Chapter 22: Darren
Strolling into work, I feel on top of the world. Nothing can make my day bad, not even Jake. Today, my plan is to find out who the mystery woman is and make her mine, tie up loose ends with the whole Jenna thing and then find out who the fuck the person calling me is.
I start out by opening my laptop and looking up the new hires. There are a couple names I don't recognize and call Theresa into the office. She walks in and smiles, "Anything I can help you with?"
"Yes, actually I am wondering something. There are a few people here that I haven't met yet and I wondered if you have met any of the women on this list? I like to make sure that I meet everyone in the company at least once. Just to make an appearance and let them know if they have any problems that they can come to me."

Frustrated and incredibly horny, I try to sleep after pacing around for awhile. When Lauryn left, I couldn't believe the bad luck I was having and then it turned to anger. Realizing that the man on the phone could be her boyfriend, I find myself wondering why she came back to my apartment. Not wanting to go to work, I have to force myself to get in the car and drive. Feeling depressed, I watch as a woman pulls up next to me at the light. She has really pretty long black hair in a braid and she is wearing matching black designer glasses. The kind you see actresses wear all the time. The reason why I'm late for work is I'm not looking forward to seeing Darren. Last night was so hot, that when I did fall asleep eventually, I dreamt about it. When the doctor put Fluffy to sleep, I was so heart broken that I sat on my couch for hours with Chris holding me. He really is the best. However, seeing Darren mad like that made me want to run the other way. I don't want him to take it out on me at work and affect my chances of succeeding there, because I am already becoming partial to it and the people I work with. The last thing I would tell Lauryn is that Jake wants to talk to me about Jenna, so I lie. After all, what she doesn't know won't hurt her and I didn't know I would ever see her again, let alone work here under me. I pace around Jake's office and listen to him lecture me. Not being able to believe that I forgot to give her the necklace, I get impatient and want to just walk back to her office. "You know, if you kept your dick in your pants we wouldn't be having these problems right now." He turns to me mad and shows me the documents, the lawyer had drawn up. "I thought your man took care of this problem?" "He did, but apparently not before the lawyer sent this." As I continue to pace, I wonder what this is really about. Piecing the puzzle together, I figure it out and turn on him. "You are mad because Lauryn is mine, aren't you? Why are we even fighting over her, you are fucking Theresa?"

I can't believe Mr. Denver jumped me like that. Just when I was about to leave with Janet for dinner, he comes in and tells me he needs to talk to me. Looking at Janet, I could tell something was up, because she wouldn't look me in the eyes. Staring at the ceiling, I toss and turn eventually getting out of bed. I look at the alarm and it reads 7 a.m. Not wanting to wake Lauryn on a Saturday, I do my gym time and afterwards jump in the shower. The cascading water feels wonderful on my tired muscles. I have one of those deluxe showers that have several spouts, one on each wall. Usually putting the shower to the first setting, I stand in the middle as they pulse powerfully and assault my body from all sides. The heat beats on me while I run my hands down over my body. Today, I think I will use my all time favorite Woodsy and Citrus body wash. Reaching for it, I feel the stretching of the incision in my side. Still not completely healed, I favor it and hope that it doesn't leave too big of a scar. Yes, I know. It's manly to have scars, but perfection is a big part of my persona. When we go inside, Darren's mom gives me a hug and whispers in my ear, "He loves you, don't hurt him dear." Letting me go, she gives me a warning look and then smiles at Darren lovingly. "Sweetie, have a seat next to your girlfriend and tell me all about how you two met." Her eyes are fixed on me and I can tell she is watching out for him. Something in his past, must have made her this way. Darren sits down right next to me and holds my hand. Lacing my fingers with his, he doesn't let go as he tells her. "One night I was coming home from a friend's house and I hit a deer. Realizing that the battery in my phone died, I walked up to the nearest house. It just happened to be Lauryn's." He stops and smiles at me, squeezing my hand. "She was very kind to open for me and let me use her phone, considering it was about 2 in the morning. I never asked for her name or number, thinking we would never see

After telling Lauryn that I love her, she acts shocked. How could she be? I know she feels the same way, because I can sense it. When we touch, it's like our souls intertwine. I watch her get dressed and get up on the horse, while I do the same. Between the kicking and bucking, I manage to calm Goldy down and catch up to Lauryn going at a fairly fast pace. Riding next to her, I sit quietly not wanting to make things worse than they already are. She probably thinks this whole thing is some kind of setup, because ever since she got here it has been one thing after another.
