The world went black before Ryan could scream.

He’d just left the university library, his phone clutched in one hand, headphones in his ears, the quiet music doing little to soothe the unease in his chest.

He was about to text Chris that he was on his way back when a sharp sting jabbed the side of his neck.

And everything blurred.

He collapsed onto cold concrete, the last thing he saw a pair of expensive shoes stepping closer.

When Ryan woke, the first thing he felt was the roughness of rope cutting into his wrists.

His eyes flew open.

It wasn’t his dorm room. Not anywhere near campus.

He was tied to a chair in a dim, windowless room with cracked brick walls and one flickering light overhead. His ankles were bound to the legs of the chair,

his shoulders aching from the way his arms were pulled back and secured behind him. The air was musty. Old. Trapped.

Panic hit like a wave, sharp and paralyzing.

And then he heard the voice.

“I was starting to worry you’d sleep through it.”

Adrien.

Ryan woke up gasping. The room was still dark, though a faint strip of morning light had slipped through the curtains. His heart pounded in his chest like it wanted to escape his ribcage. Sweat clung to his skin, and the ghost of Adrien’s hands lingered on his body phantoms from a dream that had felt too real.He reached for the edge of the bed, needing something solid, and instead touched Daniel.Daniel stirred instantly. “Ryan?“I… I’m okay,” Ryan whispered, though his voice trembled and his eyes glistened with panic.Daniel sat up beside him, rubbing a hand over his back. “Nightmare?Ryan nodded. “I thought I was back there. With him.Daniel said nothing, only pulled him close again. Ryan went, willingly. He hated how safe Daniel made him feel because a part of him feared it would be stolen from him again.“I feel dirty, Ryan said suddenly. “Like I’m stained and no one can see it but me.“You’re not dirty,” Daniel replied quietly. “You’re hurt. And healing doesn’t make you any less

The ride was silent except for the sound of the wind outside and the quiet hum of tires skimming pavement. Inside the car, time felt suspended.Ryan didn’t speak. He sat curled against Daniel in the back seat, his head resting against his chest, fingers curled tightly into his hoodie like he was afraid Daniel might disappear if he let go. His breath came in shallow, irregular gasps. His skin was pale, eyes bloodshot, his lips raw where he’d chewed them numb.Chris kept glancing at them through the rearview mirror, his jaw clenched. “How far was that house?” he asked, his voice low. “That place was in the middle of nowhere.”“Too far,” Daniel muttered. “He planned this. Adrien didn’t just snap he’s been watching Ryan for a while.Ryan flinched at the name. His nails dug into Daniel’s shirt.“Hey,” Daniel whispered, tightening his hold. “It’s over. You’re safe now.”But Ryan didn’t believe that. Daniel could see it in the way his eyes flicked toward the windows, like Adrien might come

Ryan sat frozen for several heartbeats after Adrien left, his ears straining for any sound through the thick silence. He heard footsteps fade down the hallway. Then a door opened somewhere in the distance… and closed. Then nothing. He tested the ropes binding his wrists. They were tight, but Adrien had been rushing this time. In his breakdown, he hadn’t tied them with the same meticulous precision as before. The fibers dug into Ryan’s already raw skin, but they shifted. Slightly.Ryan gritted his teeth and twisted harder, ignoring the pain as the coarse rope scraped at his flesh. Move. Now.It felt like forever before one wrist slipped free. He yanked his hand loose with a low hiss of pain, then tore the remaining bindings from his other wrist and ankles. He stood slowly, his legs trembling with the rush of blood returning to his limbs. The room spun briefly, his head still pounding from where Adrien had struck him, but Ryan forced himself steady. This was his chance. If Adrien came b

Adrien’s patience finally snapped.Ryan’s refusal his thrashing, his snarled insults, his relentless resistance chipped away at the smooth mask Adrien wore like armor. The more Ryan fought, the more Adrien’s jaw tightened, his voice cracking like glass under pressure.“Stop it!” Adrien shouted, slamming his hands down on the arms of the chair so hard the wood cracked. “Why do you have to make this harder?”Ryan glared up at him, eyes blazing with hatred. “Because you’ll never own me.”Adrien’s hands shook. He grabbed Ryan by the shoulders, shaking him once, twice. “I’m trying to show you I love you!”“This isn’t love!” Ryan spat. The words cut deeper than Ryan realized. Adrien’s expression twisted, the desperation in his eyes hardening into something darker. He stepped back, running both hands through his hair as if he were trying to pull himself apart. “I don’t want to hurt you,” he whispered. “I swore I wouldn’t.”“Then let me go,” Ryan demanded.Adrien’s face contorted. “I can’t!”

Adrien wiped the blood from his lip with the back of his hand, his breathing heavy but controlled. Ryan’s chest rose and fell sharply as he strained against the ropes, every muscle in his body burning with adrenaline.“You just made this harder for yourself,” Adrien murmured, tilting his head like he was savoring Ryan’s defiance. “But I admire the fire. I’ll enjoy putting it out.”“Go to hell,” Ryan spat.Adrien leaned in close enough that Ryan could feel his warm breath brush his ear. “No, Ryan. You’re in hell. And I’m the only one who can take you out of it.”Ryan jerked his head away, but Adrien’s fingers dug into his jaw, holding him in place. He kissed Ryan’s cheek deliberately this time, slow and taunting, before pulling back with a look of quiet satisfaction.“You’ll stop fighting soon,” Adrien whispered, his hand trailing down Ryan’s chest toward the waistband of his jeans. “They all do.”Ryan’s stomach twisted violently. “They?”Adrien smiled, a cruel curve of his lips. “You’
