It was eleven o'clock at night when they came out of the hospital.

Burgess drove the car slower than when they came, looking cautious.

Oprah could feel him looking at her belly occasionally, which showed that Burgess attached great importance to the unborn baby.

Although she would be a mother, she was not as happy as Burgess.

It was not that she didn't like the baby, but that this baby was Burgess’s.

Would Burgess marry her?

So this child was doomed to be illegitimate after it was born. The child would grow up in disgrace with no father and would have to endure the ridicule of others in the future.
