Suspicion

STACY

"What are you doing here?" I asked again in fury. I had come here in hopes that Scarlet had finally left for good, but here she was. What was she doing here? I didn't expect her to be here. Why hadn't she informed me that she was back?

I took a good look at her from head to toe, something was different about her. I mean not so much difference, but something was different, though I couldn't seem to place my hands on it. It was still a big mystery to me that she had decided to come back into Jace's life.

"I'm sorry…" I decided to apologize out of the blue. Something was different about Scarlet, I was bound to find out about whatever it was and right now, I just had to play cool and be nice to get words out of her mouth.

"It's.. Right, I'm fine," Scarlet muttered, accepting my apology, which made me squint my eyes. She was behaving very strangely. Why did she accept my apologies so quickly?

"What's up with all these?" I questioned her curiously, as I referred to her hair and eye color. Why did she change all that? Was that even a necessity?

"What's up with what?" She retorted as she wondered what I must have meant.

"Your eyes, and hair, why did you have to change that?" I quizzed. Everything about her was so suspicious right now, her being back here, and everything. She was supposed to leave Jace for good and that's the reason I came here today, solely to spend a good time with him.

Jace is my best friend, we have been friends for God knows how long. We do a lot of things together, as friends should be, but I wanted more, I wanted him to be mine and mine alone. Just the two of us, living together without any obstacles.

"Oh this, I guess you like it also," Scarlet chuckled, picking up a strand of her hair.

"I decided to try something new, it suits me right?" She added, smiling from ear to ear, I shook my head slowly.

"Yes.." I uttered, suspicions kept on filling me up, each time I looked at her.

Why does something feel eerie? Scarlet being around here, didn’t just sit well with me. I wanted her gone. I needed to put more effort into making her disappear forever.

"I thought I'd look pretty in these…" she giggled gingerly, playing with strands of her hair.

"Yes, you do.." I said in a low voice, sinking my teeth in my lower lip.

“I'm sorry for earlier…" I apologized again.

I had to be in her good book because I had to find out something very important from her. Something about her return, and that could only be possible if I played it cool.

I would never get anything from her if I appeared as an enemy, she would certainly refrain from spilling the beans.

"No it's alright.." she waved me off.

"I guess something must have startled you," she added.

Of course, her presence startled me. I came here with high hopes, which had successfully been shattered by her presence.

"No it didn't, I guess I was just too happy for Jace. You know he is my best friend and I'm so happy he has successfully gotten close to a woman. I was overwhelmed by this, that's all." I explained to her, containing my best composure and trying so hard to keep my cool.

"It's alright,.." she smiled warmly at me, and I reciprocated a fake smile back at her.

"Stacy.." I heard Jace's voice and I quickly turned to face him. He was already done with his call. Goodness, he looked hot as always, so handsome.

"What are you guys doing here?" He inquired, with suspicion in his eyes.

Jace was a very smart man, and a person had to be wary of him. It was very hard to fool Jace, and he hardly ever let his guard down.

"Nothing.." I smiled brightly at him, I tucked my hair behind my ears, as I walked up to him, crossing my arms around his.

"Just a little chit-chat.." I replied, my smile still on my face.

"I love her new look, I was just complimenting her.." I added, and Jace shook his head absentmindedly, he didn't look like he cared.

All Jace had ever cared about was work, his business, all he had ever wanted was securing his father's company.

He was a very devoted mam, and sadly he was devoted only to his work and no one else. He hardly gave a damn about anyone. I could only get this close to him because we've gone a long way together, and he considers me as a trusted friend.

"Going somewhere?" I asked as I noticed his clothes were different from the ones he had worn earlier.

"Yes," he responded,

"Great!!" I exclaimed happily.

I believed that we were both meant for each other, it would not take long before Jace realized his feelings for me, and then we would be together.

"I was about to leave also, we can go together.." I proposed, and he said nothing to that, which only meant he had agreed.

"Let's go.." I dragged him along, and I turned to Scarlet.

"Bye Scarlet.." I waved gingerly,

"Bye.." she muttered softly, watching the both of us leave.

Both I and Jace went into our various cars and drove out immediately.

The work must be urgent, I thought. I brought out my phone and dialed a number.

"Yes ma'am.." a voice peered out from the phone speakers.

"I want you to find me Scarlet's phone number.." I ordered.

"On it ma'am" the person on the other line responded, and the call ended.

"What are you up to, Scarlet?" I spoke to myself, trying so hard to think of something.

Why did she come back? That question kept lingering in my head, as I accelerated the car and drove out hitting my brakes In anger.
