Getting the characters to sound right is the biggest hurdle. I reread scenes where they have intense dialogues—not just the big dramatic moments, but the quiet ones in between where their personality really leaks through. For someone like Free Man Writer from 'The King's Avatar', it's all about that mix of calm confidence and dry, almost deadpan humor. He's not showy. I'll jot down phrases he uses a lot, the way he undercuts tension with a simple observation. Then I try writing a mundane interaction, like him ordering takeout while explaining a game strategy, just to see if the rhythm feels right before tackling a full scene.
Another thing that helped was reading fan translations of the original webnovel, not just the official stuff or the donghua. The phrasing is slightly different, and you catch more of his internal monologue's texture. Sometimes I'll even listen to the audio drama while doing chores, letting the voice actor's delivery soak in. It's less about copying lines and more about absorbing the pace at which he thinks and speaks.

Listen to the audio versions. Seriously. Reading the text gives you the words, but hearing them delivered—the pauses, the slight exasperation, the rare warmth—shows you the music behind the dialogue. Then try mimicking that rhythm in a short, low-stakes scene before you write anything epic. It builds muscle memory for how he talks.

Honestly? I think people stress way too much about 'authenticity' right out of the gate. If you wait until you've perfectly captured the voice, you'll never start. My first few fics for him were probably OOC as hell, but writing them was how I figured out what didn't work. I had him cracking too many jokes at first—turned him into a sarcastic meme instead of the quietly relentless type he is.
Pick a missing moment from canon, something small. How did he react when his old team fell apart? Write that private moment, not for an audience, just to explore. You'll fumble, but you'll also stumble onto something that clicks. The voice comes from understanding his history, his quiet pride, and his sheer focus. Don't get bogged down in making every line perfect from draft one.

*****
The Manhood Diaries is an unfiltered secret collection of male confessions: raw, intense, and deeply personal. Told through the voices of different men, each story peels back the layers of masculinity to reveal desire, vulnerability, power, and hidden truths rarely spoken aloud.
Through their experiences, the book explores manhood from within: the struggles, the secrets, the passions, and the contradictions.
Bold and unapologetic, it offers a gripping look into the private worlds men live but seldom share.
I've developed a fever all of a sudden. But that's when I hear the thoughts belonging to my Alpha mate, Alder Garrison, whom I've bonded to for five years.
His voice is husky and attractive, and yet the tone he adapts is very unfamiliar to me.
[She's pulling the pity card again. How annoying.]
My breath hitches in my chest as I look up at Alder. He's in the middle of pouring me a glass of water, his gaze seemingly gentle beneath the light.
His lips aren't moving at all, and yet I'm very sure that I heard his voice just now.
When Alder helps me to sit up so that he can feed me the medicine, I purse my lips together before speaking up, albeit hesitantly.
"Alpha Alder, I think I'm hearing things all of a sudden. Can you please accompany me to a healer's station tomorrow?"
Alder is quick to envelope me into a hug and comfort me. "Shh… I'm here. You'll be fine."
But his thoughts sing an entirely different tune.
[Ugh… She's doing it again. Can she stop pestering me already?]
I no longer utter another word. All I feel is my heart slowly going cold in despair.
She looked at her with contempt, her red heels clicking on the ground. A sinister smile is plastered on her face full of malice.
"Whatever you do, he's mine. Even if you go back in time, he's always be mine."
Then the man beside the woman with red heels, snaked his hands on her waist.
"You'll never be my partner. You're a trash!"
The pair walked out of that dark alley and left her coughing blood. At the last seconds of her life, her lifeless eyes closed.

Jade angrily looked at the last page of the book.
She believed that everyone deserves to be happy.
She heard her mother calling for her to eat but reading is her first priority. And so, until she felt dizzy reading, she fell asleep.
***
Words she can't comprehend rang in her ears.
She's now the 'Heather' in the book.
[No, I won't change the story. I'll just watch on the sidelines.]
This is what she believed not until...
"Stop slandering Heather unless you want to lose your necks."
That was the beginning of her new life as a character.

"Are you still afraid of me Medusa?" His deep voice send shivers down my spine like always. He's too close for me to ignore. Why is he doing this? He's not supposed to act this way. What the hell?
Better to be straight forward Med! I gulped down the lump formed in my throat and spoke with my stern voice trying to be confident.
"Yes, I'm scared of you, more than you can even imagine." All my confidence faded away within an instant as his soft chuckle replaced the silence.
Jerking me forward into his arms he leaned forward to whisper into my ear.
"I will kiss you, hug you and bang you so hard that you will only remember my name to sa-, moan. You will see me around a lot baby, get ready your therapy session to get rid off your fear starts now." He whispered in his deep husky voice and winked before leaving me alone dumbfounded.
Is this how your death flirts with you to Fuck your life!? There's only one thing running through my mind. Lifting my head up in a swift motion and glaring at the sky, I yelled with all my strength.
"FUC* YOU AUTHOR!"

What if you wished for transmigating into a Novel just for fun, and it turns out to be true. You transimigated but as a Villaness who died in the end. A death which is lonely, despicable and pathetic.
Join the journey of Kiara who Mistakenly transmigates into a Novel. Will she succeed in surviving or will she die as per her fate in the book.
This story is a pure fiction and is based on my own imagination.

I woke up inside a novel, and not even as an important character.
I became a pretty background extra in a smut novel.
My brother, however, was the only normal person in the entire story.
His character setting was the one man the soft, delicate heroine could never win over.
He was the cold, unattainable Prince Charming she could never conquer.
When the heroine cried and confessed her love, he was studying.
When she offered him her whole heart and body, he was busy starting a company.
When she spiraled into scandals and nightlife, he was already a billionaire, calm and untouchable.
I thought he would live a quiet, ascetic life forever.
Until one night, I walked in on him at midnight…
holding a piece of clothing I recognized all too well, murmuring a name over and over, a name so familiar that my scalp tingled.
Back in the day I would've said just comb through Archive of Our Own's extensive tags, but honestly? That's become a bit of a needle-in-haystack situation for truly original plots. The tag system is incredible, but 'Alternate Universe' now covers everything from coffee shop AUs to full-scale magic system rewrites, so you have to dig.
My method now is to filter for 'Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence' first, then sort by kudos or bookmarks from the last year. That tends to surface writers who are putting serious worldbuilding effort into their 'what ifs' rather than just fluff. I also check the collections those fics are in—curators often group similar thematic ambition.
A lot of the most surprising stuff I've found lately comes from fandom events like 'Big Bangs' where writers have longer word count minimums. Those often force more intricate plotting. AO3's search exclusion is your friend; filter out the 'No Archive Warnings Apply' and 'Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings' tags together to sometimes find grittier, less conventional stories that aren't playing it safe.
The real trick is patience. Sifting through twenty fics of varying quality to find one with a genuinely fresh premise is just part of the process, and honestly, that one find makes the whole search worth it.
