Chapter 21VICTOR'S POV I sat by the kitchen table, across from my daughter and unable to look in her eyes. The shame and frustration from all the terrible decisions I had made in the past hung over me like a heavy, wet cloak.I had not initially expected her to let me into her space without confrontation and I had even gone ahead to plan what to say if that happened, but she had actually beckoned me to come in and offered water. When I heard what she had done for the Alpha, I wept bitterly, realizing the daughter I had banished had now become the pack's own savior, and I could not help but track her down as soon as possible."I know it's pretty late and you're probably wondering why I'm here, but I think I owe you two important things." Her only response was a slight tilt of her head and I swallowed. In the dim light, I could not decipher the look on her face but I hoped she did not hate me for what I did as I already hated myself. "I owe you an apology. There was not much I could

Chapter 22FREYA'S POV I had always held a small fraction of distrust for Julian.Granted, he had done so much to keep us all safe in Sera's cabin, but it was not so easy to completely forgive the same man who had slapped me so hard for something that wasn't my fault. He had no idea what had actually happened then and was just carrying out his duty as beta, but none of those facts had cleared the pain of that day. Now that I was convinced he had earned my complete trust, I concluded that he deserved to know the whole truth; that I was not just marked by the Alpha, but I was also pregnant for him.Julian stood stiffly, staring back at me with cold dark eyes after I had told him everything. His jaw was tight and his knuckles around the water mug were completely white. His reaction scared me, and I was certain that if that mug could speak, it would be pleading and crying out for help. I could almost hear the thoughts whirring in his head as he tried to come up with whatever was a sui

Chapter 23FREYA'S POV "What the hell are you doing?" I snapped at Cassandra as I snatched the mug and set it down by the bedside table.I was far too concerned about what she had been trying to give the Alpha to even wonder how I had covered the long distance between the door and the bed with only a step.Cassandra's face squeezed into a familiar look of disgust the second she saw it was me, but she quickly fixed her expression, her frown turning to a smile within seconds."Oh Freya," she muttered condescendingly with a small chuckle but her tone did not even deter me. I've had years to get used to it.What pissed me off instead was her palm spread flat on the Alpha's torso like it was naturally supposed to be there. He seemed to be asleep and a part of me wondered what he felt about her. They had not even been publicly confirmed, so technically, she was just like any other wolf in the pack too."What are you doing here?" Cassandra asked and my eyes snapped back to hers."I'm in cha

Chapter 24REGINALD'S POVI stood by my office window, overlooking the pack as the recent update I'd received about Freya troubled me.She had established herself back faster than I had imagined and even I knew that taking a hit on her now would raise suspicions.Healing three sick pups in just a week...I huffed frustratedly at that. She was gaining the love and loyalty of the people, and quickly in fact. They were beginning to see her as a savior, much to my disadvantage. I had still refused to meet with Julian, making up excuses about having too many meetings to attend to and keeping him busy attending to security matters whenever I could.Months ago, the whole plan was clearly and carefully drafted, and although I had made room for contingencies, I had not expected things to take this turn.Despite the setbacks, I was not one to give up, not when I had given so much to make this work. I had resolved to take control of the pack and I would, by all means necessary.A sudden knock

Chapter 25FINNLEY'S POV I returned to the pack house the next day to speak to Bria to know what new updates she had. I desperately needed eyes on Reginald and the visitors he had and Bria was the only reliable source.Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found at the infirmary where she worked. One of the workers had mentioned that she had gone off to get supplies but had not returned, and although I found it odd, I did not dwell on it. I opened the door of the infirmary and popped my head in, waving to a few of the attendants who knew me. Bria was still not here. Strange."Hey, how's it going today?" I asked Sloane, one of the senior attendants who was stacking up medications and pills on a tray."Quite busy," she passed me a quick smile and picked the tray."No, let me help with that," I offered and grabbed the tray from her."Thank you, Finnley. This way, please." I allowed a few beats of silence to pass before speaking again."Hey, I don't think I saw Bria in there this morni

Chapter 26GIDEON'S POV I heard the loud, commanding voice as clear as crystal before I actually saw him. It seemed a few guards had tried to get in his way and with only a few threats, he had managed to scare them all away.A few seconds later, Julian was at my door. My ever loyal beta. His eyes were wide as he stared at me, taking in how much I had changed since I fell ill. While I hated that he'd had to carry the weight of the pack on his shoulders all of a sudden and ensure peace remained during these times, I was however not worried because I knew my pack was in good hands."Alpha," he greeted with a bow of his head and I forced myself to into a sitting position."Well, well. It's been a minute, hasn't it?" A smirk formed on my lips and he smiled in return."I would have come earlier but there's been quite a lot of trouble at the border, and Cassandra ans the Elders were strict about the visiting list, so I..." I raised a hand to silence him. "I completely understand. And I d

Chapter 27FREYA'S POV One minute, my heart was pounding hard in my chest from locking eyes with Gideon at the end of his speech, the next minute, my heart was hammering against my ribcage with fear.I was constantly spun around in every direction by the large crowd moving out of the pack house while the paper that basically threatened my life burned in my palm. The words seemed to dance around in my head, almost making me dizzy.>> Cut off every tie you have with the Alpha, or your secret will be exposed before the entire pack.

Chapter 28GIDEON'S POV I had already expected the look of absolute shock on her face even before I saw it.For someone who had mastered the art of restraint and self control early, it surprised me how easily it was to put all of that aside when it came to her.The realization of that dawned on me as I sat across from her in the quiet room that was her workspace. The bond pulled at my chest to see her so in her element, wearing a loose shirt with the sleeves rolled up and her hair tied loosely at the back of her head. Seeing her without the professional composure and outfit warmed my heart more than I cared to admit. The smell of crushed herbs and chemical compounds made me consider moving the venue of our sessions to her space instead, just for easier medical administration of course."You really did not have to come here, Alpha, especially not in your condition." "I was only bothered because you did not show up today and wanted to make sure everything was alright," I argued. "Bes

Chapter 29FREYA'S POV I was completely aware of the procedure Doctor Carver was explaining, but I wished I wasn't.Standing this close to Alpha Gideon was already enough punishment to my senses, having to go through the intimate process of administering the antidote was another level."So..." Doctor Carver drawled, his gaze moving from me to Gideon and then back to me. "Are we doing this or what?" I felt Gideon's gaze on me, waiting for me to respond first. I shrugged, pretending to be unbothered and nonchalant about the whole thing. "Of course. Unless you have any...?" "Definitely not," he said quietly with a small shake of his head and I exhaled."Alright then," Doctor Carver moved back to his table to get the antidote. I blew out a breath and folded my arms in front of me. I had not even touched him yet and I was already a bag of nerves.Had it always been so hot in this cabin? We definitely need more windows."Are you ready?" Gideon whispered beside me, as though he could se

Chapter 30JULIAN'S POV I stood around the table with the other senior warriors and enforcers, the map showing the Willow Ridge territory spread out in front of us."So we've been able to stabilize the Northern border, yes?" I asked for confirmation and the man beside me nodded."And we need more men deployed to the south as well?" Again, he nodded and I clapped him on his shoulder. "Great job, I'll send word as soon as possible to get the men out here," I assured him and looked around our tent. We were pitched close to the north border since it was our military center. Every report on matters concerning the border and security was brought back here and most of the men spent days working without sleep."Any word from any of the search parties for Bria Jones?" I asked."Still nothing for today, Beta Julian."I wiped the sweat from my forehead and gritted my teeth. I needed to get word back to the Alpha as soon as possible but there was still nothing substantial to report.Just then
