The wine glass sat untouched on the table, the liquid inside still full.
Haley hadn’t taken a single sip.
Instead, she suddenly rushed downstairs. She was in such a hurry that she nearly collided with Zac, who was carrying a tray up the stairs.
She looked like she was being chased by a ghost.
“Whoa! Sis, where are you running off to this late at night?” Zac quickly stepped aside, afraid she would knock into him and send everything flying.
The wedding preparations were already in full swing, and both families had met. Even though Zac inwardly resisted calling Haley “sis”—since she was younger than him—he still did it for the sake of keeping the peace with his wife.
But Haley ignored his question.
Without even glancing back, she ran straight to the front door.
She yanked open a drawer by the shoe cabinet, grabbed a random set of car keys without looking, and bolted out the door.
