(04) Hunter and the Chamber of Secrets

H U N T E R  J O N E S

I was reading the second Harry Potter book while leaning against the wall in the alley with Ty on my side. I knew Mey had asked me to read the Goblet of Fire to figure out the three unforgivable curses, but after picking the book randomly, I felt that I owed it to the author to read it from the first book. So I had picked up Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone from the library yesterday, finished the book in seven hours, and had it returned this morning. When I had returned the first one, I immediately borrowed the second one: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which was the book I was reading right now.

"I don't care what sort of blood you've got!" said Harry fiercely. "Why would I want to attack Muggle-borns?" [ Excerpt From Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling ]

I was about to bring the book closer to my face when in a matter of seconds, it was suddenly disappeared, out of my grasp. I looked up and saw Ty holding the book with a playful smile on his face.

"Man, give it back! I'm not finished!" I crossed my arms and looked at him, completely annoyed.

Instead of granting my request, he ignored me and turned the cover. His eyes widened in surprise. "Well, this is a secret, alright. I didn't know you're a Harry Potter fan."

Closing the gap between us in two long strides, I grabbed the book from him and stepped away. "You know nothing about me." I quickly opened the book and flipped through the pages, trying to find the page I had been at before the interruption.

"I have known you for a year now, Hunter." He picked up a bottle of beer from the ground and took a long sip. "I think I picked up one or two things about you. One of them is that you don't read, especially a book. Although I know for a fact that you did skim through Playboy mags at least once a week. A bad habit, I must say. In a matter of months, you could be named a pervert."

I knew the last sentence was meant as a joke but I did not care. I went back to my reading and ignored him completely.

A few minutes passed and I was on page 223 when Ty slung one arm over my shoulders and said, "Come on, dude."

I glanced up and frowned. When he had asked me to come here, he had said that he needed to see Lucas and yet we had not seen him. "What? Where is Lucas? I thought we are waiting for him."

"He just came out a while ago but obviously you did not notice." Ty shook his head then let out an exasperated sigh. "Anyway, we need to be somewhere else. Come on." We walked to my Jeep, which was parked right next to Lucas's baby.

"Where are we going?" I put the book on the dashboard after marking the page then started the engine. It only took mere seconds before the engine roared to life.

Ty grimaced. "We are going to kick an asshole's ass. I need your help though. I have the feeling that he won't be coming alone."

I smirked, suddenly interested in our this new venture. "Someone I know? I know lots of asses thanks to being one." I was never a fan of violence but if someone was messing with my friends, I considered that they were messing with me and I would not mind throwing a few punches and get my hands dirty.

"Nah," he shook his head as he fastened his seatbelt. "You don't know him, but you're gonna like him anyway. Considering you used to bang his big sister."

I frowned. His sister? I tried hard to think about the girls that I had been with before it suddenly made sense. I let out a deep chuckle and shook my head in disbelief once I figured out who he meant. "No way! We are going after Nat Ryan's little brother, aren't we?"
