He was preoccupied with his own thoughts, and she had to choose something with a familiar name on the menu.
Their waitress arrived, and they finally placed their orders. Once they were alone again, Emily decided it was time to initiate a conversation. Her companion didn't seem like the type to start one.
"What have you been working on?" Emily inquired.
Garrett glanced at her and shrugged. "This and that," he replied.
"And what does 'this and that' entail?"
"You shouldn't concern yourself with matters like that, so don't worry," he told her.
"I want to know what's happening within the pack. You appear worried, and Nate has been working tirelessly. Davies too," Emily said. "So something must be going on that concerns everyone, directly or indirectly. So why don't you just tell me what it is?"
Garrett looked away briefly before returning his gaze to her. "You should be concerned about the well-being of the pack, not what I am working on."
"Because you don't trust me enough to tell me?"
