Chapter 1

At the entrance to the black market, I spotted my youngest godmother, Joyce Smith, from a distance.Excitement surged through me.I rushed toward her, ready to call out her name. Before I could, my father, Austin Long, grabbed me from behind and held my arms tight, tying me up so I could not move.My mother, Daniela Cobb, pried my mouth open.A bottle of medicine was forced down my throat, and searing pain ripped through me.I coughed up a mouthful of blood, only to realize I could no longer speak.Daniela wiped the blood that had splattered onto the hem of her skirt, her face full of disgust."Trying to get someone to call the police? Don't blame us. This is what happens when you refuse to behave."Before I had a chance to catch my breath, an icy iron mask was clamped tightly over my face.Austin, Daniela and Braxton Long each put on a mask as well.I had almost forgotten.Joyce had once told me that wealthy people loved doing terrible things, but they hated letting anyone

Chapter 2

Joyce glanced at me, and a look of pity crossed her face as she frowned. She stepped between Austin and me."You booked a surgery, didn't you? If you beat him half to death, how is the operation supposed to proceed? Come with me."The doctor had not arrived yet, so we could only wait in the hospital room.Joyce looked through the appointment form, her eyes widening in surprise."A brain transplant? Did this young man actually agree to this?"She looked at me.I shook my head as hard as I could. In response, Austin immediately slapped me.I crashed into a metal cabinet, and bright stars exploded across my vision.Daniela quickly jumped in with a smile."Of course he agreed. He's our biological son."It's just that he was switched at birth. The one who grew up with us for over ten years is our precious boy here."Now that our real son is back, naturally our precious Braxton is going to be upset. We have to make it up to him somehow."Daniela wrapped an affectionate arm arou

Chapter 3

The wounds on my face hurt too much.I missed my jump and crashed hard onto the floor.Joyce stared at me, momentarily stunned. Just as she reached down to help me up, the door suddenly burst open.Austin and Daniela walked in with Braxton."Sweetheart, as soon as the surgery's over, I will take you out for a huge feast!"Their voices were dripping with affection. However, the moment they looked at me, their smiles vanished. Their faces turned icy."So, you were trying to run? You stole your brother's place as the heir of this family and you stole the love that should've been his. What's wrong with giving a little of it back? Why are you so selfish?"Austin lifted his foot and stomped down on my left leg with all his strength.Crack.The sound of my bone breaking echoed through the room.A scream was caught in my throat. The pain curled my whole body into itself, and I shook uncontrollably."Still thinking about running?"He raised his foot again, aiming for my right leg.

Chapter 4

Braxton let out a bloodcurdling scream.I bit down with every ounce of strength I had left, then jerked my head hard.Rip.His ear tore clean off."You little b*stard! How dare you!"Daniela charged at me like she had gone completely insane and shoved me away with all her strength.Out of the corner of my eye, I caught the change in Zara's expression. She was the one who had taught me that if I was losing a fight, I should go for the eyes or bite the other person's ear.The pain would make them let go, giving me a chance to escape.I looked at her one last time. I no longer dared hope she would recognize me.I turned and ran.Joyce only made a token attempt to stop me.Dragging my broken leg behind me, I rushed through a small door at the end of the hallway. It was the secret my godmothers had told me about."Sebastian, remember this. If anything ever happens at the black market, run through here. Keep running, and don't look back."Behind me, both Zara and Joyce froze.

Chapter 5

Austin and Daniela froze."You... know this little brat?"What's going on? Our investigation said he grew up on the streets. He wasn't supposed to have any family or friends."Bang! The operating room door flew open with a violent kick.My eldest godmother, Lily Smith was the first to rush in.She had buttoned her coat wrong in her hurry, and her tie hung crooked around her neck. It was obvious she had raced there without stopping.Behind her, the deafening roar of motorcycle engines echoed through the hallway. My sixth and seventh godmothers strode in, each carrying a heavy wrench. My third godmother followed at an unhurried pace, calmly adjusting her glasses. She held up her phone, where she had already compiled a long list of Austin and Daniela's crimes. My fourth godmother slipped on a pair of boxing gloves, my fifth godmother pulled out her laptop and hacked straight into Austin's company's website. All eight women crowded into the room until there was barely any space l

Chapter 6

I spent three full days in the hospital. When I finally woke up, warm sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, spilling across my blanket. The room was huge. There was a sofa, TV, refrigerator, and the nightstand was piled high with flowers and gifts from my godmothers. From the moment Joyce built the black market, she had reserved its best hospital room just for me.Whenever I got sick, this was where I stayed. The moment I saw the familiar room, the tension that had gripped me for days finally melted away.Joyce was sitting beside my bed, peeling an apple. When she saw my eyes open, she froze for a moment, then smiled."You're awake. Hungry?"She cut the apple into small pieces, speared one with a toothpick, and held it to my mouth. The rest of my godmothers were there too. They had all been busy with their own things, but the instant they realized I was awake, they hurried over and surrounded my bed.Lily looked at my heavily bandaged hands, her face full of

Chapter 7

The Long family had been locked inside one of the metal rooms. By now, they had been beaten so badly they barely looked human. On the way there, I remembered how Austin had threatened to lock me inside one of those rooms. Seeing what had become of them, I could not help feeling a little bittersweet.Braxton's brain transplant had already been completed. It had been an incredibly difficult surgery, one no one had ever successfully performed before. Even Zara had not been confident she could do it.However, to get justice for me, she pushed past every technical challenge and replaced Braxton's brain with the very one he had prepared for me.The brain of an idiot.I stared at him curiously. If someone really received an idiot's brain... would they actually become an idiot?Braxton's eyes were crooked, his mouth hung to one side, and saliva dripped from his lips every time he moved. He certainly looked like an idiot. However, when he noticed me staring at him, humiliation and rage

Chapter 8

"Braxton... what are you saying?" Austin was so furious that he clutched his chest, struggling to catch his breath. "We raised you for eighteen years. We treasured you more than anything. Even after our biological son came home, we never treated you unfairly. How could you do this to us?"Daniela looked just as devastated.Pointing at Braxton through her tears, she cried, "You were the one who kept crying every day, saying that once your brother came home, we wouldn't love you anymore. We only mistreated our own son to make you happy."We gave you the biggest bedroom with the best sunlight, while Sebastian slept in the basement. Everything we did was for you!""You were the one who cried because Sebastian scored a hundred points higher than you on the practice exam. You were terrified he'd leave you in the dust one day."You begged us for his brain. For your sake, we spent so much money and went through so much trouble just to find this hospital. And now you're saying something li

Chapter 9

In the end, the Long family was released. After talking it over, all eight of my godmothers reached the same conclusion."Killing them would only dirty our hands."Besides," my third godmother said as she pushed open the door, a folder tucked under her arm, "I think letting them live a fate worse than death sounds much more interesting."A sly glint flashed behind her gold-rimmed glasses."I've already had someone audit the Long family's company. Tax evasion, fake invoices and corporate fraud. They've committed just about every financial crime you can think of."I've already reported everything anonymously. Once the investigation starts... They're finished."I blinked in surprise. "You're going to destroy their company?"Lily closed the folder and looked at me with complete seriousness."They showed you no mercy. So why should we show them any?"Sebastian, once the Long family is completely crushed, anyone else who thinks about hurting you will think twice."I never want to

Chapter 10

I looked up at Zara, curiosity filling my eyes. She hesitated for a moment before speaking."After the Long family was released, they turned on each other."Austin and Daniela hated Braxton. They could not forgive the fact that, just to save himself, he had betrayed them at the black market.Their hearts had gone completely cold. After raising him for eighteen years, they felt they had devoted everything to the wrong child. So, they decided to cut all ties with him and throw him out of the family. However, after the brain transplant, Braxton had become almost completely disabled. He cried and begged them over and over, hoping they would have a change of heart and give him one more chance. That was when Braxton's biological mother showed up.My heart skipped a beat. For some reason, I felt both hopeful and uneasy."What did she say?""She threatened the Longs. She claimed she had evidence of their crimes. If they didn't want everything exposed, they would have to pay her a la
