Lexie’s POV
I sat there typing away, desperately trying to keep my mind off the inevitable. One thing I had learned in life was to keep busy when unpleasant thoughts threatened to take over. Whenever something bad or disturbing crept into my mind, I would throw myself into anything else just to avoid thinking about it. I really needed the distraction - anything to stop obsessing over the fact that Patrick was going to leave me.
He vanished like smoke in the wind, and I was convinced he was planning to break up with me. But he would have to show his face to do it, even if it was just through a letter. Sooner or later, he would have to reach out. Like they say, there's no point counting your chickens before they hatch. So instead of suffering ahead of time, I buried myself in work. The day crawled by, though not nearly as fast as I would've liked.
