The young woman beside the now-empty wheelchair remained frozen in place, staring at me as if I were a ghost risen from the grave. Her mouth hung slightly open. I gaze around to be sure I wasn't missing something. Then I swallowed my own shock, I walked over to her slowly. Trying to walk as normal as possible because people are starting to stare at me in a very embarrassing way. “Hello... Are you with Mr. Carter?” I asked her. “Yes. I’m his daughter. And from the way my father just bolted... you must be Lena. The woman who owned him money.” She simply replied. Oh my goodness. What exactly had he told her about what happened between us? “Um...” I shifted uncomfortably, heat rising to my cheeks. She stepped closer, her expression softening into genuine remorse. Which surprised me. “Look, I don't want any trouble,” I said, feeling a bit uncomfortable with her warmth. I had thought she would be like her father, but I was wrong. “I... I just wanted to say I

I was just about to talk to someone about the kid when I heard rapid footsteps echoing down the hallway behind me.I turned around quickly, wincing slightly at the sharp ache that reminded me why I was here in the first place.A woman was rushing toward me, her face flushed with worry that melted instantly into pure relief the moment her eyes landed on the little girl in my arms.“Oh, thank goodness!” she breathed, pressing a hand to her chest. “She’s safe. I turned around for one second and she ran off. I’m so, so sorry for this… for any inconvenience she caused you. Thank you for holding onto her.”“It’s okay,” I said softly, offering a gentle smile. "She was an angel, really. No trouble at all.”I carefully handed the child over, feeling an unexpected tug in my chest as her warm little body left my arms. The mother hugged her daughter tightly, murmuring soothing words and kissing the top of her head. She gave me one last grateful look before hurrying away.I stepped into the exam r

“Come sit,” he said gently, guiding me toward the dining table. “I cooked this specially for you. First time cooking, because I wanted to do something nice for you.”He cooked just for me?!I blushed unconditionally."Thanks… that makes me so happy."I lowered myself onto the chair very slowly, biting the inside of my cheek as a fresh wave of soreness flared up.Mitch disappeared into the kitchen and returned with two plates, setting one in front of me with pride. The food looked surprisingly good — grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, and buttery rice."Mitch… are all these for me?" I said, worried because I expected mostly vegetables."Yes… don't worry about calories for today. I don't remember the last time you ate real food."I looked up at him and smiled, warmth blooming in my chest. I felt tears coming."Thank you, baby. This means a lot. It smells amazing."“I know I’ve been rough on you the past few years,” he continued as he sat across from me, “but look at me, learning how t

Just then, a soft knock came at the door.Enzo, Ricardo's personal bodyguard, cracked it open."Boss, your daughters are here."I watched Ricardo's stern face immediately soften into something resembling panic."Now? I told them—"The door swung open wider before he could finish, and the three walked in.Gianna, Serafina, and Keisha. All three pairs of eyes landed on me.The first to reach me was Gianna, the eldest child, twenty-eight years old. Dressed in a wine-red dress with a high slit, she always carried herself like a queen."Look at you, handsome," she teased, playfully poking my chest. "Your arms are even bigger than last time. What are you, a human tank? I have missed you."She pouted her lips for a kiss, but I kissed her cheek instead."Nice to see you again, Gianna."She pouted. "Rejection hurts. Move aside, drama queen." Serafina said mocking her sister. She's the middle child, twenty-five years old — the wild and rebellious one. She had short platinum blonde hair style

"Oh hello, Tarzan..." I waved awkwardly. I was ignored. The girl looked back at me in irritation, like I was some plague or maybe a witch who guessed his name right. I didn't know why the first thing I did was call his name and wave. What did I expect? He's with his girlfriend, obviously... Men like that would even deny knowing me. I knew he was lying when he said he had none. I mean, look at him. Maybe... I was just shocked. I didn't know how to react... so I just... said hello. The girl with him was very pretty—curly-haired Latina, wearing a fluffy white jacket, a sequin crop top, and a designer denim micro skirt that flashed her butt cheeks with every step. She was young, petite. Their height difference and gorgeousness were turning heads around. I slowly put my hand down like an idiot. Honestly, she suits him. When I got to the café, Julia and Gabi were already there, trying to give the café their best decorations for the upcoming Valentine's. Gabi was standing on a s
