“Pull over just up here,” Kieran directed, pointing to a spot that seemed shrouded by trees. “There is a path that’ll go directly over the border to the west. The hardest part will be drawing away the guard patrol.”
Jax did as requested and slowly parked the car where Kieran indicated.
“Thank you again...,” I said, finding it a little hard to keep my voice sounding neutral. I could feel so many emotions welling up inside me, but I wasn’t sure if it was fear, frustration or gratitude that was strongest right now.
Kieran got out of the car to let me out, and I quickly ran to Clarissa’s side, doing my best to slide her onto my back. It was incredibly awkward given her lack of consciousness.
“Give her to me,” Kieran said. “It’ll be faster if I carry her.”
A comment that made me stop, staring at him in confusion.
“What do you mean...?” I asked.
“Well, we’ll get across the border faster if I carry her instead,” he reiterated. “You look like you haven’t even slept, Rae.”
