Just minutes after Sebastian stormed out of the room, the door opened again, but this time it wasn’t him, fortunately.
A man in a suit stepped inside, holding a leather briefcase that screamed business. My lawyer. I sat up straighter, wiping my clammy hands on my blanket as he approached me with a calm, professional expression.
He handed me the stack of papers without saying much, just a polite nod as if he knew words weren’t necessary. My eyes landed on the white divorce agreement in my lap, and for a moment, I just stared at it.
My chest felt tight and it hurt. It felt like I was ending an important part of my life but beneath all of that, there was something else. Determination. This was it.
