Wait, is everyone just skipping the web novel? The original web novel is complete and free to read if you know where to look (just search for the Japanese title). The published light novels are a polished and expanded version of that. So technically, the 'true' chronological order of creation is Web Novel -> Light Novel -> Manga -> Anime.
Most people shouldn't start with the rough web novel draft unless they're super curious about the author's early ideas. The light novel is the definitive version. My advice? If you loved the anime, grab the light novels from the start. The adaptation was great, but there's a richer texture to the politics and Anis's insecurities in the text. The order is linear and straightforward—Vol 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... no side stories or prequels to juggle. Just follow the numbers on the spine.

I actually went manga-first with this series. The art is stunning, especially for the magical gear and Euphyllia's expressions. The reading order gets simpler if you take that route: just read the manga volumes in order. It's a very direct adaptation of the light novels, condensing some political bits but capturing the core relationship beats perfectly.
It does lag behind the source material, though. So if you binge the available manga and get that 'I need MORE' feeling, you'll have to switch over to the light novels. I'd say start from LN Volume 1 even if you've read the manga, because there are cute little details and extra scenes, like more of Anis's disastrous but enthusiastic workshop experiments, that didn't make the cut. The tone feels a tad different; the novels let you sit in Anis's chaotic headspace more.

Yeah, this one's a bit of a classic 'where do I start?' scenario because of the light novel, manga, and anime adaptations all floating around. The core source is the light novel series, and that's the order you want to follow for the full, detailed story. Start with 'The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady' Volume 1. The anime covers the first three novels pretty faithfully, but the books have more internal monologue and world-building that really flesh out Anisphia's frantic genius and Euphyllia's gradual thaw.
After the anime's finale, you'd continue with Light Novel Volume 4 and onwards. The manga is a fantastic adaptation too, but it's still ongoing and hasn't caught up to where the anime ended last I checked. So if you're coming from the anime and want more, jumping to LN Volume 4 is your move. Honestly, the light novels are where you see the author's craft most clearly—the magic system notes Anis makes in the margins alone are worth the read.

Light novel order, volumes 1 through whatever's latest. The anime ends around volume 3. That's the whole sequence. The manga's nice but slower. Stick with the novels for the complete story.

The day my elder sister stole my fiancé from me, I did not fight back.
Instead, I slipped past the maid guarding me and went straight to find my father.
“She can have my fiancé. I’m marrying the Regent!”
My father stared at me in shock.
Everyone knew the Regent was in charge, but rumors said he could not father a child and had a nasty temper.
What they did not know was that I was born under heaven’s favor—blessed with the gift of life itself.
In my previous life, that blessing became my curse. My elder sister and stepmother smeared my name, claiming that my curves and easy fortune meant I had been defiled before marriage.
My fiancé was disgusted and turned away from me. That was when my sister seized the chance to take my place.
Even on her wedding day, my sister was not at ease. She had me dragged away like a lowly servant and sent to a brothel, ordering the madam to torture me.
While I lay dying in the dark, she lived in the light, bearing children with my former fiancé and enjoying a lifetime of happiness that should have been mine.
Now that I had been given another life, I refused to bow to fate again.
She might have stolen my fiancé, but she could never take the blessing I was born with.
“I was reborn to prevent my death. Another purpose of my reborn is to destroy the enemy. I will surely devastate those all who threaten my kingdom.”
Queenie’s body had just been thrown over the abyss. Her body was facing upwards. She can see her future husband’s face. The man smiled happily at seeing Queenie picking up death! Queenie closed her eyes. She gave up. Her life was over!
But destiny is always the winner instead of a human plan….
When Queenie opened her eyes, she was still in her own body. She woke up in her second life. That was two years ago. When her father, king Darian of the Bright River kingdom, betrothed her to Prince Fabian of the Nicundhra Kingdom.
The matchmaking was the beginning of the disaster. Queenie’s stepmother fell in love with Prince Fabian. They conspire to kill King Darian and his only daughter, Queenie. Prince Fabian was obsessed with ascending the throne.
But a miracle happened. Queenie got a second life. It was a chance for her to prevent the death of her father and herself. The great war of various kingdoms exploded. Queenie would fight against multiple monsters for the sake of her father, empire, and people.
The spoiled princess had returned. She was reborn as Queenie the Princess Warrior. Can Queenie take her second chance to change the future? The Second Life Of The Princess Knight!
Why not just follow release order? Web novel came first, then the light novel re-write, then the manga adaptation. That's the 'correct' historical order. You'll see how the author's ideas evolved, which is cool from a creative process standpoint.
But is it the most fun? Probably not. The web novel can be a slog. If your goal is fun, flip it: enjoy the slickest product (manga) first, then appreciate the source material (LN), then geek out on the origins (WN). Both approaches are valid, just for different types of fans.
Figuring out where to start with 'The Reincarnation Magician of the Inferior Eyes' can feel a bit like hitting a wall at first because of the sheer number of installments, but once you map it out, it flows pretty logically. The main spine of the story follows the web novel series originally posted on Shousetsuka ni Narou. The author, Mikawa Yoh, first developed it there before it got picked up for a light novel adaptation with illustrations. If you want the most complete, author-driven version of the tale, beginning with the web novel is your foundational move. It’s the raw, lengthy narrative that spawned everything else.
From there, the most common and accessible route is through the official light novel releases, published under the Dengeki Bunko imprint. These are the polished volumes you’ll find in bookstores and digitally. The reading order is straightforwardly numerical: start with Volume 1, 'The Reincarnation Magician of the Inferior Eyes: The White Dove of the Academy,' and just continue upward. The light novels adapt and refine the web novel content, so sticking to them gives you a cohesive, edited experience. There’s also a manga adaptation that runs parallel, but it naturally follows the light novel’s plot progression, so you can read it alongside or after as a visual companion.
Where it gets a little tricky is with the various side stories and sequel series that pop up. After the main story reaches a certain point, the author began publishing 'The Reincarnation Magician of the Inferior Eyes: Recollections' and other auxiliary chapters that flesh out backstories or alternate viewpoints. These are best tackled after you’re already several volumes into the main series, as they assume familiarity with the characters and world. I’d recommend getting at least through the first five or six light novel volumes before branching out into those supplemental materials to avoid any spoilers or confusion.
The series is still ongoing, so the order is essentially a straight line with some optional detours. My own approach was to binge the available light novels first to get the core story locked in, then circle back to the web novel for the extra depth and to see where the author’s taking the story next. It’s a satisfying way to consume it, and you never feel like you’re missing a critical piece. The latest light novel volume I picked up ended on a cliffhanger that’s got me checking for updates weekly.
