Chapter 4. The Wild West

* Alpha Xander *

"Good morning Alpha Xander! A pleasant day, we have an invitation that arrives early this morning!"

The excitement in Beta Alex's voice had me stop myself from doing another push-up on the concrete floor of my spacious room. I rose to my feet and took the white towel from a bar close to me. I use it to wipe the sweat all over my face down to my neck and my chest. Almost half of my bedroom is occupied with gym equipment not to mention the ones on my bedroom's balcony.

"What invitation? From and from who? Did you check the sender?"

I assume another party from one of my acquaintances in the city or the Alpha of another region.

"Of course your majesty! It is an important invitation coming from the Alpha King."

My movements stop. Alpha King Vincent send us an invitation. I wonder what's the occasion that he has to formally send it in a fancy card which is now in Alex's hand. He looks at it and reads the written message on the small card.

"Oh well, when would that be?"

I am not that interested in parties and fancy occasions, I have my hands full with the pack and the wolves that I'm dealing with every day. If I wanted to have a little gathering or celebration we have our bar not far from the Alpha mansion.

"It says after tomorrow. Oh, It's been a while since I've been to the Langston palace Alpha. Calib would be expecting me for sure and all the hot shewolves!"

Alex shakes his hips and laughs while I tap him on the shoulders. He has not yet found his mate at his age and loves to see how Calib is doing with his married life back in the Royal pack, the two were best buddies, and are working under Alpha King Vincent before he became my Beta.

"You can go ahead without me, find an excuse to Alpha King Vincent why I couldn't come. I am sure you want to see your buddies back in the Royal pack. I have better things to do rather than talk to the other Alphas about how much they have achieved over the years."

His eyes widened as he look at me in surprise. "This is not one of those parties Alpha, it says this is to announce the gender of their baby. All the Alphas are invited and the young pups too! Well, it's too bad we don't have any pups to bring. You and I are still single."

I nodded my head and look at him straight in the eyes. "That makes me less interested."

I shrugged my shoulders and put on my shirt. I have to go down and take a cup of coffee before I go to watch the warriors train and then to my office. Beta Alex is following behind me to the kitchen.

"Good morning Alpha Xander!"

Bella one of the help in charge of cooking and cleaning the mansion greeted me with a smile on her face. Her mother Mrs. Clarins is serving the mansion since I was young.

"Good morning Bella."

I walk to the dining room where I usually take my coffee in the same spot every morning. "Good morning Beta Alex!"

"Good morning Bella! Wow look at you, you're all grown up now and very pretty too!"

Alex tease the eighteen-year-old help who giggled in return. "Yes Beta, shall I bring you a cup of coffee too?"

"Yes pretty, I'll be with Alpha Xander alright? Take care. Don't burn those lovely hands of yours."

He followed me into the dining room with a smile painted on his face. Alex has an insatiable taste for both women and she-wolves. He loves to play around and hang out with them but is unattached. We both agree on the latter.

"My goodness Alex, she just turned eighteen. Mrs. Clarins will kill you if she hears you flirting with her daughter."

I warned him with my lips twisted in mock amusement. "Oh! I am not serious Alpha, I'm just playing with the young girl she looks pretty. I don't sleep with inexperienced girls, especially she-wolves who are still waiting for their mate Alpha. That's something you have to be assured about me."

I took a deep breath in and watch him take sit beside me. Alex is insatiable when it comes to women, which may be all the reason why he couldn't find his fated mate. For me, I never expect anything more than sharing a bed with she-wolves who shows their interest in me. But I know how to explain the rules, I am the Alpha, and when I say it's over. It is done, they don't get to ask for more. I haven't found my fated mate too if I have one which is given by the Moon Goddess.

"Your coffee Alpha Xander."

Bella put the cup of hot coffee in front of me before going to Alex. He winks at her and she walks slowly with her head down, I know my presence made her act properly.

"Thank you, Bella."

She smiled at me and left us in the dining room. "You serious about not going to the party of the Langstons?"

Alex ask again before sipping at the coffee on his cup. I took mine as well and drink, let the hot liquid glide down my throat, while keeping my mouth shut.

"I am sure Alpha Zero and his Luna will be there. Oh, and their young daughter. Did you remember the one you save by donating your Alpha blood?"

The cup of coffee almost spills when I put it back on the table harshly. Alpha Zero of the North and his Luna, the former Princess of the Langston Palace. Of course they will be there! It's been a long time since I've seen them after they gave birth to their first heir. I was a lot younger back then.

"I remember, how long has it been? How old is their daughter now?"

I raised my brow and tried remembering how many years. "I think the child is about thirteen Alpha, it would be nice to meet the young heiress of the North. The one who has your blood on her system aside from her father's.

I look at him and thought he is right. However, I have done it without asking for anything in return.

"Stop talking about it Alex, if the other wolves hears it. They might misunderstood and you know the temper of Alpha Zero. We don't want to upset the Alpha of the North."

Alex smiled and nod his head. The borders of the North are much near compared to the Langston Palace however I couldn't just go to another Alpha's territory without an invitation. A few years ago they sent me an invite for their child's birthday, however I turned it down being busy with the pack and my training.

I took a sip at my coffee again and thought of what I would do in the next two days. Maybe for a change I would see if how they are doing.

"Is there a dress code on the party?"

The question made Alex smile from ear to ear. "Oh, no Alpha. It did not say anything about the clothes we need to wear, so anything decent for the Alpha King is fine."

I nodded my head and get another sip at my coffee. "I better get going now Alpha, the borders are waiting for my routine check today."

"OK, inspect thoroughly Alex and report to me if you see anything unusual."

He rose from his seat and give me a hand salute. "Always Alpha!"

Before leaving, he glances at the kitchen door and shouted to Bella. "Take care Bella, I'm off to work."

"Goodbye Beta Alex, thank you."

She answered with a cheerful voice.

My mind went back to the scene many years ago. Back to the Langston Palace when Alpha Zero came to me out of desperation. It's a matter of life and death for his Luna and their first heir to the Cold Mountain pack, I haven't thought it more before I volunteered and help them. Then the Alpha of the North swore to return the favor one day. A debt as what he said it but it didn't matter to me.

I drag back the chair and finish my cup before going out of the main door to start what I have to do for the day. I can't explain how I feel about showing up at the party but something deep inside of me is telling me to go.
