How Are Lauraine Snelling’S Blessing Books Ordered By Timeline?
I own several Blessing series novels and novellas, but the chronological order confuses me. Is 'An Untamed Heart' the true starting point before 'A Promise for Ellie'?

The best analogy is a family Bible. The timeline order is the order of the entries in the family record section—births, marriages, deaths, and major events, recorded as they happened. The Red River books are the first entries, the old script telling of the ancestors' journey. The Blessing books are the flourishing of the family. The Daughters/Song books are the newer, neater entries about the current generations. To read the Blessing saga in timeline order is to read this fictional family's Bible from the first page of their history to the most recent.

I appreciate the folks who can list them all off. My brain doesn't work that way. I used Goodreads lists. There are several user-created lists titled 'Lauraine Snelling Blessing Series in Order.' I found one that seemed well-researched, saved it, and checked off books as I borrowed them from the library. The collective intelligence of readers on Goodreads is usually more reliable and up-to-date than any single article, especially for a long-running series with many entries and reprints.

Oh, timeline headaches with this series are real! It's not just numbered books. Think of it as a family saga that moves forward in time, but sometimes Snelling writes a book that jumps back to fill in a character's younger years. The main spine is the Blessing, North Dakota timeline starting around 1900. 'A Promise for Ellie' kicks that off. But to get the full picture of how the families got there, you should read the 'Red River of the North' series first—that's 'An Untamed Land,' 'A New Day Rising,' 'A Land to Call Home,' etc. Those are about the Bjorklunds coming to America and settling, which precedes the Blessing town stories. Then you move into the core Blessing books and their offshoots like 'Daughters of Blessing.'

Hmm. I don't know these at all. They sound like something my aunt would read. Are they all happy endings and gentle drama? That's not really my thing. I'm more into grimdark fantasy where everyone dies. But I respect a fandom that has to create spreadsheets to read the books in order. That's some serious world-building right there.

“What in Goddess’ name is going on here?” my brother’s shouting interrupted me as I was about to accept Finn as my mate.
“Come on, Finn. Tell her the whole truth. Tell her how you’ve had someone different warming your bed almost every night for the last four years, sometimes more than one!”
Finding out the boy she loved since she was 16 was also her mate was the best and worst day of Sarah’s life. Learning he’d been cheating on her was a betrayal she couldn’t forgive. She was heartbroken until fate put Zayne Davies, Beta of the Glass Lake pack, in her path.
Zayne’s love healed her broken heart and Sarah thought she’d finally found her happy ending. Until Finnick found them and proved the Moon Goddess’ plans were far more complicated.
Sarah must decide to either fight for her mate bond or run from both men. No matter what she decides, the increasing threat to the entire wolf kingdom is something none of them can escape. A realm exists where the chosen ones got their blessings from the gods. The gods would bestow their powers and grant them the permissions to rule over the world. Thus, the common people called these wonders by ‘Blessing’. However, these so-called blessings were always followed by chaos and death…
A queen who fell from her grace... She who’s buried her entire queendom and family by her own hands. She who’s travelled the world for over than hundreds of years while bearing the ‘Blessing’ on her. This queen had so many names throughout her lives, some were written in the history and the rest were still unknown.
This time, she met a young boy that’s trapped in the middle of a war, a hot-headed man, an old friend, and everything that reminded her of her past self.
Some stories are meant to be told and some people are meant to find each other across lifetimes. Kerrienne is blessed by the Gods. Her powers rival to none.
A war is brewing and in this fight against a powerful enemy, an alliance with the laird of the MacCleods, rumored to be demon touched, is her only chance.
Emrick hasn't felt human since his transformation into whatever the hell he was. yet Kerrienne can soothe the wild beast inside him with just a touch.
This isn't just a love story. This story transcends time. And when they find each other again, the survival of their world will depend on their love.
Little do they know, they're not just soulmates. Their souls have been branded by the essence of their past lives. Destined to find each other in every single one of their reincarnations.
As Kerrienne and Emrick fight for the survival of their people, will they survive to find their happily ever after? or will they need more than one lifetime?
Don't forget the 'Song of Blessing' books! They're a sub-series within the Blessing saga, set a bit later (post-WWI, I think?). So the full connection is: Dakota Series (earliest) -> Blessing Series (main sequence) -> Song of Blessing (later). They all share the setting and have character crossovers. It's a trilogy of series that make one big saga. Make sure any reading order list you find includes the 'Song of' books placed correctly in the timeline.
You know, I've never worried about the order. My grandma had a shelf full of them, and I just pulled them down at random as a kid. I met characters in the middle of their lives, then later found books about their youth. It was like piecing together a family history from old letters found in a random trunk. There's a charm to that non-linear discovery. You get a sense of these characters having full, messy lives that aren't neatly packaged in a sequence. Maybe try that? Grab 'A Dream to Follow' or 'The Healing Quilt' and just start. The connections will emerge like finding familiar faces in a crowd.
There’s a quiet beauty in starting with one of the middle 'Daughters of Blessing' books. You get a sense of a thriving, established community with a deep past you don’t fully know. It creates a feeling of stepping into a real town where everyone has history. Then, when you go back to the founding stories in 'Red River', it feels like uncovering beloved town legends. It’s a non-traditional but wonderfully immersive way to experience the world.
I stumbled into this world via 'A Land to Call Home' (Red River #3) at a used bookstore. I was confused but intrigued. I went back and read 1 and 2, and it was actually cool to see how things started after already knowing some outcomes. There's no one 'right' way.
For a visual learner, imagine a timeline. 1880s: 'Red River of the North' series starts. Early 1900s: 'Return to Red River' series is set, but also some later books of the first series stretch into this time. Then 1910s-ish: 'Daughters of Blessing' series. The lines blur. So reading in strict timeline order means constantly switching between series. It's a nightmare. Publication order keeps you in one 'time zone' of storytelling before moving to the next, even if that next zone is technically set earlier. It's about narrative flow, not calendar dates.
I've seen this debate. Purists say publication order always. I say, read the summary and pick the one that appeals to you most. Life's too short for reading lists that feel like obligations. Wingate's books are emotional experiences; choose based on which story speaks to you now.
