LIKE THE OLD DAYS

CHAPTER 2 LIKE THE OLD DAYS

“Mister President, this way sir, Chief Ramires, and Attorney Colette are now waiting for you.”

A dangerous and fickle man like him is something that I should avoid. I coldly nodded my head as greetings then turned my back against him and proceeded to my seat.

The trial went on for 3 hours, and by the time we finished with everything it was already lunch, and as always, we won the case. It was a big and tricky case since what was at stake is 10 billion dollars worth of money. For me, it was nothing, but for the people being abused, and being robbed by those greedy old folks, such money is extremely important to them.

“Miss Colette, thank you so much, as expected of someone from the Colette family, you surely won this case flawlessly.”

“It was all because of my team’s diligence.” People congratulated me from left to right as I walked back to my office. I simply replied with a small smile, and a short thanks.

For the next few hours of my work, I was at peace, and I didn’t see that man again and I prefer it that way. For years after we graduated from each of our courses, and proceeded with our own careers, I have been trying my best to avoid the man. I don’t particularly hate him, I just feel anxious, and exposed whenever I am around him.

It may sound shallow, but for me, who was always confident, and proud of herself, feeling nervous around someone who was nothing but a boorish, and ruthless man is a big deal.

I glanced at my wristwatch and quickly grabbed my purse. I headed down the elevator, and speaking of the devil, I saw him right before me. The man leaned on the elevator’s walls with his hand in his pocket.

“Miss Colette, a pleasure to see you here.” He was with the police’s Chief, John Ramires, and my Father’s second brother, Attorney Bernard Colette.

“Cleo, you’re done with your work?”

Seeing them, I thought it would be weird if I didn't get in, and turn away, he would surely realize that I was avoiding him. Plus, it would be rude to ignore my Uncle. I strengthened my will and got on, I even had to pull out some files from the file case organizer just so he wouldn’t have a chance to strike up a conversation with me.

“Gentlemen, greetings, Chief Ramires, Attorney Colette, and President Guilerme.” Luckily these two elder men are here, or else, I would be sweating like crazy with such close proximity to the man. “And, yes Uncle, I am about to head home since I have nothing else to do now.”

“You sound so distant Miss Cleo, we have known each other since we were 3. Just call me Arsin.” The man grinned at me, he was enjoying the fact that there are people around us so then I can’t say no to him because it would seem fishy.

“If you’re about to head home, then I guess you haven’t had dinner yet, why don’t you join us? The more the merrier. Of course, if President Guilerme doesn't mind my sudden invitation? Ah before I forget, congratulations on winning your case this morning. I heard you had quite a hard time with this one.” Chief Ramires suggested, that if I could bury myself right now, I would.

“No, No, it’s fine, it’ll be fun to have the brilliant Cleo Colette later. We’ll have a lot to talk about with her joining us.” I tried not to show my anxiousness, I started to rub my thumb, and pointer finger together, this is a habit I have ever since, whenever I am nervous.

Arsin Guilermo lifted his brow at me, and I could tell that he knew what I was feeling after he caught a glimpse of my fidgeting fingers.

“Yeah, join us, it’s Saturday tomorrow so there’s no work for you then. Your father will also be joining us, so come along.” I wanted to beg my Uncle not to agree to this setup, but there’s no turning back now since even my father would come.

“Alright, just tell me the location, and I will meet you guys there once my driver arrives.”

Not for long, the elevator door opened and brought us to the parking lot.

“Don’t you have your car with you?” Uncle Bernard asked, it was rare for me to have a driver around that’s why he asked about it.

“I had it checked, and at the same time had monthly maintenance. Just wanna make sure nothing is wrong with it. But he will be here in 15 minutes, so no worries.”

“Is that so?”

“Why don’t you ride with me? It would be more convenient, we can’t just leave you here, besides, we will be heading to the same location anyway.” The devil incarnate man brushed his fingers through his hair, and looked at me with those emerald eyes that seemed to be sucking me in.

How viciously deadly this man's looks are.

“No thanks, it doesn’t bother me if I stay at all. I can just wait for my driver.”

“Cleo, just ride with Arsin, it will be a pretty long travel, and we wouldn’t want to make your father wait.” hearing that, I was left with no choice, and agreed to this arrangement in the end.

A few seconds later, a custom-made version of Aston Martin DB11 pulled over in front of us, and Arsin got off the driver’s seat, walked to the side, and opened the door for me.

“My lady,” he reached his hand out to me, wanting to assist me, however, the thought of touching his skin made my body stiff.

“Thanks” I accepted it still, and immediately let go of his hand as if I got burned by something once I sat on the car seat.

I thought he would close the door and leave, but a rake will always be a rake. He knew how to flatter a woman, and just so happens, that it doesn’t work with me, or rather, it shouldn’t.

He leaned forward, and I could swear I smelled the scent of his minty fragrance mixed with his masculine tinge of sweaty scent. How could this man smell so sexy?

The corners of his lips raised into a smirk, and I could tell he noticed that I liked how he smelled. Goodness gracious, I wanna rip that smug look on his face. He secured my seat belt for me and once done, he went to the driver’s seat and sped off.

I swear to God, whoever saint could make a 45-minute ride short, I would pray for that saint every day, and even become a nun if necessary.

“I heard that your father received hundreds of marriage proposals for the past 3 weeks after they heard about you turning 25 by the end of the year.”

It was dead quiet for the past 5 minutes, so hearing him open up a conversation out of the blue made my heart jump in fear. I relaxed in order not to raise suspicions before deciding to answer him.

“Yeah, I was given the choice to pick amongst the 10 people he chose from all those proposals. It doesn’t really matter who I marry.”

I could feel his eyes looking at me seriously as if he was trying to decipher what I am really thinking and feeling at the moment.

“Focus on the road,” I mumbled and looked out the window. I wanted him to stop talking to me but by the looks of it, this night would be filled with troubles.

“So have you chosen a man yet?” He was swiftly driving through the road and just so happened that there was traffic ahead of us. I have no reason to ignore his questions when I have nothing to use as an excuse.

“No, I might just choose randomly if I don’t have anyone in mind by the end of the month.”

“That won’t do, how about you marry me instead? I am pretty sure I am capable enough to satisfy you. Just like the old days.” I was stunned by his words, and had my mouth gaping at him due to shock.

How dare he!

“Shut up Guilerme, I am pretty sure I won the deal, and made you never speak of that ever again! You bastard!” I gritted my teeth in anxiousness, and thankfully it was just the two of us in the car.

“Guilerme? Darling why are you so distant, I can still recall how you moan in pleasure beneath me. Perhaps, you need me to help you remember?” He smugly smiled and glanced at me with those eyes that seemed to be stripping me naked the longer I stayed in front of him.
