How Many My Hero Academia Books Are In The Main Manga Series?

As someone new to Shonen Jump comics, I lost track collecting all the My Hero Academia tankobon volumes. Can someone share the current official count?

Honestly, I stopped keeping exact count after volume 30. The story started feeling so stretched and bloated that the volume number became kind of irrelevant to me. It's clearly past what should have been its natural ending point.

I'm sure it's in the high 30s by now. The fact that it's still going strong commercially means Shueisha has no incentive to let Horikoshi wrap it up cleanly. It's a shame, because the early volumes had such tight, focused storytelling.

At this point, the number of books is more a testament to its market success than its narrative cohesion. I'd recommend reading up to volume 23 or so and then just checking the wiki summaries for the rest.

The official count is 38 books for the central storyline. In terms of accessibility, most public libraries have at least the first several volumes, and digital lending services like Hoopla often have the full series available to borrow with a library card. It's a great way to sample the series without any upfront cost.

If you like to listen while you do other things, there are YouTube channels that do full 'comic dub' readings, but they're fan-made and not a substitute for the official product. For the authentic experience, nothing beats sitting down with the book and taking in the art at your own pace.

We're at volume 38. The discussion around the series' ending has been heating up in the fan communities. Knowing that the total count is finite now makes re-reading the earlier volumes a different experience. You start to see the seeds of the endgame planted way back, which is a testament to Horikoshi's planning.

It's a series that rewards a back-to-back read. Picking up volume 1 right after catching up to 38 highlights just how far every character has come, especially Midoriya and Bakugo. Their growth is gradual and believable across that many chapters.

Wait, is this a trick question? Are you including the volume that's just side stories or the one with the movie tie-in? I think those are usually labeled as 'Volume X.Y' or something, not part of the main numbered run. The main storyline is definitely 38.

Sometimes series have 'volume 0' or 'volume 1.5' that contain canonical but supplemental material. I don't think MHA has any of those for the main series. The spin-offs are their own separate series with their own numbering.

So, yeah, stick with the whole numbers: 1, 2, 3... up to 38. Anything with a decimal or a subtitle like 'Vigilantes' is a different product. Keep it simple.

It's 38. I love how each volume has those little extra pages at the end—author notes, rough sketches, and sometimes hilarious omake comics. Those bits add a lot of personality and make you feel closer to Horikoshi's creative process. It's a nice bonus you don't get from just reading the serialized chapters online.

Collecting them is a journey in itself. I have fond memories of specific volumes because of where I was when I read them or who I discussed them with. Volume 24, for instance, broke the internet for a week with its climax. That kind of communal reading experience is special.

How many My Hero Academia manga volumes are in the main saga

Thinking about it in terms of story arcs: the USJ Arc, Sports Festival, Stain, Forest Training, Kamino, License Exam, Overhaul, Gentle Criminal, Paranormal Liberation War... all of that is in volumes 1-40. So if you consider the 'main saga' to be the collection of all major arcs, that collection is currently 40 volumes long. There is no arc that exists outside of those numbered books. So, your answer is derived from simply counting the sequentially published tankobon. That count is 40.

How many volumes are currently in the My Hero Academia book series?

Hmm. I've got up to 37 on my shelf, and I know 38 is out. So 38. The Japanese version is at 40. It's a long series, but it doesn't feel bloated to me. Most volumes advance the plot or character development in meaningful ways. Except maybe that one remedial course arc – that felt a bit like filler in volume format. But even that had its moments. Overall, the consistency across this many volumes is impressive. The fact that Horikoshi is both writing and drawing at this level for so long is insane.

How many My Hero Academia Vigilantes volumes are needed to bridge to the main series?

The connection is more about filling in the gaps in the main series' timeline than providing a direct lead-in. We see what All Might's heyday looked like from the ground, we see the early careers of several pros, and we see the development of support tech and hero regulations. All 15 volumes contribute pieces to that historical puzzle.

I'm just sitting here waiting for the box sets. They usually release them after so many volumes are out. I think the second box set went up to volume 20. Maybe we'll get a third one once the series is completely finished? That would be the most cost-effective way to catch up. Until then, the individual volume count is a moving target. I'd recommend anyone new to the series to check if a box set exists for the early arcs before buying singles. It saves a ton of shelf space and money.

The 'My Hero Academia' manga has been such a wild ride! Last I checked, there are 39 volumes out in Japan as of mid-2024, with more likely on the way since Kohei Horikoshi’s still going strong. I love how each arc feels like it builds on the last—from the early days of UA to the crazy Paranormal Liberation War stuff. The art’s evolved so much too; volume 1’s sketches feel almost nostalgic compared to the detailed chaos of recent fights. If you’re collecting physically, the English releases by Viz Media are almost caught up, just a few volumes behind. And hey, if you’re new to it, the spin-offs like 'Vigilantes' are totally worth it while you wait for new chapters. Horikoshi’s pacing is brutal in the best way—I’m always left craving the next volume.

How many My Hero Academia volumes are there in total now?

The Japanese tankobon release has reached volume 40. For English readers, Viz Media is the publisher, and they're currently at volume 38. The series is a behemoth, both in page count and cultural impact. Each volume is a solid read, usually covering a mini-arc or a major battle. I've found that the emotional payoffs land better when you read an entire volume in one sitting, rather than piecemeal week-by-week. The translation is generally good, though some character quirks are inevitably softened. For someone new, I'd recommend sampling the first volume digitally from a library service before committing to buying the whole set. The story's length is a feature, not a bug—it allows for deep world-building and a large cast of characters to get their moments.
