They started to back out of the Maze when they heard the trapdoor open. “Get her out of here.” Max said to Mitsuhide and the two started to run as fast as she could go. Which wasn’t that fast.
Deanna turned to Mitsuhide and said, “Go help him. I am fine.”
“Not on your life, Deanna. This was my job from the start. I will take the cops back when they get here and both of us can have back up.” Mitsuhide said as he moved her to the circle of children and stood in front of her. Though it had never been said he knew his job was getting her through the next part. Which ever way it worked out.
Mitsuhide and Kit shared a glance. Kit got up and went over to Deanna. Kit helped her sit. “It will be fine.” Kit said as she held her hand.
“Nothing about my family is fine.” Deanna said.
Deanna tried to stand up but Kit was by her side. Ssit.” She said as she looked at Mitsuhide. “Go moron and see.”Mitsuhide took off in a run to see who was shot. When the police tried to stop him Max rounded the corner of the maze walls. Mitsuhide blew out a breath and looked him over. His hands were covered in blood. “Who was it?” Mitsuhide asked.“I didn’t ask.” Max replied and shook his head. “I need something to clean my hands before I see her. She is okay right?”“Not if you take much longer.” Mitsuhide chuckled. “She and Kit ordered me to come check on you.”“And you didn’t think to yourself?” Max asked as he chuckled and looked at his old friend.“I trained you with
“I guess with that you are right.” The older man said as he looked around the area and the activity going on.Max was taking it all in as well. Another episode in his life brought on by the Watson’s he had to wonder if this was ever going to end. Luckily he was prepared for all of this. He knew this was one more thing to add to the list of things Deanna had to deal with. It was supposed to be a weekend that she could relax and maybe have someone she could talk to that understood. Though he knew that she knew she could tell him anything it was harder for her to say anything at times. Max could see the burning rage in her eyes at times. The look itself didn’t scare him though it did make him feel bad for her. She was trying so hard to put this past her that when she would get that look he knew she wa
Max walked to the maze and took a steading breath. He thought back to what Deanna had just said. He remembered he had brought up the thought about a week later that they had not found any boys at the house. It was a weird thought not because he wanted to find more bodies or even records of babies born at the house it was all the pictures in the box that Cheryl had were boys around the ages of three or four. They had found no traces of them. They had no records of them leaving as well.During the five month period where they had nearly torn the house apart to see if they could find anything else they also had brought in ground radar. They went over the grounds but not the maze. Because of the narrow pathways and the tree roots they thought it was safe from any of the family’s perversions. It was proof that nothing was safe from the Watson’s insanity.
Max took out his light and shined it in the room. The shadow moved again in the corner. “My name is Max Anderson. I am a detective with the Highlands police department. I am also married to Deanna Watson. I need you to show yourself and keep your hands up.”Max knew these people probably only the basics of things. He spoke calmly and knew someone else probably wouldn’t be able to get through to the people in the room. He had the key to most of the family’s secrets and that was his tiny wife. Her name was known to almost everyone they had found even the smaller children.“Deanna?” One of them asked softly. The Shadow moved closer still hugging the wall. Max knew his light wouldn’t reach the corner of the room but he had said the magic words when bringing up Deanna. This was her family after all. Whatever had gone
Max led the younger ones out of the room into the darkened room and then out into the main room. He didn’t stop though. He continued up the stairs looking in back of him to make sure all were still following him. A few other officers were there helping him herd the boys up the stairs now. He smiled at the two infants in his arms. He saw the daylight and could hear the people right by the opening.Soon he was leading everyone out of the maze. He turned to see the group he had left had moved closer to the maze and was out of everyone’s way. Deanna was the first to notice him. Her eyes went wide as she saw what was in his arms. She nearly ran over as she made her way over to him. She saw the trail of children behind him.“My god.” She said as she took one of the boys out of his arms. She was glancing over the boys. “How are they still here?”
All of the officers helped get the boys on the bus. Max didn’t know where it was going to take them and honestly he didn’t care. He had seen that look in grown men many times when he had questioned killers. Something wasn’t right. He looked over to the people standing by his children. “You didn’t say anything about the boys.”“I didn’t see any boys.” Mitsuhide said as he looked over the other man. Mitsuhide understood the question for what it really was. Max had to question everything and now he was in the spotlight. “I only saw grown men and women, Max.”“Then what was he talking about with the chat rooms and being picked?” Max asked out loud. “What was done to them that they could go from innocent to blood thirsty lunatics?”“Max.&r
He sighed again as he looked at the wall. The room was only seen if the light was on. It was off to the side of the hallway. It had been near where Deanna would have been if she had made it all the way down the stairs. He looked around him and motioned to the officers that were standing there. He pressed on the wall. The door popped open and he was glad he had at least figured out the way to open their secret rooms. That seemed to be the easiest part of dealing with them. The doors were almost all the same. The light was so bright in the room. He looked into it and didn’t see anyone though. He did however see the monitors that lined the walls. He walked in and could see the topside of where he was. He had to think to himself, “Of course they had cameras everywhere.”He shook his head as he could identify different places in the yard an
The three girls were dressed exactly the same as two of them were standing in the middle of the maze. The two that were standing there were in what looked to be white robes that were stained red. One girl was wearing the same but she was laid in front of the two in a planter. The smiles on the two that were standing as they looked at the camera would normally suggest they were happy and celebrating. However the picture around them spoke to more of what it was. Deanna looked at the picture and almost fell to the ground. She couldn’t remember that day but she remembered playing in the maze before she hated it. She thought she had made it all up. The other versions of herself. She had thought they were just things she had made up in her mind. She only had flashes of the maze and them.“Go away.” Deanna said as she stumbled away from them.
