LOGINChapter 5
A Deal with the Devil
Mary’s POV
Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine I’d be forced into marriage with a man I didn’t love.
No, not just a man. A De La Cruz.
A ruthless, arrogant, insufferable devil.
I had always dreamed of a love story, one where a man adored me, cherished me, got down on one knee with love in his eyes. A fairy tale.
This was not a fairy tale.
This was a transaction.
A cold, calculated sentence wrapped in designer suits and bloodstained power.
It’s just for a year.
The words echoed in my head like a mantra, but they did nothing to ease the tightness in my chest. I could still hear Andrew’s voice, dripping with arrogance. I could still see the way he smirked at me, as if he had already won.
The car ride home was silent, but inside, my mind was a war zone, anger and regret clashing like two raging storms. My nails dug into my palms as Andrew’s voice played in my head again.
"That night meant nothing to me."
The words sliced through me like a blade, sharp and merciless.
I had been foolish to think otherwise.
Men like Andrew De La Cruz didn’t look back. They didn’t feel. They took what they wanted and left.
I closed my eyes, swallowing the lump in my throat.
I was nothing more than a game to him.
A conquest.
A pawn in his twisted world.
A sigh pulled me from my thoughts.
My father.
He sat across from me, his shoulders heavy with relief. His once-strong hands trembled slightly as he rubbed his temples.
“I know this wasn’t easy,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. “And I’m sorry it had to come to this. But you did the right thing. You saved the company. You saved our name.”
He hesitated. “You also did it for yourself, Mary. This company… when I die, it will be yours.”
I stiffened, my fingers curling into fists.
Did I? Did I do this for myself?
Or had I just signed away my soul to the devil himself?
I forced out the words, my voice barely steady. “It’s only a year.”
Just 365 days.
And then?
Then nothing would ever be the same again.
Because once you step into the De La Cruz world, there is no escape.

****The Next Morning****
I barely slept.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.
His piercing blue eyes. That insufferable smirk. The sound of his deep, taunting laughter curling around me like smoke.
By the time morning came, exhaustion clung to me like a second skin. But I refused to let this deal consume me.
I walked into my office, shoulders squared, head high.
Claire, my assistant, looked like she’d seen a ghost.
“Ma’am, the news”
Before she could finish, my phone vibrated aggressively on my desk.
I grabbed it, and the moment I saw the headline, my stomach dropped.
“Billionaire Mafia Lord Andrew De La Cruz Announces Engagement to Business Heiress Mary Ezekiel!”
My throat went dry.
I clicked on the article.
There it was. A photo from last night. Andrew, towering in his tailored black suit, looking every bit the ruthless king he was. And me, standing beside him in my red dress, looking…
Like I belonged there.
I scrolled down, and bile rose in my throat at the words beneath it.
"Andrew De La Cruz, the notorious heir to the De La Cruz empire, has finally chosen a bride. But is this love… or just another business deal?"
A business move.
That’s what I was to them. A bargaining chip.
My hands clenched around my phone as I slammed it onto my desk.
“How dare they?” I hissed, my pulse hammering in my ears.
Claire hesitated. “Are you really… engaged to him?”
I met her gaze, my chest tightening.
Before I could respond, my phone vibrated again.
A text.
From an unknown number.
> Be ready by 7 PM. You’re meeting my family. A
My breath hitched.
Meeting his family? Already?
I stared at the screen, my palms suddenly damp.
Who was he to dictate my time, my decisions, my life?
"Your husband."
The thought sent an ice-cold shiver down my spine.
I exhaled sharply, forcing myself to regain control.
This was happening too fast.
And I knew, without a doubt, that my nightmare was only just beginning.

*****Evening: The De La Cruz Estate****
The car ride to the De La Cruz estate felt like walking into a lion’s den.
The driver, a stoic man with an unreadable expression, said nothing as we passed through the towering iron gates. The estate loomed in the distance, an architectural marvel of power and wealth. Dimly lit lanterns cast eerie shadows on the massive stone walls, adding to the foreboding energy of the place.
I tightened my grip on my clutch, willing my nerves to settle.
This is just for dinner.
Just one evening.
But my instincts told me otherwise.
As the car came to a stop, the door swung open before I could react. A tall, imposing figure stood outside, his sharp features eerily similar to Andrew’s.
“Mary.”
His voice was smooth, yet cold.
I stepped out, forcing a polite smile. “And you are?”
“Victor,” he said simply. “Andrew’s brother.”
A chill ran down my spine.
I had heard whispers about Victor De La Cruz. If Andrew was dangerous, Victor was lethal.
The kind of man who made enemies disappear.
Before I could respond, another voice interrupted.
“She’s finally here.”
I turned, and there he was.
Andrew.
Dressed in another impossibly expensive suit, his presence was suffocating. He looked at me like he already owned me. Like he had already won.
I lifted my chin. I wouldn’t let him see my fear.
He smirked. “Try not to embarrass me, sweetheart.”
I clenched my jaw. “I’ll try if you do the same.”
His lips twitched in amusement. “Fiery. I like it.”
Victor chuckled, but his eyes held something darker. “Let’s see if that fire lasts.”
A cold weight settled in my stomach.
This wasn’t just dinner.
This was an initiation.
And from the way the De La Cruz men were looking at me, like I was something to be tested, pushed, broken, one thing was certain.
This was only the beginning.
Chapter 25Ezekiel’s POVI tapped my fingers on the armrest of my chair, my nerves frayed to the edge. The silence between Andrew and me stretched, thick with tension, as I waited for an answer. The call had been brief, too brief but his tone, sharp and unreadable as ever, left me even more unsettled."Should I be worried?" I asked, forcing my voice to remain steady.Andrew exhaled softly, the sound barely reaching my ears. "No."Just that. Nothing more. No elaboration, no reassurance beyond the single word.I clenched my jaw. "That's not an answer, Andrew. Elijah gave me three days. Today was the third, and yet... nothing happened. That isn't like him. He doesn’t just let things go."Andrew leaned back in his chair, exuding an effortless dominance that only made my unease grow. "I told you to let me handle it, didn’t I?"I narrowed my eyes. "And what exactly does that mean?""It means Elijah is no longer a problem," he said, his tone even, unwavering.Something in my stomach twisted.
Chapter 24 A Dangerous TemptationMary’s POVThe air between us was thick with something I couldn’t define.Desire. Tension. Frustration.Andrew’s fingers lingered against my jaw, his touch burning into my skin. His words still echoed in my head."You’re mine, Mary. Not his. Never his."I should have been angry at him for his arrogance, for his possessiveness. But I wasn’t.I wanted him.I wanted him in a way that defied all logic, all reason. And I didn’t want to stop.Swallowing hard, I let my hands slide up his chest, feeling the hard muscle beneath my fingers. His shirt was still stained with blood, but I didn’t care. His eyes darkened as I pressed closer, my body molding against his. I could feel the tension rolling off him, the way his breathing changed the moment I touched him.“Mary,” he warned.I ignored it.Instead, I rose on my toes and kissed him.The moment our lips met, something inside me ignited.Andrew didn’t move at first. It was like he was holding himself back, f
Chapter 23 Dangerous RetaliationMary’s POVThe shattered necklace lay on the floor like a broken promise.I stared at it for a long time after Andrew left, my mind racing with everything that had just happened. His anger had been palpable, suffocating even, and for the first time in a while, I had seen something close to fear in his eyes, not fear for himself, but for me.It was like he was scared of losing me, the anger brewing inside of him were so much for him to handle. Elijah’s audacity had pushed him over the edge. And now, I had no doubt that Andrew was going to retaliate in a way only he could, the way he knows best to retaliate. Brutally.Mercilessly.And that terrified me.I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I should have expected this. Elijah never did things without purpose. Every move he made was a calculated step in a game only he understood. And this? This was a declaration of war.And Andrew never shys away from war. Especially when it knocking on his door.
Chapter 22 The Breaking PointAndrew’s POVSeated in my office, I had this urge to see Mary so badly. I don't know why but ever since Elijah interest in her, I had seen my self becoming more attracted and attached to her. Like I don't want to share her with anyone. To fufil my heart desires, I left my office heading to the penthouse where she stayed, I have tried to get her stay in the main house but she prefers staying there. She says it gives her breathing space from my step mom and brother. The moment I entered her room, I saw a box on Mary’s nightstand, a slow, burning rage unfurled in my chest.A small, perfectly wrapped package. Dark red ribbon tied in an elegant bow. No name. No card. But I didn’t need one.I knew exactly who had sent it.Elijah.The bastard had the audacity to send a gift to my home, my Territory. To my woman. In my domain.Under my roof. This was an abomination. My grip tightened around the edge of the nightstand, the wood creaking under the pressure.
Chapter 21 A Dangerous LineMary’s POVThe city stretched before me, a sea of glowing lights against the dark sky, but I didn’t see any of it.I stood by the window of my bedroom, arms crossed, fingers gripping my sleeves as if I could hold myself together. The glass was cold beneath my fingertips, but it wasn’t enough to ground me.I had spent my whole life knowing men like Andrew and Elijah existed, but never once did I think I would be caught between them.Yet here I was.And I was starting to feel like a pawn in a game I didn’t understand. My father had called me yesterday, his voice tight with hesitation. Elijah needed an answer. Three days.Three days before what? Before he made good on his threats? Before Andrew found out and decided to handle the situation the only way he knew how, through control and destruction?I let out a slow breath, trying to ease the tightness in my chest.I had given my father my answer. I told him no. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t as simple as that.
Chapter 20 The Game We PlayAndrew’s POVThe world was built on power. That's what I have been taught, Not love. Not trust. Not foolish notions of morality. Power. And that was what had made me who I am now.And power was something I never gave away freely.Despite the fact that I haven't always been like that, as they say “situations change people”. I stood in the dimly lit study of my penthouse, the amber glow from the fireplace casting flickering shadows across the room. A glass of whiskey rested in my hand, but I wasn’t drinking, my mind was so full. I was thinking.Planning.Controlling.Mary had spoken to Elijah.Or would I say Elijah spoke to Mary. She hadn’t lied about it, not that she could have. I had seen it in her eyes, the way she hesitated when I pushed her for answers. She wasn’t afraid of me, not yet, but she was beginning to understand the reality of our situation. The situation we both are locked in. She was beginning to understand me.I smirked to myself, setti
