Chapter 5

Author: Snowy
“Judging from the extent of the wound rupture, she must have engaged in strenuous physical activity recently. Didn’t we tell you she needed strict rest? This is practically risking her life!”

I felt a mix of shock and distress.

Why was Claire still participating in intense physical training when she did not even need to take the physical portion of the high school entrance exams?

While confusion still lingered in my mind, my phone buzzed twice. Several anonymous text messages came through.

The sender claimed to be one of Claire’s classmates and said that Lydia had been targeting and bullying Claire ever since she returned to school after surgery. They also said that Lydia had repeatedly brought up the surgery and insinuated that Claire was using it as an excuse to evade the entrance exams and slack off.

Desperate to prove otherwise, Claire went against medical advice and continued participating in running drills and physical training behind my back.

My hands shook uncontrollably as I read those shocking messages.

Claire’s father had passed away long ago, and I had raised her alone ever since. I treasured her and treated her like the most precious thing in my life.

Yet, the daughter I held so dearly had suffered such cruelty without my knowing.

Just as grief and fury overwhelmed me, my assistant called.

“Mrs. Stephens, something terrible has happened. The internet exploded with negative posts about you. Numerous clickbait accounts are stirring things up, accusing you of abusing your wealth and influence to storm into a school, intentionally ramming a teacher’s car, and even assaulting a teacher, all to defend your ill-behaved daughter.”

She sent me several links filled with slanderous posts while speaking. Each one had already gained over ten million views, and the comment sections were overflowing with insults directed at me.

“Also, Lydia did a livestream. She cried on camera and said that she came from a poor rural village and that she only wanted to teach students sincerely. She then claimed that you bullied her for simply disciplining her student. She also said that you threatened her safety and that she was presently too terrified to return to work. She’s begging you to spare her. Public opinion online is overwhelmingly against you right now. Everyone’s accusing you of abusing your power. Even our company’s official account is flooded with hate comments, and it’s already affecting business operations.”

Every word my assistant said made a chill spread deeper through me.

I never imagined Lydia could be this vicious. Even after clearly being in the wrong, she twisted the story, cast herself as the victim, and weaponized public opinion against Claire and me.

But even in my rage, I stayed rational and issued immediate instructions.

“Contact the legal department now. First, sue Lydia for fabricating facts and defaming my daughter and me. Second, preserve all evidence against the clickbait accounts and social media outlets that maliciously spread rumors and manipulate public opinion. Sue every single one of them. Third, hold the school accountable for management failure, for enabling a teacher to slander and insult a student on school grounds, and for obstructing parental access during an emergency. Pursue full responsibility immediately. I want everyone to know what happens when they touch my daughter!”

Oswald’s face went from pale to flushed as he tried once more to persuade me.“Mrs. Stephens, we truly know we were wrong. Please reconsider—”I interrupted him by shutting the door, cutting off any further words.Oswald and Herbert stood at the ward entrance, still holding the gifts, caught between going in and leaving. After several minutes of awkward silence, they finally sighed in resignation and left the hospital in defeat. The court concluded the trial shortly afterward and issued its ruling. It found that Lydia had defamed and insulted a minor and had deliberately obstructed emergency rescue efforts. The facts were clear, and the evidence left no doubt. The court ordered Lydia to issue a written apology to both Claire and me, publicly clarify the facts on a designated platform, and pay full compensation for all related damages, including medical expenses and emotional distress. It also entered her offense into her permanent record, leaving her with a lifelong criminal rec

“The damage you caused isn’t something you can erase by kneeling here and crying.”Lydia lifted her head. Her face was streaked with tears, and her eyes were hollow with despair.“I can compensate you. I can kneel before your daughter and apologize. I’ll agree to anything. Please, just withdraw the lawsuit. I can’t go to prison. I can’t have a criminal record. Please, I’m begging you.”I stood up and spoke with an icy tone.“I won’t withdraw the lawsuit, nor will I forgive you. This matter must be resolved through the law. My daughter deserves justice. Leave this room immediately. Don’t appear in front of us again and cause her further distress.”Lydia tried to speak, but I pressed the call button at the bedside. Two security guards quickly entered the room.“Remove her. She is not to be allowed back in here without my permission.”The security guards stepped forward and, ignoring Lydia’s cries and resistance, forcibly dragged her out of the room. She had barely regained her fo

“Third, Lydia Lawson alone shall bear all legal responsibility arising from her personal actions. The school assumes no related liability and will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities in thoroughly investigating and pursuing accountability for her unlawful conduct.”Once he finished reading, Herbert shoved the document toward Lydia as if a massive weight had been lifted off his shoulders, eager to distance himself from the situation.“This is the school’s final decision. There’s no room for negotiation. You brought this on yourself. It has nothing to do with the school or me.”Lydia’s legs buckled beneath her, and she collapsed onto the floor. But a few seconds later, she snapped back to her senses and scrambled to her feet in a frenzy.“No! I won’t accept this! Why should I be the only one punished? If the school hadn’t imposed impossible demands on me, insisting that I produce the top entrance exam scorer and push the advanced track class to a perfect high school admiss

In the school office, Herbert had just finished an accountability call from the local education authority. A signed supervisory notice sat on his desk as he paced around it, completely on edge. When he heard the door open, he looked up and saw Lydia rushing in. His anger flared instantly. “You still have the nerve to show up here?”Lydia’s hair was disheveled, and her makeup was ruined by tears. She stumbled in, collapsed in front of the desk, and broke down completely.“Mr. Walsh, please help me! Only you can help me!”Herbert gritted his teeth in fury and snapped, “So now you know how to come begging? Weren’t you full of confidence when you were spreading rumors online and dragging the school’s reputation through the mud?”Lydia’s panic deepened as she scrambled forward.“I didn’t mean it. I just wasn’t thinking clearly! “Mr. Walsh, you handled the mediation. You told me to apologize to her mother so that everything would be over! You also said that the advanced track class h

That night, my company’s legal department was fully staffed, with lights still on despite the late hour. The Head of Legal set a stack of documents on the table and addressed the team.“Split into three groups. Group One will secure and notarize all evidence related to Lydia Lawson’s defamation and obstruction of emergency rescue. Group Two will identify and track all rumor-spreading accounts online. No account is too small. Preserve all evidence and issue legal notices to each of them. Lastly, Group Three will prepare the litigation materials and pursue full accountability for all involved parties. Begin now. I expect full results within three hours.”The team immediately carried out every instruction in an orderly manner and carefully catalogued every piece of evidence.Meanwhile, Lydia continued livestreaming and speaking tearfully to viewers.“I honestly don’t know what I did wrong. I only wanted my students to focus on exam preparation. The high school entrance exams are only
