Chapter 2

مؤلف: Windwhisper
When I got there, Marissa and Cameron were busy instructing the staff on how to set up the venue.

Before I even got close, I heard Marissa say, "Cam, if Gwen finds out you're alive, will she crash our wedding? I'm a little scared. She is my friend of many years, after all."

Cameron pulled her into his arms and planted a kiss on the top of her head. He said calmly, "Don't worry. She wouldn't dare make a scene.

"Gwen's parents had no idea we were dating back then. Besides, her parents are both teachers. They care too much about their reputation to make a scene and embarrass themselves.

"You just focus on being the happiest, most beautiful bride. I'll handle everything."

He sounded so sure of himself, and every single word he said felt like a knife to my heart, leaving it bloody and torn.

"Gwen!"

Marissa was the first to notice me. Her face instantly turned pale.

She squirmed, trying to get out of Cameron's arms, but he just wrapped his arms around her tighter.

"So you came after all. You just can't let me go, can you?"

Cameron let out a sigh, looking annoyed, as if I were some clingy burden he simply couldn't shake off.

My heart throbbed with pain. I stayed silent but kept my gaze on him.

"Now you know that Marissa is the one I love. I've already made her wait for seven years. I don't want to do that to her anymore."

With that, he fixed me with a cold stare, his tone unmistakably threatening. "Gwen, don't make a scene. It won't end well for either of us if you do."

Right as he said that, my phone rang. It was my mom. The second I answered, her frantic voice blasted through the speaker.

"Gwendolyn Lockwood, are you the other woman in someone else's relationship? Your father has been hospitalized because of you! Get back here this instant!"

I hung up, turning to Cameron. The tears I'd been holding back finally spilled over. "Did you do this?"

Cameron arched a brow, his voice even as he said, "Gwen, I just don't want you ruining our wedding. As long as you behave yourself, I can clear things up with your parents."

Unable to listen to another word, I turned and sprinted toward the hospital. The second I walked into the hospital room, Mom slapped me hard across the face. "Look at what you've done, Gwendolyn! Your father and I have been utterly humiliated because of you."

She threw a thick stack of papers at me. Every page detailed how I had supposedly come between Cameron and Marissa, casting me as the other woman in their story.

The dull pain in my chest returned once more. I shook my head over and over, my voice cracking. "I'm not the other woman. Cameron and I got together first."

She slapped me again. "Stop lying! Cameron already told me everything. If you don't apologize to him in person, the Finch family won't lend us 500,000 dollars. That's the money needed to save your father's life!"

500,000 dollars? I bit down hard on my lip and said nothing.

Seeing this, Mom panicked. "What are you still hesitating for at a time like this? If you won't go, I will! I don't care if I have to throw away my dignity at my age. I'm going to get that money for your father!"

I dug my nails deep into my palms, though I couldn't feel a thing. "Fine. I'll go."

The moment I stepped out of the ward, my phone rang. It was Cameron.

His voice was still as gentle as ever, yet every word he said sent a chill down my spine.

"Gwen, when you're ready to behave, come apologize to Mari. As for the apology gift, you can just use that wedding dress you designed. Mari and I will be waiting for you at our new place."

The online backlash got so bad that the Finch family's company even made it into national news. With demands for a full investigation pouring in, Cameron suddenly had a lot on his plate.By the time the dust settled, all that was left was the news of the Finch family going bankrupt.I heard from friends that they were hit with over 70 million dollars in fines for tax evasion and were staring down lawsuits from over 5,000 victims.Their mansion and luxury cars were gone. They even lost the house right next door to ours. Once I heard about Cameron's downfall, I never paid attention to anything related to the Finch family again. That was, until Cameron appeared in front of me.The former golden boy was reduced to an everyday nobody overnight. The arrogance in his eyes was gone. All that remained was the haggard look of someone who had been through too much.Perhaps I had shed that youthful naivety, or I had completely stopped expecting anything from Cameron, but seeing him again mad

Julius and I were already at my parents' by the time Cameron caught up.Mom and Dad were still pissed, but since the matter was already set in stone, they reluctantly let us in.We were all sitting around talking and laughing when Cameron suddenly barged in. He looked embarrassed and awkward, but he spoke anyway."Gwen, have you seen what's going on online? If this is your way of punishing me, then you've already done it. I apologize, and I'll make it up to you."But the company is my mom's life's work. I'm begging you to consider how well she's treated you and say something online for us. I know you can't stand Marissa, so I'm willing to divorce her right this second. Would that be enough?"I checked online and saw that all the trending topics were about our love triangle.Cameron's name was sitting right at the number one spot, and the wrongdoings of the Finch family's company were exposed as well. A massive wave of victims was flooding the comment sections demanding justice.

I stopped beside the car and, upon hearing Cameron's words, slipped my arm through Julius'.I said coolly, "That's right. Not only are we together, but we're getting married. And for the record, he's not a thug. He's a thousand times more decent than you are."Two weeks later, the wedding officially kicked off. Wearing the gorgeous wedding dress Julius had picked out for me, I stood at the altar, looking out at all the guests.Only then did I realize that all the ex-classmates who had attended Cameron's wedding had come. When they saw Julius and me standing together, they started teasing us with big smiles."Dang, Julius! That hero act really won her heart, huh? I knew you guys would end up together, but I didn't expect you to move this fast.""I just realized that the two of you look perfect together. Julius, you'd better treat our Gwen right.""Yeah, Julius! If you mistreat her, we're going to kick your butt!"Hearing their playful, good-natured banter brought tears to my eyes

When I got back to the ward, Agnes had already left.Dad had a rare, dark look on his face, and Mom was just as cold. I didn't try to explain myself, nor did I say a word. After a long silence, Dad spoke first. "We've already agreed to Agnes' proposal for you. Don't even think about dating anyone else for the next few years. Just wait for Cameron to come to his senses."Your mother and I watched Cameron grow up. We know him well enough to be wrong about him."Even though I saw this coming, hearing Dad tell me to wait around for a guy like Cameron made my stomach churn. As I stared at them in disbelief, I asked in a trembling voice, "Dad, Mom, am I even your daughter? He literally stomped all over my dignity, and you're still taking his side?"There is zero chance of us ever getting back together. And besides, I'm getting married. The wedding is in two weeks."Dad pounded his chest in fury while pointing a finger at me with a frosty expression. "What nonsense! The only reason I'm

As the sharp sound of the slap rang out, everything in the room seemed to come to a sudden halt."That slap is for being an ungrateful, heartless bastard. When your mom brought you here with absolutely nothing, it was my family that gave you financial support and got you into school."Now that your family is doing well, you not only refuse to help when my father is critically ill, you're also using his condition to threaten me."I struck him again. "This one is for myself. We've known each other since we were kids. We have so many years of history, yet you stabbed me in the back for an outsider."Not only that, you want me to carry the label of 'homewrecker.' You ungrateful backstabber! Today, I'll make sure everyone sees who you really are."After making my way to the LED screen, I plugged the flash drive I had prepared straight into it.The massive screen lit up. It clearly displayed the exact timestamp of Cameron's confession to me, right alongside a timeline of when he and Ma

By the time I got there, almost all the guests had already taken their seats. There were Cameron's colleagues, our mutual high school ex-classmates, and even some of our old high school teachers. Upon realizing that I wasn't the bride, people kept glancing back and forth between us in shock. With my face feeling like it was on fire, I endured the humiliation and held up the train of the bride's dress. One of our bolder ex-classmates finally voiced what everyone was thinking."Cameron, I thought I was coming to your and Gwendolyn's wedding today. I guess I was mistaken."He laughed it off, but the others leaned in to listen. Even a few of the teachers were looking over. After all, back in high school, even though we hadn't officially dated, everyone assumed we would end up together. And yet now…My face flushed a deep, humiliating crimson.Cameron just smirked, acting like this was no big deal. "You must've gotten the wrong idea. I've always seen Gwen as a little sister. Back the
