Chapter TwoAs Lohan fell asleep, Simone emerged again to join those who were keeping vigil that night. Up to now, Simone still couldn't believe that she had finally met Colleen's irresponsible husband, who had been missing for over six years. She still felt the ache in her heart. She didn't understand why her heart raced when she saw Jonathan Clark, perhaps it was her instinct to recognize who Jonathan was and suddenly appeared tonight. She was greeted by Carol and other neighbors who were also attending the wake. Some were drinking but not drunk yet, still in their right minds."Oh Simone, sorry for letting that man in, huh. Although we had an idea who he was, we thought it might cause a scene if we sent him away," Carol apologized, Lucille’s daughter. "But even though we let him in, we're ready to kick him out if needed," she added, nodding to the others who agreed.Simone shook her head. "You don't need to explain. I think it's normal for him to come to his ex-wife's wake," she sa

When they reached the correct floor, Lorenzo headed straight to the secretary's desk, with Simone following closely behind.“Does OJC have any visitors?” Lorenzo asked.“No, sir. But he's preparing for his meeting later.”Lorenzo simply nodded before leading Simone toward the closed office door. Simone glanced at the secretary, expecting to stop her because she didn't have an appointment. Instead, the woman continued answering phone calls as if they weren't there, allowing them to pass without question.Lorenzo knocked first before opening the door.Inside, they found Jonathan deeply engrossed in reading several documents. A pair of reading glasses rested on his nose as he worked in front of his laptop. Just as the secretary had said, he was clearly busy preparing for his upcoming meeting.“Yes?” Jonathan responded without even looking up.Lorenzo cleared his throat before speaking.“Miss Simone is here, Mr. Clark.”Jonathan paused. He slowly lifted his head, and for the first time, h

Simone had been wanting to go home for quite some time now. It was already raining, and the sun had long since set, but Jonathan had been tied up in one meeting after another, leaving him no chance to come back for her. That was why she was so confused when he suddenly took her along with him. Before she knew it, Jonathan's staff were shielding them with umbrellas as they escorted them toward his white limousine.Once they were both seated in the backseat of the limo, Simone finally found the chance to ask the question that had been bothering her. Joe had walked so quickly earlier that she hadn't even had the opportunity to speak, much less refuse."Why do I have to come with you, Mr. Clark?"He turned to face her, his serious expression making her instinctively hold back the words on the tip of her tongue."It's getting late. You'll be the one picking it up at the house so you won't have to wait alone in my office.""I thought your housekeeper had already looked for it and would be t

Simone could only let out a sigh. She no longer resisted when Lorenzo guided her and supported her as they headed toward the car. She remained quiet throughout the entire journey, staring out the window at the passing scenery while recalling everything Jonathan had said. She knew that Colleen and her older brother were also at fault, which was why she understood why Jonathan had made such a decision and why he was so angry with them. Perhaps, despite how terrible husband Jonathan had been to Colleen back then, he had still loved his wife and had been hurt when Colleen left him for someone else. It was no wonder that after everything that had happened, Jonathan truly no longer wanted to see Colleen.Because of that, Simone had made up her mind. It would be better if Joe never found out about the twins. She did not want the two children to carry the burden of their mother's mistakes. Whatever comfort Jonathan could have given the twins, she promised herself that she would be the one to
