Chapter 4

"I need something to make a man stay. Something that will make him forget that other girls exist. I need that something whatever it is!" I shouted at my friend, Laurie.

She just laughed incredulously, amused about my idea.

"Well, I think what you are looking for is a love potion, Jill. I didn't know you believe in stuff like that! That's outrageous but of course, I'm not judging you. I can't judge because I know that woman in love will do anything to get her man."

I stopped from my relentless pacing on the carpeted floor of my room and then crossed my arms and shot her a beaming look.

"Wait, why didn't I think about that? Right! I need a witch to make me a love potion so that Scott will fall in love with me. My god Laurie! You're a genius!" I snatched my phone from her hand and dialed a number.

"And my god Jill! You are actually believing me? I'm just bluffing you! What a gullible human being you are! Stop it!" Taking long strides across the room to reach me, she grabbed my phone and throw it on the bed.

"Get a hold of yourself, will you? Gosh! You really love him that much!"

"Yes, I love him as hell." I sat down on the floor and pulled my hair in frustration.

"What am I going to do now, Laurie? What am I supposed to do to make him mine?"

She kneeled infront of me and cupped my face. "Hey, look Jill. Why can't you just let him go away? You see, you can't make a man stay if he doesn't want to especially Scott. He loves someone else so drop it off already, okay? There are tons of men out there whol will go down on their knees just to have you," she tried to convince me.

"But I only want Scott, Laurie. I only want him. I cannot care for other men because all I want to have is Scott. I've never wanted anyone in the world like how I crave for him. Please help me, Laurie. Just this once, please? Help me find a way to make him fall for me, please?" I pleaded.

Laurie looked at me hopelessly.

"But what if it doesn't work out?"

"How can we say it won't work out when we haven't even try it, hmm?" I smiled persuasively.

"Okay, you got me there," she said in resignation. "You win again. You're really good at convincing people, huh."

She reached for her phone inside her Prada bag and typed something. I watched in anticipation as she constantly throw me glances.

"Is it done already?" I asked after Laurie turned off her phone.

"Yup." She gave me a smug smile.

I excitedly went to her. "When will I have it? Later? Tomorrow? When? I need it as soon as possible!"

She held in her arms. "Relax okay? It will come. Just be patient, okay? You heard me?"

I nodded my head. "Yeah, I know I know. I just got too excited by the idea of finally having him. I can't wait Laurie."

She just smiled at me.

The next day, she handed me a weird looking vial with a queer looking green substance inside it. I shake the small bottle and opened it to smell the liquid. I scrunched my nose at the smell of a spoiled rotten meat.

"Eew! What is this Laurie? Smells like a hundred year old saliva." I put the lid back on the vial and reached for my alcohol. I'm giving my friend a look while pouring all the contents of the bottle to my hand.

Laurie rolled her eyes at me. "Come on, Jill! It's a potion for a reason. That friend of mine told me that the more stringent it smells, the more effective it will be. Isn't that what we all wanted? For it to be too effective so that Trevor will be yours forever and ever, right?"

I nodded at her words. " You're right, Laurie. You're right." I said it like I am more convincing myself more than her.

"Good. Now all you have to do is put a little bit of it on any of Trevor's food. Make sure that he'll eat it and then wait for about a week and he'll come running on to you on his knees begging for you to love him."

I felt elated at the possibility of Trevor finally falling in love with me. "Yes, Laurie. I'll do that."

She picked up her bag on my desk and headed for the door. "Good luck, Jill. Break a leg." She winked at me.

I was left on my seat wide-eyed at the love weapon in my hand. After a minute of staring at it, I rose in my feet to make my dream a reality. I went to the powder room to make sure I look great and then went out of the office. So much for pretending I kind be an effective office girl for a day. I'll just tell mom to transfer me to another branch of our company preferably that of nearer to Trevor's building.

I rode the elevator down and went straight to my BMW. I put my sunglasses while humming to my favorite song and then speeding away. I stopped to a nearby famous bakeshop and bought a chocolate cake,  his favorite cake. When inside the car, I put a dab of concoction on the cake making sure that all parts have been equally given a portion of my potion.

"This will do. Trevor Scott, you'll be mine finally. I can't wait, my love. I can't wait."

With my car stereo blasting on and my car speed on its top, I sang my happy mood and ignored my ringing phone. For sure, it's just mom again trying to 'straighten' me out or lecture me about the importance of studying our business so that when I'll be able enough to handle it, she can finally retire.

"But mom, I can never handle it the way you wanted it. That's why I'm trying to do everything to get my man. That man will be able to handle our empire. Just so you wait, mom."

I chuckled at the idea.
