Heart ache

My heart stopped.
For a moment, I forgot the pain in my skin, the rage inside my chest, even the tears still fresh on my cheeks.
“What do you mean she's not breathing?” I asked, the words sharp and urgent, slicing through the quiet like a dagger.
The servant, barely older than sixteen, trembled as she repeated herself. “We… w-we just found her on the floor in her quarters. She wasn’t responding. The doctor’s with her now but… but she wasn’t breathing when we got there… they needed more help that's why I came here to get the doctors.”
I flung the covers off, not caring how the movement set fire to every inch of my damaged body.
“Sky, no…wait, you can’t..” Elsie tried to hold me down.
“I have to,” I snapped, forcing myself upright. The world swayed. My legs wobbled. The hospital gown clung to the bandages on my back. I felt like I was dragging broken pieces of myself off the bed, but I didn’t care.
“I need to see her. I need to…”
“Then I’m coming with you,
