My eyes snapped open, mouth parted in awe of his boldness.

“Did I just hear you say ‘so what?’”

He shrugged. “Yes. I mean, you already knew I restricted my shifting abilities, yet you kept pushing me to that stupid shifting class.”

I watched him as he was saying all those things, the words falling out of his gutter like it was the most common thing on earth.

“Listen, Riven,” he said, taking a step closer. “I uhmm… I don't know what makes you look so worked up today, but this is my life.” He paused, pointing at the bottle.
