You may want to search for English romance novels that have straight forward plots and simple dialogue. Some of the best modern romance novels are set in contemporary times. ‘Forbidden Love Stories’ builds up to the central romance of the book around a simple classic story of two people from opposite families, but uses very direct language and does not have any complicated subplots. It is a good novel for people practicing reading fluency as it contains a good, emotional storyline.

There are lots of really wonderful romantic novels, many of them very easy to read and very emotionally resonant. So I’ve picked out a few to recommend to you as a complete newbie to the genre. The first is ‘Me Before You’ by Jojo Moyes – a wonderful, straightforward and very very moving love story. The second is ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ by Casey McQuiston – another complete debut novel and also very hilarious and a really fresh take on romantic love. The third is ‘The Kiss Quotient’ by Helen Hoang – a very light and fluffyy read and also a really unique take on romantic love.

Me might enjoy a little bit of fantasy in your books? “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern is a great, complex, but not too hard to follow novel that includes a lot of romance in the magical setting of a circus. “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman is another great choice, because it’s a humorous, heart-warming novel that includes a sweet, slow-burn romance. These books are all great novels to get new readers hooked on the romantic genre.

As someone who recommends lots of romantic books to beginners, I try to suggest light, fun, and satisfying reads. Modern, fast-paced and charming, ‘The Proposal’ by Jasmine Guillory is a great choice for a romantic book newbee. Another easy and enjoyable read by the same author is ‘The Wedding Date’. If you want something a bit more fantastical then ‘The House in the Cerulean Sea’ by TJ Klune is a utterly delightful read that combines romance with fantasy.

'You Deserve Each Other' by Sarah Hogle is a really fun, engaging read with lots of hilarious banter and explores a really relatable premise for those just starting to read romantic fiction. I have listed all of these novels out as they are all great ‘beginner’ novels for those starting to read romantic fiction and are really fun and engaging to read.

If you’ve never read a romantic novel before then you could start with one that’s easy to get into. I would recommend ‘The Rosie Project’ by Graeme Simsion for a light-hearted and heart warming story. Alternatively ‘Beach Read’ by Emily Henry is another great read that is fun, modern and full of romance and chemistry. If you want to read a classic romantic novel then ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen is a good choice although it does contain a lot of old language that may take some getting used to.

'One Day' by David Nicholls is another book that is relatively easy to get into. The story is straightforward, the characters are relatable and Nicholls is a great story teller. The ‘classic’ romantic love story ‘The Notebook’ by Nicholas Sparks is also another easy to read book that is extremely romantic, but slightly cheesey in places.

As a guide to books by romance for beginners I would recommend to start with novels that have a clear and easy to follow plot and a bunch of understandable and normal characters. ‘The Flatshare’ by Beth O’Leary is a really sweet and in-between romance with a really original premise: two people share a bed but have never met. ‘The Love Hypothesis’ by Ali Hazelwood is another great example of a light and enjoyable romance that also contains some science. It is very witty, sweet and easy to follow.

If you are a complete beginner I recommend starting with romantic novels that are easy to follow with straightforward plots and characters. ‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney is a great choice for new readers to explore realistic love stories in a straightforward yet very moving way. ‘Call Me by Your Name’ by André Aciman is another wonderful novel which explores and evokes love in a beautiful way, but it is more introspective. The two novels are perfect for beginners as they are easy to follow and a great starting point for anyone new to romantic fiction.

Which 100 books must read are best for beginners?

7 Answers2025-07-12
Pay attention to the ending. A beginner needs a satisfying payoff. There’s nothing worse than spending hours of your life on a book only to be left with a confusing, ambiguous or even bleak ending that was somehow unearned. These types of endings can be powerful for more experienced readers, but may be very frustrating for a beginner. Look for stories where the end ties up the various story lines in a way that is very clear and also very thematically resonant. The end of The Hobbit found Bilbo safely back at home. He had been changed by his experiences but was content. The end of The Martian found Mark Safely back on Earth, triumphantly and humorously. A strong and clear ending is important for new readers because it reinforces the cause-and-effect structure that is at the heart of most stories.

What is the best chemistry book fiction for beginners?

I think a really good book for someone to start to learn more about science through fiction is “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion. As a genetics professor, Don Tillman is a very logical person. He tries to develop a system to find the love of his life, but everything doesn’t go as planned. The book is very fun and heartwarming. It’s not really a chemistry book, but it does show the kind of way that scientists look at the world, and how they try to solve problems. This book is very good for someone who is starting to look into the world of science, because it shows a very logical person trying to solve problems in his everyday life in a very scientific way. ‘The Disappearing Spoon’ is another fabulous book that weaves great stories about the elements and their scientists with the hard facts. My belief is that beginners will find this an exciting and less frightening introduction to the ‘hard’ science of chemistry. Sam Kean’s clever weaving of historical events, the odd personal tales and his in-depth descriptions of the various elements mean that a great big story is constructed from seemingly dry facts. As Don Tillman recognises in ‘The Rosie Project’, scientists are just as fascinating as any fictional characters and Sam Kean has an array of characters to pull from the long list of the scientists of the elements. A Science Fiction book that centres around someone involved in Forensic Science has to be considered for this list and in this case, the main protagonist David Hunter is a forensic anthropologist which makes ‘The Chemistry of Death’ by Simon Beckett an ideal science fiction book. Although it is more centered towards the aspects of a Forensic Scientist, the detail that goes into the chemical processes of decay, could be of great interest to someone starting out in chemistry. It’s a great ‘story’ book, with plenty of suspense that keeps you gripped to the book, whilst always coming back to Chemistry within the story. This historical fiction novel is set in the 18th century. A young woman, Emilie, was brought up by her alchemist father in isolation. Her father taught her the alchemist’s craft, and after his death, she is left alone with many questions. She sets out to discover the truth about her father’s life and his work. Her journey becomes one of discovery and of the roots of chemistry. The author provides a great insight into historical science and the novels follows the main character on her journey of discovery and growth. A most enjoyable and thought provoking non-fiction book relating chemistry to real crimes is ‘Elements of Murder’ by John Emsley. This book tells the dark history of poisonous elements used throughout time for crime and assists the reader to understand the aspect of chemistry that can be important in Forensic Science and Environmental issues. This book is written in an entertaining manner making an enjoyable and enjoyable read providing a real insight into real life crime.

What are the best romance books for shy or introverted people?

7 Answers2025-09-06
I’m really opposed to this idea of shy people only needing romance to be fulfilled in fiction. I’d much rather suggest a great fantasy or sci-fi novel with a focus on really deep platonic relationships, growth, and adventure, without any romance. No pressure to feel the characters’ romantic feelings or to imagine yourself in their shoes. The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison is a great example of a really shy, kind, gentle protagonist who finds his way into a position of great power and then tries to earn respect while building a family made up of secretaries, bodyguards, and other friends. It’s a really growth-oriented story with a focus on how a decent person can navigate a difficult, cutthroat court, and I think it’s more nourishing for a quiet evening than any love story.

What are the best Malayalam sensual stories for beginners?

10 Answers2025-11-06
I found this post about ‘for beginners’ quite interesting. I could see a learning curve being explored and that would have to be approached in a particular way i.e. building a palate. I would start with some of the short stories of M. T. Vasudevan Nair. The way he conveys repressed emotion and unspoken tension in his stories is masterful. ‘Vanaprastham’ (the story and not the film) is a great example of a quiet, aching sort of sensuality which would allow the beginner to experience and learn to appreciate subtext before graduating to more obvious narratives.

What are wholesome romance books without spicy scenes?

7 Answers2025-08-22
Look for the older Harlequin category romances in the Heartwarming or Love Inspired lines. These books are written to be sweet and never to include any explicit content. Written to be shorter and more formulaic than the rest of the category books, you know just what you’re getting from authors such as Carol Ross or Anna J. Stewart. Written to be a sweet, short read that will leave you feeling good at the end, these books often have external conflict or miscommunication and then are resolved with a heartfelt declaration. Not a lot of sexy scenes in these books.

What are the best bondage games for beginners?

9 Answers2026-06-20
Your best game could be one that you play with a friend. Having someone to discuss with, to share “what the heck” moments, and to compare choices to can make an otherwise isolating experience a lot of fun. Find a story-based game to play through on stream over on Discord with a buddy, or even play through simultaneously and chat through the choices and decide together. You’d be surprised how something that could otherwise be kind of awkward to play through in private can become a fun experience with a buddy. Games with lots of branching storylines like Fetish Locator or many visual novels would work really well for this kind of gameplay. “What did you choose when Character X asked Y?” becomes a really fun conversation starter instead of something that causes tension. Gaming is social too, even in some of the more solo-based genres of games.

What are the best romantic novels Indian by new authors?

Recently finished ‘The Sialkot Saga’ by Ashwin Sanghi. Beautifully written love story amidst a historical epic. Author has done a great job of merging romance with the history of partition in a very new-school way. On the other hand, I’m stuck in Half Love by Shyam Selvadurai. The way he has written a queer romance set in the Delhi art world is beautiful. The tender and sensitive way in which he has portrayed closeted love to its utmost is breathtaking. Both these books are proof that in India, romance is no longer restricted to a bunch of saris and samosas. Both these authors are doing great work by breaking all sorts of stereotypes in these novels, page after page.

What is the best Warhammer 40k audiobook for beginners?

11 Answers2025-08-20
A good ‘intro to main lore’ book is ‘Nightbringer’ by Graham McNeill, which is the first book in the Uriel Ventris series. A classic ‘Space Marines vs. ancient evil’ type of story that inducts you to the lore of the main universe through the history of the Ultramarines, introducing you to the realms of Chaos cults and the unknown forces of xenos in the Warhammer 40k universe. A good, ‘all round’ storyline well read in an audiobook. While it’s not the most complex or groundbreaking in terms of exploring the gritty background of the universe in depth, the simple storyline showcases the heroism of the bravest super-humans in the galaxy and the unrelenting horrors they face in all out action to the very last stand. It is a great ‘out of the box’ introduction to the hero armies of the 41st millennium, a solid, ‘poster-boy’ beginners book, functional to advanced and fun to listen to.

What are the top-rated romance novels for 12-year-olds?

7 Answers2025-07-13
Use Common Sense Media’s website to review books. You can type in any book and get a detailed summary of the book including any romantic moments, language, etc. and a maturity level rating. I rely on this for many of the books I purchase for my kids as I don’t always read the reviews on Amazon as they can vary greatly. Follow librarians and teachers on social media (TikTok/BookTok has a huge ‘clean teen romance’ and ‘middle grade’ community) as they are on the front lines and know what is currently publishing and what kids are actually reading and enjoying as opposed to what is winning awards.
