I tossed from side to side on my bed. I pulled the blankets over my head in a bid to cover my ears from the irritating noise. I could still hear it faintly. My eyelids fluttered open, and my hands reached around until I turned on the bedside lamp on the mahogany side table next to my bed frame. The room was neatly arranged and painted purple. It was my favourite colour. I trained my ears to check for the source of the noise. I saw it coming from the large window in my room.
I reluctantly got to my feet, dragging my tired legs clad in oversized pyjamas. I opened the window, waiting to yell at whoever was disturbing my sleep, not giving a second thought to the fact that it could be a dangerous person. “What do you w-”
“It is freezing out here, Iris! I have been knocking for hours.”
“Pfft!” I scrunched up my nose, “Couldn’t have been for more than two minutes. I’d know because you woke me up immediately.”
She frowned, “Can I come in now?”
I opened the window all the way up and moved
