Ronan

The rink is already alive before we even step out. The sound of skates cutting against the ice from the earlier warm-ups lingers, the echo of sticks tapping and kids shouting in the stands carrying through the arena. I tighten my grip on my stick as I stand just off the bench with the rest of the Icewolves. My chest feels heavy, but I'm not nervous. It’s not even the tournament itself. It’s everything I’ve buried the last few weeks.

The Conference tournament starts tonight, and we came in as the number one seed. Everyone’s expecting us to dominate. Everyone’s looking at me to set the tone, to lead them. I can feel all those eyes, but I don’t let them see what’s under the surface.

“Alright boys, let’s make this count,” Coach Halford says, his voice firm but short, just how he always is. He doesn’t waste time with speeches. He never has. It’s always about the game plan. No comfort, no pep talks. Just hockey. And that’s fine. I don’t need comfort.

CallaThe sound of the TV fills the living room, even though I’m not really paying attention. Ava’s curled up on the other side of the couch with her legs tucked under her, scrolling through her phone like she’s not even aware there’s a game on. She only put the sports channel on because Blaire asked her to, not because she cares about hockey.“Silverthorn’s up by three already,” Blaire says with a dramatic sigh, her eyes glued to the screen. She’s leaning forward, elbows on her knees, hair falling around her face. “Their offense is ruthless. Look at Wyatt, he’s skating through them like he owns the rink.”I bite the inside of my cheek and keep my gaze on the screen, though it stings a little. I didn’t want to watch this game. Honestly, I didn’t want to watch any of them. When the Conference tournament started, I told myself I’d stay out of it. No cheering, no highlights, nothing. Because every time I see Ronan’s name scroll across the bottom ticker, it’s like my chest gets punched fr

  • A NERD FOR THE HOCKEY ALPHA   ~104 :Ronan Alone

RonanI am back on ice, with Casen doing most of the job in the pack as usual, only spending a few days in the crew house. The cold inside the rink settles in my bones the second I step out on the ice. It makes my fingers ache, but right now it feels right. Familiar. Almost like it’s the only thing that hasn’t changed. My blades scrape the surface as I circle around, the echo bouncing through the empty seats. Coach Halford is standing near the blue line, arms folded, his face hard like always. I needed strict practice after so many months off the game.I keep my eyes on the puck, stick tapping lightly as I guide it back and forth. My legs still feel heavy. I skate harder, the sound of my blades sharp and quick. Each lap I push faster, cutting harder into the corners until my thighs burn. The ache is good. It means I’m alive.“Keep your stride,” Halford says, not even raising his voice.“I’ve got it,” I mutter, pushing again.Sweat starts trickling down my neck, stinging against cold s

CallaI stare at the ceiling for the longest time before I even bother to get out of bed. It’s been weeks, maybe more, I’m not even sure anymore because the days blur together in this apartment. Classes, labs, the library, home, repeat. That’s my life now. No cheer squad, no parties, no pack drama, nothing that even resembles the version of me I was when I was with Ronan. I live like all of it was a fever dream, some wild fantasy I got caught in, and now I’m back to being just Calla again.Ava doesn’t ask too many questions, which I’m thankful for, because honestly I wouldn’t even know where to start. She’s human, she doesn’t know anything about werewolves, and I can’t exactly sit her down and say, “Hey, so I fell in love with an Alpha, we had this magical bond thing, and then I broke my own heart walking away from him.” Yeah, no. She just assumes I went through a messy breakup, which is close enough to the truth.I roll out of bed finally and drag myself toward the kitchen where Ava’

CallaI stare at him, my chest tightening as I finally understand what Ronan is actually considering. It doesn’t even need to be spoken out loud, because I see it in his eyes, in the way he avoids looking directly at me, in the way his jaw clenches like he’s holding back words that will only make things worse. The realization cuts deeper than I imagined it could, like someone just reached inside me and pulled something out without warning.“You’re really thinking about it,” I whisper, my voice trembling even though I try to steady it.Ronan doesn’t answer, not right away. He just stands there, silent, his fists tightening at his sides as though silence is safer than admitting anything. But his silence is already my answer, and it crushes me in a way I can’t put into words.I let out a shaky breath, laughing bitterly under my breath. “Wow. So that’s it? After everything, after all the things you’ve told me, you’re still considering it?” My voice rises slightly, not enough to yell, but

  • A NERD FOR THE HOCKEY ALPHA   ~101: Ronan’s Breaking Point

RonanThe pressure builds. I keep telling myself I can handle this, that I can balance it all, but it feels like I’m lying more to myself than anyone else. I tell Casen that if I marry Sasha, at least for appearances, then maybe I can keep Calla tucked away in the human city where no one would dare touch her. I tell myself it’s logical, the only path that doesn’t rip everything apart. But even as I say it, my chest feels like it’s going to cave in.Casen sits across from me, leaning forward like he’s trying to read past every excuse spilling out of my mouth. His arms rest on his knees, eyes sharp, unblinking. “You think you can actually pull that off?” he says, voice low. “Do you even hear yourself, Ronan? You sound like a lunatic. You can’t live in two worlds like that. You can’t keep Sasha happy enough to play Luna while you’re sneaking off to the human city to keep Calla in your bed. It won’t work. You’ll destroy both of them…and yourself in the process.”“I don’t have a choice,” I
