If you're starting out, Literotica’s still the classic for a reason. The tagging system is actually pretty decent once you get the hang of it, and the sheer volume means you can stumble onto some real, weirdly specific gems if you're willing to sift. The forums can point you to niche sub-genres too.
I'd also suggest checking out the 'Free Stories' sections on author websites. A lot of indie romance and erotica writers, especially those publishing on Amazon, will post free shorts or deleted scenes as reader magnets. Found one of my favorite monster romance writers that way—her website had a prequel short that wasn't anywhere else.

Archive of Our Own (AO3) is my absolute top pick. You have to use the filters effectively—sort by kudos, exclude crossovers, maybe limit word count for shorts. But the diversity of settings is insane: historical AUs, fantasy world-building, modern coffee shop AUs, you name it. The tagging is so granular you can find exactly the dynamic and heat level you want. The quality varies wildly, obviously, but some writers there are publishing professional-level work for free.

StoriesOnline.net has a ton of free content, though a lot of it is serialized novel-length stuff. You can filter for short stories. The settings are pretty diverse, from sci-fi to taboo family stuff. The search function is basic, but browsing by category works okay.

Honestly? I bounce between a few. Literotica feels a bit dated interface-wise, but some categories are unmatched. Nifty Archive has a huge, organized collection, especially for gay erotica. Then I'll lurk on specific subreddits like r/eroticauthors or r/DarkRomance—writers sometimes drop free links or samples there, which can lead you to their personal blogs or sites like Quotev. It’s more of a scattergun approach, but I’ve found some fantastic, offbeat short stories in places I’d never have looked otherwise.

Reddit's romance communities are surprisingly full of gems if you dig around. The GoneWildAudio subreddit is an unexpected favorite for script-style stories, and a lot of the writers there link to their personal blogs or static sites where they host their written versions. It’s a very specific vibe, though, heavy on the audio side of things, but the scripts themselves read like punchy, dialogue-driven shorts. Finding consistent quality is the real challenge, but when you find a writer whose style clicks, it feels like stumbling onto a secret stash.
Outside of Reddit, I’ve had some luck with sites like Literotica, which is a classic but can feel a bit dated and the tagging system is hit or miss. For more diverse and modern themes, I’ve followed authors from there to their Tumblr pages. Tumblr’s never really died for that kind of micro-fiction and themed kinktober collections, you just have to know which tags to search. The community feeling is stronger there, with a lot of reblog chains and writer interactions.
