All Chapters of Unheard Promises: Chapter 1 - Chapter 8

Hazel's POVAfter looking up in confusion, Marcus Reid reached up and touched the hearing aid behind his ear."What did you just say? I didn't catch that."Every time I spoke, he never paid full attention. He knew I would patiently repeat myself. But this time, I didn't want to say it again."Nothing," I answered as calmly as I could."Go cancel the house. I already told you we're buying in Southville. It has to be in Southville."His face instantly darkened."A house isn't a shirt. You can't just swap it out. You drew the plans, and I spent months making sure the remodeling was done right. How can you suddenly say you don't want it anymore? Can you stop acting like this?"The room fell into a tense silence. Just then, the front door suddenly opened.Lauren Hale unlocked it with her fingerprint like she owned the place. The three of us stared at each other. When she realized we had been arguing, she bit her lip, her face turning bright red."Hazel, please don't blame Marcus. He has h

After I got back to our house, I started packing my things. To my surprise, Marcus came home and thought I was packing for our honeymoon."You're packing already? You're really excited. But we're going to Antarctica for our honeymoon. Why are you bringing summer clothes? Aren't you going to freeze?"I froze.A long time ago, we promised each other that after we got married, we would spend our honeymoon in Northhaven because that was where we first met.Back then, he kissed my forehead and said, "No matter how many times we come back here, the people beside us will never change."So, three days ago, I asked him to book the tickets.I looked at him and asked without thinking, "Aren't we going to Northhaven?"Marcus impatiently pulled out two plane tickets. The destination really was Antarctica. But then another ticket slipped out of his pocket. It was for the same date and the same destination. He froze for a second before awkwardly explaining, "I must've heard you wrong. I thought you w

"What?" The veins on Marcus's forehead bulged as he clenched his fists. The venue manager caught his breath before apologizing."I'm so sorry. We've had so many weddings lately that I completely forgot. But, Mr. Reid... How could you, the groom, not know?"Marcus froze. The groomsmen looked at each other awkwardly and quickly tried to smooth things over."Hazel's probably just joking with us. Hasn't she been talking about getting married for years?""Yeah. A few years ago, Hazel treated you like you were her hero. She was always by your side. I don't believe she'd really cancel the wedding.""Maybe she just overslept and is still waiting for you at home."...Marcus finally nodded. "You're right. Knowing how stubborn she is, I guess it's possible."Even though he said that to comfort himself, he couldn't shake the growing worry. On the drive home, he kept calling Hazel. She never answered. All he heard was, "The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later."

Hazel's POVA few hours before the wedding, my phone kept ringing nonstop. But I ignored every call. In the end, I even blocked all those numbers.Marcus kept sending me messages too.He asked where I was and why I still hadn't shown up.But he had no idea that I had already canceled the wedding venue.A wedding where one person wasn't valued would only become a joke.So instead of forcing it to continue, it was better for us to separate with dignity. After joining my new company, I focused completely on adapting to my new environment.A few days later, I accidentally answered a call from one of Marcus's close friends after he tried calling me from different numbers."Hazel, Marcus is almost going crazy trying to find you. Please come back. He has a high fever right now, and Elizabeth is so worried that she ended up in the hospital. If you come back, maybe you can fix things with her too."Someone else on the phone added, "Yeah, Hazel. Rick has already been arrested, and your mother's
