Publication order is safest. 'Uglies', 'Pretties', 'Specials', then 'Extras'. The new duology ('Impostors' and 'Mirrors') is a distant sequel series. You could read the original trilogy alone and be perfectly satisfied; the rest are optional expansions. I found 'Extras' a bit jarring at first since it switches protagonists, but it grew on me.

I grabbed the original 'Uglies' trilogy a few years back, the ones with the big, bold concepts everyone talked about. So, core order is obviously 'Uglies', then 'Pretties', and finally 'Specials'. That's the heart of Tally's story. But Westerfeld added more after that.
A lot of folks don't realize 'Extras' is technically fourth, but it's more of a spinoff set in a different city with a new main character. I'd still read it after 'Specials' because it plays with the consequences of the trilogy's ending. I found 'Impostors' and 'Mirrors'—that new duology—way later, and they're a different era. Chronologically, they happen after 'Extras', but they feel almost like a soft reboot. You could almost treat them as their own separate thing, though knowing the world history helps.

Honestly, I think the reading order depends on what you want. The pure, classic experience is the first three: 'Uglies', 'Pretties', 'Specials'. That's a complete arc. 'Extras' is a fun bonus that expands the world, but you won't miss critical plot if you skip it. Some people read it and feel like it's a bit of an afterthought.
Those newer books, 'Impostors' and 'Mirrors', are set much later. They're technically in the same universe, but they're so distant from Tally's story that they barely connect. I read them all in publication order, which felt natural—you see the author's ideas evolve over time. But if you're just after Tally, stick to the original three.

She takes them on time and time again though to protect other innocent members of her pack. Her brother and his friends ignore her existence and all she wants to do is get out of a pack that doesn't seem to want her and become an Elite Warrior for the Alpha King. Lyric had spent her life being hated. Bullied for her scarred face and hated by everyone—including her own mate—she was always told she was ugly. Her mate only kept her around to gain territory, and the moment he got what he wanted, he rejected her, leaving her broken and alone.
Then, she met him. The first man to call her beautiful. The first man to show her what it felt like to be loved.
It was only one night, but it changed everything. For Lyric, he was a saint, a savior. For him, she was the only woman that had ever made him cum in bed—a problem he had been battling for years.
Lyric thought her life would finally be different, but like everyone else in her life, he lied. And when she found out who he really was, she realized he wasn't just dangerous—he was the kind of man you don't escape from.
Lyric wanted to run. She wanted freedom. But she desired to navigate her way and take back her respect, to rise above the ashes.
Eventually, she was forced into a dark world she didn't wish to get involved with.
Elle Davidson, orphaned at 12 with limited memory, is taken in by the Alpha and Luna of the New Moon pack. There she meets Damon Ledger, the future Alpha, and her nemesis. Damon does everything he can to control Elle's life, and his friends do everything they can to make her life hell. All of that changes after Damon comes home from Alpha training, and their undeniable chemistry makes staying away from one another impossible.

Colleen Hoover's 'Ugly Love' series is a rollercoaster of emotions, and I love how it unfolds. The correct order is straightforward since it’s a standalone novel, but if you want to dive into the universe around it, I’d recommend reading 'Ugly Love' first, then exploring her other works like 'Maybe Someday' or 'November 9' for similar vibes. 'Ugly Love' itself doesn’t have a sequel, but the themes of love, heartbreak, and second chances resonate across her books. I’ve reread it twice, and each time, the raw honesty of Tate and Miles’ story hits differently. It’s one of those books that lingers in your mind long after the last page.
If you’re new to Hoover’s work, 'Ugly Love' is a great introduction. The pacing is intense, and the dual timeline keeps you hooked. Some fans argue it’s best paired with 'Confess' for its emotional depth, but honestly, 'Ugly Love' stands strong on its own. The way Hoover writes flawed characters makes them feel like real people—messy, complicated, and utterly human.
