Chapter 1

"Mom…I'm so cold."My entire body was submerged in icy water. My skin had taken on a blue hue from the cold, and I trembled uncontrollably.Suddenly, there was a sound outside the house.I opened my eyes and, using every bit of strength I had left, climbed out of the bathtub and staggered toward the door.It must be my mom. She must have changed her mind and come back for me.I had worked so hard this year. Surely she would forgive me."Don't forget to take the gifts! The traffic's bad today. We'll be late if we have to come back for them!" she shouted."Mom…I'm sorry…"I crawled across the floor with difficulty, kneeling in the living room as I whispered my apology."I'll work even harder next year. Please…just let me take some medicine."However, my mom only glanced at the phone on my desk. Her expression immediately turned furious. She strode over and kicked me hard in the face."I told you to finish memorizing 500 words on those flash cards while you're in the bathtub!

Chapter 2

It was not until late at night that my parents and Jason returned, laughing as they walked in."Dinner was really good today. That hotel was nice. We should go again sometime, just the three of us," my mom said cheerfully.I stood in the living room, my heart filled with a tangled mix of emotions. When she said 'the three of us,' she had completely left me out of the picture. As I watched her take off her shoes, I instinctively stepped forward, ready to hang up her coat.It was my duty in this family.Standing before her, I spoke softly, "I was wrong. I'll work even harder in the future. Will you forgive me?"However, my words faded into the air.My mom did not hear a thing.Instead, she frowned slightly in irritation."My ears suddenly feel itchy. Am I getting sick?"I stood there awkwardly, lowering my head to look at my own transparent body.I had almost forgotten.I was already dead, and no one could hear the words of the dead."Why hasn't Erwin come out yet? Go check

Chapter 3

Early the next morning, my mom hurried everyone in the house to get up and prepare for a visit to my grandmother's house. She deliberately raised her voice and said, "Grandma’s giving Jason a gift today. Lazy trash doesn’t get one."Listening to her words, I took two steps forward, unable to hide my longing. In the past, every New Year, my grandmother would give both Jason and me gifts and pocket money.I always hoped I could freely spend that money to buy something I actually needed. However, my mom always said that lazy people did not deserve money, so I never had any.Unfortunately, it was also my only chance to get some pocket money. If it were before, hearing my mom say that would have made me rush over immediately, admit my mistakes, and beg her to take me along.I could not do that anymore."Erwin still hasn't come out?" my dad asked as he adjusted his clothes."No. He probably thinks if he keeps this up, I'll eventually soften."My mom slipped on her shoes impatientl

Chapter 4

As my mom continued kicking me, my face was finally exposed again before her.My face was pale, my eyes were half open, and my skin was stiff and swollen.I looked very different from the face she usually saw.My body was covered in purple frostbite and countless marks of abuse. The software, the discipline app she trusted so completely, was still running.Facing my lifeless body on the floor, it let out a harsh buzzing sound, saying, "Failed! No effort detected. Failed!"Only when the phone's final trace of battery drained did it suddenly fall silent with a soft click. My head rolled and struck the corner of the desk.A workbook that had been lying on the table slipped off and landed at my mom's feet. She lowered her head. The pages were filled with writing.[Mom, I really did try my best. I told you so many times… If there is another life, will you forgive me?]"Erwin!" my mom screamed. She collapsed onto the floor, shaking her head desperately as tears streamed down her

A sharp alarm rang out in everyone's ears."Failed. Task incomplete!"The mechanical voice echoed through the room.It sounded like a blade stabbing through the bodies of everyone present. My mom froze. The confident expression she had worn moments before completely vanished. She grabbed the phone and began refreshing the app frantically, even smacking the screen a few times."What's going on? Is the connection broken? Everyone here just saw it. I finished the task!"Her voice trembled. Her whole body was shaking."The phone must've run out of battery and messed up the software settings. I'll recalibrate it... it'll be fixed soon…"She turned as if to leave. She kept trying to explain herself."This is just a one-time error. It's never like this normally. I've never harmed Erwin!""Failed. Task incomplete!"Even though the app had already been closed, the unbearable noise continued. My mom screamed and instinctively tried to shut the phone off completely.Suddenly, the

My parents and my brother were all taken to the police station. To confirm what had happened that day, the three of them were interrogated together.Right in front of them, the police opened my phone and pulled up the videos stored inside. They were recordings I had made over the years.Fragments of the miserable life I had lived. The first video was from last winter.I had not completed my task, so my mom had punished me by forcing me to kneel in the snow the entire night. My knees were swollen and aching, covered in frostbite and streaks of blood. However, the monitoring software she had left there still declared me a failure. She flew into another rage.Without hesitation, she smashed an iron rod down on my right hand, breaking the bone. Then, she forced me to sit at the desk and memorize 500 new words while she watched. My hand was already grotesquely deformed, but out of fear of her punishment, I kept writing. The pain was so intense that I nearly fainted.Watching th

My death caused a huge stir in the neighborhood.I had always been known as a diligent and hardworking student, so people found it impossible to believe that I had been abused at home for being lazy. Some classmates who had been close to me posted the story online. In their posts, they listed all the favoritism my mom had shown over the years, along with that ridiculous software she had created. The story quickly spread across the internet.Netizens flooded the comment sections.[Does a woman like this even deserve to be called a mother? She must be punished!][Using such cruel methods against your own child... This is nothing less than intentional murder!]Public outrage exploded. Some people even went to protest outside my parents' workplaces.Others went to the police station to provide additional evidence of the abuse I had suffered. In the end, my parents paid a heavy price for their actions.Jason had never been directly proven to have taken part in what happened to m

Chapter 8

Due to my mom's repeated acts of extreme self-harm, she was transferred from the ordinary psychiatric ward to the special care unit. She became a patient under constant observation.Every day, she was strapped to a chair and forced to take medication.Even so, she continued to behave wildly.Whenever someone came close, she would kick and thrash like a madwoman."Let me go! Erwin is still waiting for me to apologize!"She began refusing food and water. She refused her medication as well, and her condition deteriorated rapidly. When doctors tried to persuade her, she spat at them and screamed."I failed! I'm trash! I don't deserve to live!"Soon, she grew thin and gaunt. The doctors had no choice but to force-feed her through a tube.Only through such suffering did my mom feel satisfied. She believed that only by torturing herself enough would I finally be appeased.Until one day, Jason came to visit.Since both of our parents had been imprisoned, he had to endure endless
