The Syndicate launched a rapid and vicious counterattack. Syndicate drones blasted suspected safe homes just a week after the rebels' audacious invasion, and its enforcers apprehended everyone thought to be supporting the rebellion. Families were split apart and villages destroyed. The Syndicate intended to make it very obvious that disobedience would not be accepted.
The rebel network was pushed to the limit in the midst of this pandemonium. Morale was dropping, supplies were running low, and trust—which was already brittle—was starting to break under the pressure of betrayal.
