The relationship dynamics of this series also kind of reminded me of That Prince Is A Girl: The Vicious King's Captive Slave Mate. The central couple in that series were also in a situation with a power imbalance. The male lead started out as the worst kind of captor but the story transitioned from there to his relationship with the female lead after they had worked through the hatred and animosity of his initial behavior. It’s a very specific kind of drama and I think it works for people who like that kind of journey.

This is just the perfect happy ending to the story of these two men. Their final union is so well deserved after all of the Prince’s hard work and the King’s emotional vulnerability. A particularly triumphant moment for the two of them was when they stood together publicly and defied their enemies. The Prince’s quiet victories to earn the respect of the Court and then to rule are also wonderful. I have finished reading the novel “That Prince Is a Girl: The Vicious King’s Slave Mate”. The protagonist had been forced into a terrible situation and through her strong determination and cleverness, she was slowly able to gain respect and ultimately freedom. The once vicious king too, underwent growth and slowly matured into a true and loving partner for the protagonist. I thought their story was nicely wrapped up with them both finally gaining their freedom and being able to live happily ever after.

The secondary characters are wrapped up nicely too – the main allies of the heroine are properly rewarded for their support and the antagonists get the justice they deserve – some of it even being rather poetic. All of the main plot points are brought to a close in a reasonable and unreeling fashion, bringing lots of closure to the various relationships in the story. The final chapters bring lots of emotional payoff to the various story lines and though much of the journey is dark, there is plenty of hope at the end to satisfy fans of redemption and power reversals.

This story is about to get all cathartic and to take down a whole system of abuse and cruelty. After being a slave, the girl prince will finally reach equal status with her love interest in a very believable way, culminating in a big showdown where the girl slave outwits the king’s strongest enforcers. To its credit, this story has taken a long route to forgiveness, and the king’s remorse is very raw. Also, the supporting characters in the story, including the rebel-rophes.catalogues, all get their story wrapped up as well. The epilogue shows a nice balance of a reformed kingdom with the protagonist’s return to her former life of happiness.

There is great happiness in this story's ending. There is much contrast to the other end of the story. The ending of the first chapter was dark, oppressive and despairing. The ending of the story is bright, free and full of mutual affection. That is the substance of the story's arc.

Throughout the novel the author leads his readers through the darkest of valleys and in the end leads them to a beautiful sunny meadow where they can experience the joy of his/her main characters. If the novel had started at a happier time then the ending would not have the same impact as it does. Just finished the book and it's a happy ending. I read it all in about a month because I just couldn't put it down. The last twenty or so chapters are very nice and slowly take down all of the barriers (internal and external) that had been erected between the two main characters. My favorite part is when the king finally recognizes the heroine as his equal and declares her his consort in front of the whole kingdom. It's very cathartic.

Supporting characters also get to shine here and it was so nice to see how everyone in the “found family” grows and gets to celebrate with the main couple. So many happy moments and they all leave you smiling and feeling content after reading the story. Just what I needed after an emotional rollercoaster of a read.

The characters are older, wiser, and damaged (physically and emotionally) in ways that are apparent. The ending was so releifful after all of the torture, the slavery and all of the royal games that they played. The prince's true identity was revealed to the rest of the kingdom in a dignified way, not some spectacle. The way that the 'slave' dynamic of the two leads was completely dissolved in their partnership was the real happy ending to the story, beyond the prince's regaining of his crown.

From there they build each other up and work together to form a new whole, with each of them being utilized for their individual strengths. The conflict at the end is a bit rushed but it does give the proper emotional closure for the two of them. If you consider happy to be together, in love and safe from any external threats then yes, it was happy in the end.
