Claire's POV.I've spent the past few days checking out apartment listings, because for some reason it's wise to prepare for the inevitable. Despite several attempts to get her words out of my mind, Rose words never leave. They haunt me, pierce me, and make me feel stupid as the day goes by. The last thing I want is for Lady Jessica–Scott’s grandmother to throw me out of Scott's house, and then I'll have nowhere to go. So I decided to start planning my exit strategy. It feels different because of how stiff she feels, how forced her smile looks, how dull her eyes are. She looks like I'm draining her of her happiness as the minutes go by.
