I wave at them as I continue to do the accounting. “All good in the kitchen,” Jericho said as he walk out of the kitchen. He walked straight to the fridge and got two bottles of beer. He sat on the stool in front of me as he offered me the other bottle. “So what’s your plan for the tournament?” Jericho asks me as I finished my accounting and set the book aside. “I haven’t thought about it yet,” I admitted as I drank the bottle of beer that he gave me. I don’t know if it was because of my unsettled mind or if it was because I am just thirsty that I almost finish the whole bottle in one go.

It wasn't as if they had a peaceful moment to figure everything out. As Wes neared his car outside of the sheriff's department, a dark blue Oldsmobile pulled up beside him, blocking his way to his car. Jericho was in first grade which surprised the girls because first graders didn’t like slumming with their juniors.

I had no right to ask him for favors or demand he fix the world’s problems. Jeremiah looked up from his screen. He caught my reflection in the window. He could clearly see the frown on my face and the way my jaw was set. He didn't ask me what was wrong. Instead, he went back to the only thing he knew how to talk about. “I need one of you to come with me to Linville next Wednesday,” Jeremiah said. “It is a business trip at a mountain resort. We need to finalize the contract there.” I didn't even hesitate. After the disaster of this lunch, the thought of being trapped at a resort with him and his business partners made my stomach turn.

I snarled, my fist clenched tight as I imagined punching into his mouth and knocking out all his teeth. “A simple lunch,” he said, casually. But there was nothing simple about Jericho. “At my estate. Just me and your little amore. If she shows up tomorrow by noon, I’ll let the girl go. No harm done. But if she doesn’t… well,” he exhaled dramatically, “children are fragile little things, aren’t they?” “You son of a—” I started, but the line clicked dead. I stood frozen. My heart thundered in my chest as I felt Jessica's hand on my shoulder.

Jericho apologizes, and he is the one who initiates to tell the story of what happened yesterday. Jazmine and everyone laugh about that embarrassing moment. Then, Jazmine teasingly asks me how big it is, and I gesture my fingers to show her that it's tiny. He frowned deeply. “What is it?” he asked with a deep angry voice. Jericho flinched at the sound of his voice. “Alph...Alpha,” he stuttered and his hands inadvertently went to his hair. “What is it?” he asked again. “Nothing... I was just... Going to check on Olive,” Jericho answered and stood upright. Wayne raised a thick brow at him. “Why?” he asked. Jericho pinned his lips together. Why was his Alpha looking so agitated today? Was it as a result of his fight with Lord Lina?
