Chapter 1

I quietly scooted back to my side of the bed, putting even more distance between Kelvin Underwood and me.A moment later, however, he opened his eyes and studied me for a long moment."What's wrong?"His deep, velvety voice almost melted away my bad mood. I was about to inch closer again when the comments flashed before my eyes again.[LOL! The male lead is doing everything he can to find an excuse to break up with her. The second female lead doesn't think he's trying to make her happy, does she?]"It's nothing," I replied. "I'm sleepy."I edged a little farther toward the edge of the bed again.Kelvin lay flat on his back, though it looked like he'd shifted a little in my direction."Going to bed this early?"I turned on my phone screen. It was only 10:00 pm. Normally, at this hour, I'd be all over him. The more reserved and reluctant he acted, the more excited I'd become.Just like right now—the warmth radiating from his body was enough to pull my mind into the gutter.Als

Chapter 2

Sometime around midnight, my phone started chiming nonstop with notifications. I groggily unlocked it, but the second I saw what was on the screen, I was wide awake.A post on the campus forum speculating that Kelvin would dump me as soon as Tamara returned had shot back up to the top of the trending news. The catalyst was that one of Kelvin's closest friends had liked the post, and then Tamara herself had stepped in to clarify that she was only back to take care of some personal matters and that it had nothing to do with "a certain someone".But instead of quelling the gossip, it only whipped the online crowd into a frenzy. The floating comments were just as riled up.[Tamara is obviously back to win Kelvin back. She only posted that to make him mad and get back at him for dating someone else for such a long time.][This kind of relationship is the juiciest! They can't give in to their love for each other, yet they can't bear to hate each other either. The main characters have t

Chapter 3

The next morning, I was shaken awake by Kelvin."Didn't you say you had things to do today? It's almost 10:00 am. Are you going to be able to make it? I'm going to campus as well. Come with me?"Kelvin was already dressed and ready. On the table sat a fresh breakfast burrito. It was clear he'd waited in line at the diner downstairs to get it for me. The gloom weighing on my chest since last night instantly thawed at the sight of the steam curling from the food.I glanced at the laundry hanging tangled together out on the balcony and at the cabinet stocked with all the colorful drinks I loved interspersed with the red wine and coffee beans he liked. All this time we'd been together, Kelvin had actually been genuinely good to me.He was the one who took care of me in our daily lives, handling the cleaning, the laundry, and the cooking. If…[Kelvin is just too nice. He just has to pull the tiniest stunt, and Stephanie is already so moved. LOL! I swear she's about to cry. She's so g

Chapter 4

It felt like my heart had sunk into an icy pit. This time, I didn't need the comments to tell me that Kelvin was going to take the heirloom bracelet to go find the woman he loved. He didn't want to break up with me because he still needed me to help him get together with Tamara.Whatever. There was only one semester left until graduation, and graduation season was breakup season anyway.I used to think that Kelvin and I would be the exception, but now, it seemed that no matter how sweet the journey had been, the ending would still inevitably be the same. The moving company arrived right on schedule. My parents had always been reluctant to see me get married anyway, and my older brother, Marcus Ward, had also warned me against shaping my future around a man. When they heard that I was breaking up and moving out, they immediately booked the most expensive moving service available and rented a studio apartment for me near campus. In less than an hour, every single belonging of mine

Chapter 5

Astura was beautiful, and the coursework was demanding enough that I threw myself completely into my studies.I assumed that I would be able to completely forget my old life. But every day, when I sat down to eat or lay down to sleep, my thoughts would inevitably drift back to Kelvin.Regardless of everything, he had been a really good boyfriend.I'd been pampered by my family since I was a kid, so I was used to enjoying the finer things in life. And when I was with Kelvin, I had never had to compromise on my standards.Sometimes, when I found him dull, I would deliberately act difficult just to mess with him. Sometimes, I'd complain that the food was too bland or too dry or that I suddenly craved a meal from a diner in the neighboring city. And like an idiot, he'd actually cater to every single one of my whims. He'd actually driven all the way to the neighboring city just to look for the diner I mentioned. After an hour of searching, a heavy rainstorm hit. I told him to stop loo

Chapter 6

I made my decision without hesitation, but my coursework was so overwhelming that I barely even had time to leave campus to look for food from back home. Choking down the bland Asturian food was quickly becoming a form of torture.Mom and Dad offered to come take care of me, but I turned them down. Marcus also offered to hire a housekeeper who knew how to cook Lodairian cuisine. Honestly, it wasn't a bad idea, as I was truly reaching my breaking point. To my surprise, the very next day, Patricia Kimball, an upperclassman of mine who also came from Lodair, showed up with a spread of mouthwatering food. Every single dish was one of my favorites.I was so touched I didn't even know how to thank her."Actually…" she started hesitantly. But after surviving on boring food for so many days, I finally felt alive again. And so I was far too busy devouring the meal to pay any attention to her.Seeing me so ravenous, she didn't continue either. For the next several days, she continued to b

Chapter 7

[Stephanie is so insufferable! Kelvin was obviously just greeting someone he knows. She doesn't seriously think he's smiling at her, does she?][Our precious Tamara is here! As expected, the moment she appears, Kelvin doesn't even notice anyone else. Don't tell me Stephanie is still dreaming of throwing herself at him and ruining their relationship?][Kelvin is clearly head over heels for Tamara! They just need the right opportunity—one little push. Having Stephanie around might actually speed things up. I hope she gives them the push they need!][In that case, I'm cheering Stephanie on, too. Please spend more time helping our lovebirds out!]Me? Give them a push? These comments really were infuriating! They were totally twisting the truth! When Kelvin and I were together, their precious female lead was the one desperately trying to win back the man she couldn't have. Why didn't anyone call her the home-wrecking third wheel back then?I looked up again, and sure enough, Kelvin w

Chapter 8

Even after the conference ended, I still couldn't make sense of everything that had been happening lately.Seeing how preoccupied I was, Patricia grabbed me and headed for the exit. But right as we reached the doors, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. It was only then—after finally snapping back to my senses—that I saw that the person blocking our way was none other than Kelvin, the person I hadn't seen in a long time. There was a hint of quiet hurt in his eyes. My own eyes started stinging, and I tried to step around him, but he only stepped in front of me yet again."Aren't you already back with your first love?" I blurted out. "What are you doing coming to find me? Your girlfriend is over there!"Even though I was starting to have suspicions, I still couldn't help venting a bit of my bitterness.Kelvin grabbed my hand and refused to let go."You've lost so much weight, Stephanie," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "Didn't I tell you that no matter what happens, you have

Chapter 9

[Kelvin's doing this on purpose. He's jealous, but he's pretending not to care. Deep down, he's probably losing his mind over that jacket.][Of course he is! He even said 'I'd be happy for you both' out of spite. I feel so bad for Tamara. She must be so heartbroken.][It's okay. This novel's supposed to be angsty-to-sweet anyway. Without the angst, the happy ending wouldn't feel as satisfying.][The more I see Stephanie, the more I find her annoying. I can't believe she's still wedging herself between our main couple even at a time like this. If I could transmigrate into the story, I'd slap her into next week!][Don't worry. She'll get what's coming to her soon enough…]Only a few comments had appeared when they started predicting my tragic ending again. The first time I'd seen them, I'd been terrified. But now, I was practically numb to them. In fact, I found their so-called endings rather lacking in creativity. While I was still lost in thought, a pair of arms wrapped around m

Chapter 10

Out of breath, Rob came running over and grabbed hold of Tamara, whose emotions were quickly spiraling out of control."Tammy, you've already done everything you possibly could. If you actually stood a chance, would you be standing here throwing a hysterical fit?"I know you don't want to accept it, but this is just how things were meant to be between you and Kelvin. You need to let it go."Tamara collapsed onto the ground in a pathetic heap, sobbing uncontrollably. Gone was the poised and demure "first love" I'd seen when we first met.Kelvin didn't linger for another second. He took my hand and led me away. To my complete surprise, he led me all the way to my apartment with practiced ease."So, the meals Patricia brought me were your doing?"He pursed his lips for a long moment before answering, "Yeah. I've been investigating this whole situation these past few weeks."As it turned out, Tamara had secretly installed hidden cameras in our apartment and planted a tiny, high-tech
