Falling For My Stepbrother On Ice

Falling For My Stepbrother On Ice

Dona McNair thought her biggest problem was figuring out how to talk to August (Augie) Reynolds, the dreamy new hockey captain she’s been crushing on from a distance. But that all changes the day she finds out he’s her stepbrother. Now trapped in a tangled family mess with a boy who barely looks her way, Dona’s quiet life suddenly feels like a crazy soap opera. Augie has a lot of secrets, and so does his father. The more Dona learns, the deeper she falls for him and for the truth. Between rivalries on the ice, forbidden romance and a criminal past that won’t stay buried, Dona and Augie are forced to choose: walk away or fight side by side. Forbidden love was never part of the plan, but neither was falling for your stepbrother while exposing his father’s crimes.

Chapter: 012
Dona's POV I pushed my laptop away once Piper left three hours later. We had actually gotten a lot done on our Psychology of Gender project, but my brain wasn’t on the textbook anymore. Not with the image of August yanking me behind a wall earlier today replaying in my head. And worse was the sight of his dad with that Chicago guy, looking as though they wanted to beat themselves up Piper’s words reverberated in my head too: warn your mom. So now, with the house quieter than it had been all day, I found myself standing in front of my mom’s bedroom door and hesitating. Finally I knocked softly. “Come in!” Her voice floated out. I stepped inside and paused in surprise. Mom sat at her vanity, leaning close to the mirror as she dusted blush over her cheeks. Her blonde hair was curled neatly over her shoulders, and the soft scent of her perfume wrapped around the room. She was glamming up, for Peter, I was very sure. I heard water running in the bathroom and clenched my fists at m

Dona’s POVPost-hangout with August found me hiding in my room and reminiscing on what I'd witnessed that day, when I heard a knock on my door.“Dona?” Piper’s voice carried through the wood, followed by the sound of it creaking open before I even had the chance to answer. That was Piper for you: permission was optional. She walked in with her bag slung across her shoulder, curls bouncing as she shut the door behind her. But her face wasn’t its usual chipper self. No, she was frowning, eyebrows pulled tight like she’d just walked in on something criminal.“Okay,” she started with her hands on her hips. “Why is the hockey captain sitting in your living room?”I blinked at her from my bed. Oh. Right, that.I sat up, rubbing the side of my head. The last two days had been a hurricane—finding out I had a stepdad-to-be, finding out I had a stepbrother-to-be, following August to the rink, seeing his dad with some shady Chicago guy. I hadn’t had a second to update Piper on… well, everything.

Chapter: 010
August's POV The spare bedroom that I occupied in this new house was way smaller than my bedroom in Chicago, and even the hotel I stayed in for a month after arriving in Florida. But in a matter of two days since I moved in, I had managed to transform the room, even a tad bit. I was stretched across my bed the next morning, scrolling half-heartedly through my phone, when a knock came at my door. I didn’t answer fast enough because it opened anyway. Dona appeared at the door, drowning in a hoodie so oversized it looked like she stole it off a linebacker. Her legs were bare underneath, and for one reckless second my brain stalled. I cleared my throat and dragged my eyes away. Stepsister. Focus. “What do you want?” I muttered, shoving my phone aside. She crossed her arms. “My mom said we’re supposed to ‘do something fun together’ today, remember? Her exact words. So… congratulations, you’re stuck with me today.” I groaned, pulling a pillow over my face. “You’ve got to be kidding!”

Chapter: 009
Dona's POV I sat on the cold bleachers with my hoodie pulled tight around me, trying to block out the noise of skates cutting into ice. August was out there with his team and I was pretending not to watch him too closely. My phone was in my lap, but I wasn’t scrolling. The screen was black. My ears caught everything, though, and that’s when I heard it. “Florida State’s team is a joke,” a voice came behind me, dripping arrogance. “No way Reynolds can carry them. The guy thinks he’s hot shit ‘cause he transferred from Chicago.” I turned my head and saw a cluster of tall guys in matching jackets, sitting behind me on the bleachers. Keiser University, embroidered in ugly gold letters. And right in the center was Everett Whyte, the captain himself, with blond hair and a perfect posture, like he thought he was a walking ad for hockey. I rolled my eyes but stayed quiet, hoping they’d leave. They didn’t. “Honestly,” Everett went on, “if this is the competition we’re up against this seaso

Chapter: 008
Dona’s POV By the time I stepped into campus, the whispers had already started. I could feel them brushing against my ears, floating just out of reach, but clear enough that I knew what it was about. August. Me. Us pulling up together. I hated it. “Donaaa!” came a female's voice from behind me. I turned around and saw a girl named Kimberly. She popped up right in front of me, too close, clutching her binder like she couldn’t wait to spill something stupid. “Sooo, tell me, what’s it like riding with August?” I frowned at her, deadpan. “It’s like riding in a car. Shocking, right?” But she only grinned wider. “No, come on. Everyone saw you two. You didn’t look miserable. So, is he, like… your boyfriend or something?” I almost gagged. “Boyfriend?” “Yeah, or at least, are you guys talking? Because people don’t just carpool with August. He doesn’t even give rides to his own teammates half the time. But you…” She studied me like I was suddenly exotic. “You must be special.” I sla

Dona's POV I woke up the next morning with my head pounding from lack of sleep, and the first thing I heard was August stomping around the house. Heavy steps, doors shutting, his voice on the phone, his feet pounding on the stairs. Great. The day hadn’t even started and I was already irritated. I buried my face in the pillow, hoping maybe if I ignored the noise long enough, he’d vanish. No such luck. My alarm buzzed five minutes later, dragging me out of bed. By the time I got to the bathroom, I’d already decided on one thing: I wasn’t dealing with him. I took my sweet time showering, brushing my teeth and tying my hair back, all while pretending the boy downstairs didn’t exist. It was a good plan. Simple. Stay out of his way. Except my mom ruined it the second I walked into the kitchen. “There you are!” She chirped, dropping toast on a plate for me. “You’ll be riding to school with August today.” I stared at her like she'd developed a horn. “What?” My mom gave me a shrug. “I

Chapter: 012
Raven’s POV The dream made no sense. I was running, my feet sinking into the mud every step I took. The sky above me was red, but there was no sun, no moon, no stars. Just endless red, like the heavens had been set on fire. A voice whispered my name. I gasped and turned, but there was no one. Only shadows stretching across the ground, shifting, twisting, reaching for me. Then I heard crying, and the voice sounded like Yara's. I tried to run toward the sound, but the ground cracked under me. I fell, my body sinking into darkness. Cold hands grabbed at my arms, my legs, pulling me under.... I gasped awake. My heart was kicking against my ribs as I sat up. It took a second to remember where I was. The carriage. The wedding. The journey to Night Howler’s Pack. But something was wrong. We weren’t moving. The carriage was too silent, and when I looked around, I realized I was alone. I reached for my dagger without thinking. Had we been attacked or robbed? Holding the weapon tigh

Yara’s POV The sound of Raven's wedding drums filled the air. I pressed my hands over my ears, but it didn’t help. The wedding was happening. The words were being spoken. The bond was being sealed. Raven was becoming Jaxon’s wife. My betrothed and my sister. Tears slid down my cheeks as I curled up on the bed. I had imagined this moment so differently. I was supposed to be the one standing beside him. I was supposed to be the one dressed in white, looking into his eyes as he called me his forever mate. But she had taken everything. The door opened behind me, but I didn’t move to check who it was. “Enough crying,” my father’s voice rang out. “Get up.” I wiped my face and slowly turned to him. My father stood in the doorway, arms folded, his eyes filled with impatience. “You need to start preparing,” he announced to me. “As soon as Raven and Jaxon leave, you will be on your way to Stormgate.” “What?” “You heard me.” I scrambled to my feet. “Father, I... I need time. I cannot

Raven’s POV I tried. Every time I saw Yara, I tried to speak to her and tried to make her understand that I never meant for any of this to happen. But she refused to listen. The first time, she walked past me without a word. The second time, she met my eyes with a coldness that I had never seen before. “You got what you wanted,” she said. “What more do you want from me?” I shook my head. “Yara, please.” “Do not speak my name,” she snapped. “You do not deserve to say it.” The third time, I found her alone, staring out of one of the windows of the mansion. I hesitated before stepping closer. “I know you hate me, and I understand why. But you have to believe me that I never wanted this.” She didn’t even turn her head. “Of course you didn’t. Just like your mother never wanted you.” Her words were like a blade to my chest. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. Yara finally looked at me, her expression filled with resentment. “You ruined my life. Maybe it would have been better

Chapter: 009
Raven’s POV The second we stepped into my room, I turned and shoved Jaxon hard in the chest. “What the hell was that?” I snapped at him. “You had a meeting with my father and said all that in front of Yara? You stood there and declared I was your mate and your wife like she wasn’t in the damn room?” Jaxon barely moved from the force of my push. It was like shoving a great oak tree. His green eyes went dark as he studied me. “I said the truth, Ray.” I huffed impatiently. “The truth is that I don’t want this. I don’t want to be married to you. Not if it causes this rift between myself and my sister.” He took a step forward, I took one back. “I wish you had a choice, but you don't anymore,” he murmured. “I have already marked you.” “I can still reject the bond.” He smiled coyly. "You wouldn't do that." “I can,” I repeated. “Okay, yeah, sure. We had a very insignificant moment in that tool shed..." "...and another 'insignificant' moment before that window," his smile was teasing

Chapter: 008
Jaxon’s POV I had never been a man who begged. Yet here I was, standing before Alpha Viktor, begging for what should have been mine from the beginning. “You have to understand that I cannot marry Yara.” I implored Alpha Viktor. “Raven is my mate. I have already marked her. If you want this alliance to remain, you have to release her to me. It's been a whole day since you locked her up!” Alpha Viktor sat behind his massive wooden desk, his fingers tapping against the surface. His grey eyes studied me with the sharpness of a blade. Yara who stood beside me, let out a choked sob. Her mother Elinor stood beside her, staring at her husband with pleas in her eyes. I knew Luna Elinor wanted me to marry Yara, just as much as Yara herself did. "What do you have to say about this, Viktor?" She asked her husband. He ignored her completely. Yara was staring at me, silently begging me to look at her, but I didn't. I wasn't sure I would like what I saw in those eyes.“You promised.” Her voice

Chapter: 007
Raven's POV The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the silence. My room felt eerily still. My body ached dully, reminding me of last night. The sheets beneath me were tangled, half-pulled off the bed and crumpled on the floor. I blinked against the faint light streaming through the window, my eyes catching the faint indent of where someone else had been lying. The other side of the bed was empty now. Empty and cold. My heart sank as the memory of Jaxon’s hands on my skin, his lips tracing every inch of me, came flooding back. Heat rose to my cheeks as I clutched the sheet to my chest. I turned my head, searching the room for any sign of him, but it was empty. His scent—rain and steel—still lingered in the air, teasing my senses. The ache in my chest deepened. He was gone. I sat up slowly, the sheet slipping from my shoulders. My clothes were scattered across the floor, a mess of torn fabric and discarded buttons. My fingers brushed the faint marks on my neck and collarbone,
