If you loved the small-town Southern vibe of 'The Last Juror,' you might get a kick out of Harper Lee’s 'To Kill a Mockingbird.' It’s a classic for a reason—Atticus Finch’s quiet courage and the racial tensions in Maycomb feel just as real as Grisham’s Mississippi.

For a more modern take, 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt isn’t a legal thriller per se, but it’s got that slow-burn mystery and tight-knit community dynamic that makes 'The Last Juror' so compelling. Plus, Tartt’s prose is downright addictive.

I absolutely adore legal thrillers, and 'The Last Juror' is one of those books that sticks with you long after you turn the last page. If you're looking for something similar, you might enjoy Grisham's other works like 'A Time to Kill' or 'The Firm'—they have that same gripping courtroom drama mixed with small-town intrigue.

For something outside Grisham’s bibliography, try Scott Turow’s 'Presumed Innocent.' It’s got that perfect blend of legal maneuvering and personal stakes, with a protagonist who’s easy to root for (or suspect). Another gem is 'Defending Jacob' by William Landay, which dives into the moral dilemmas of a prosecutor whose own son is accused of murder. The way it explores family loyalty versus justice gave me chills.

I’d recommend 'The Lincoln Lawyer' by Michael Connelly. It’s got that same page-turning quality as Grisham, but with a slicker, urban edge. Mickey Haller’s hustling defense attorney vibe is a fun contrast to Grisham’s small-town lawyers.

Another underrated pick is 'The Rainmaker'—another Grisham novel, but if you haven’t read it yet, it’s a must. The way it balances a David vs. Goliath legal battle with a coming-of-age story for the young lawyer protagonist is just chef’s kiss.

For a twist on the legal thriller genre, try 'Anatomy of a Murder' by Robert Traver. It’s older but feels surprisingly fresh, with a meticulous courtroom drama that’ll satisfy any Grisham fan. The moral gray areas and psychological depth reminded me of why I fell in love with 'The Last Juror.' Also, if you don’t mind branching into true crime, 'In Cold Blood' by Capote has that same immersive, journalistic style Grisham used to make Ford County feel alive.

Where should I start reading John Grisham if I like legal thrillers?

Huh. I always thought of him as my dad’s author. Picked up 'The Reckoning' on a whim and was blown away by the historical depth and the tragic family saga. The legal stuff is almost secondary. It completely changed my perception. Maybe don’t judge the whole catalog by its most commercial covers.
