How could anyone be scared of me?

I look down at myself. Puzzled and confused as I wait for his reply.

“Not you, but everything that surrounds you. I don’t know who hurt you. I don’t know who kidnapped you. I don’t know what they want with you. That scares me.”

I didn’t like the way this conversation was going. He wasn’t at all like the man that mum had warned me about. A man who feared nothing. A man who cared for nothing. That was what she had said and right now, it sounded like he cared.

Jumping to my feet. “Can you take me for a run?”

“Lilah, we are not done…”

“I am. Look, I haven’t shifted since the clothes store. I see others doing it all the time. It’s a really nice day.” I was desperate to get away from what he was talking about. It just made me so uncomfortable.

“You can’t control your shift yet."

“Well then it’s perfect isn’t it. You can teach me. I’m guessing it’s the same as how you do it?”
