard me—and promised to keep this secret from Mike for a time. Now that this major issue was out of the way, next, I met with Zoe and Eve, my only real friends within the Moon Shadow Pack. We sat in our usual spot by the forest’s edge. When I told them I was leaving for good, they exchanged a long, knowing look.“We sort of figured,” Zoe said quietly. She pulled out her phone, opening the pack’s private forum. “Here.”She handed it to me. My fingers scrolled through a gallery of betrayal. Mike and Sandy, tanning on a sun-drenched beach. Mike and Sandy, in a bridal boutique, him holding up a veil as she twirled—a dress that wasn’t mine. Mik

My eyes slid to Sandy. Instinctively, Mike stepped between us.“Those useless betas must have sent the wrong one,” he declared, his voice tight. “This isn’t Sandy’s fault. I’ll… I’ll figure it out.”Sandy piped up, her concern dripping with false sincerity. “But it’s so last minute… ordering a new one is impossible.” She tapped her chin. “Maybe I could find a second-hand one for Lizzy? Something… simple.”Mike nodded, seizing the solution that cost him nothing. “That’s a good idea. Lizzy, consider it. And try to be reasonable. It’s not the time for your pride.”As if securing a new dress would be any hardship for an Alpha of his standing. The truth was simpler: I wasn’t worth the effort. When forced to choose between solving a problem and letting me bear the discomfort, he’d always pick the latter.A faint, serene smile touched my lips. “It’s fine. I’ll handle it myself. There’s really no need to trouble yourself over this.”The words were a clear boundary, drawn in ice.Mike frowned,

It was noon, and I had already boarded the plane. The moment I took my seat, Mike's call came through.Right at the moment, the announcement for takeoff sounded.I glanced at my phone and calmly powered it off. Leaning back in the seat, I closed my eyes and quickly fell into a deep sleep perhaps because too much had happened recently. I hadn't rested this peacefully in a long time. When I woke up, I was back on Deep Blue territory. I walked unhurriedly towards the center of the pack.A few betas recognized me from afar, I noticed that they eager to chat with me. But I just shook my head with a slight smile, and they reluctantly left.Sorry, I just wasn't in the mood for conversation yet.The sun in Misiri City was blindingly bright, unlike Shadow City, always gloomy with the faint scent of mistletoe hanging in the air.So unfamiliar, yet familiar enough to feel nostalgic.Passing the corner of KG Tower, I couldn't help but think of Mike again. That was where we first met. What was he d

I scoffed, turned off my phone, and kept walking.Just before the last rays of the sunset faded, I stood at the doorstep of the Deep Blue house. This was home. The young wolves in the house had already caught my scent and came tumbling out, laughing and jumping around me.I hadn't seen my mother Ann in years, not since she separated from my father and came to distant Misiri City to found and lead what was now Deep Blue Pack.Only when mom appeared before me did I show the most sincere smile I'd had in days. I gave her the warmest hug.Knowing I was coming back, Ann said she'd been busy for days preparing the softest mattress for me, even placing my favorite stuffed toy on the bed; the walk-in closet was stuffed with clothes for all seasons."Thank you, Mom. I love you," I said, moved."My girl, I love you too." Mom smiled with tears in her eyes, and led me to her room. She pushed her jewelry box towards me, even taking out the emerald ring that could commanded the entire pack and givin

Time seemed to reverse itself, returning to the days when Mike and I first met. He played the part of a bashful boy anew, doggedly courting me with flowers and gifts. Thanks to Mike, Deep Blue's waste disposal center was overflowing daily."Honestly," Ann commented with a scoff, her tone laced with amused disdain. "Centuries pass, technology advances, and yet the male courtship playbook is still stuck on Chapter One: 'Send Some Shitty Things.' "I looked down and smiled. "Yep. They just refuse to put in the effort."Mike never knew what I truly wanted until now.Flowers, gifts, even money—I never cared for them. What I wanted was a pure relationship, an eternally faithful heart. But clearly, Mike's heart was ever-changing. He couldn't give me what I needed, so he was no longer worth my affection."Honey, let the bad things stay in the past. " Ann said with encouragement, "I want you to do things about pack management. It'll distract you and help you develop your skills."My abilities i

Before I could react, Mike, coming from nowhere, rushed over, yanked me aside, and pulled me into his arms. The price was him being clipped hard by the truck, sending us both tumbling awkwardly on the ground.I lay on Mike's chest, listening to his heartbeat and his pained gasps as I slowly came back to my senses. It all happened too fast. I was completely unprepared. Thankfully, only Mike was injured. I was unharmed.Trying to steady myself, I was about to hold Sandy accountable. But Mike sat up, placed me to the side, stood, and slapped Sandy hard across the face."Who gave you permission to hurt her?"Mike gripped Sandy's neck. There was even murderous intent in this Alpha's eyes.Worried this would affect Deep Blue Pack's safety, I quickly pulled Mike away."Whatever you do is none of my business! And don't drag me or my pack into it. I don't have time to waste on you!"Sandy's face flushed red, breathing rapidly, but she still managed to put on a pitiful expression, "Mike…you've m
