Chapter 2 The Other Mrs. Whitmore

Penulis: Hunk Alert
Their cruel remarks reached my ears, but I felt strangely apathetic to it all.

Instead, I calmly pushed away the uniform Vanessa was holding out to me. "You don't need to worry about finding me a job."

I met her gaze without flinching. "I came tonight to celebrate your son's birthday, and nothing you've said has hurt me. All you've done is show everyone exactly how shallow and cruel you really are."

Vanessa's smile froze.

Clearly, she had never expected me to challenge her so openly after five years.

Her face flushed with rage.

"Who do you think you are, Gianna?" she snapped. "You're nothing but a housekeeper's daughter. How dare someone with your background lecture me!"

Her friends immediately crowded around her.

"Do you even know who Vanessa's husband is? He's Alexander Whitmore, the sole heir to Whitmore Holdings!"

My mind went blank. 'Alexander Whitmore? The heir to Whitmore Holdings? That's my husband.'

When they saw the color drain from my face, they assumed they had finally frightened me.

One of them smirked at me. "Scared yet? One word from Alexander could bring half of Crownmere to its knees."

Another woman scoffed in derision. "Vanessa is Mrs. Whitmore, the future lady of the Whitmore family. Who do you think you are to challenge her?

"If she asked her husband to find you a job cleaning bathrooms or working security, you should be thanking her on your knees. Yet, you still have the nerve to insult her?"

Another woman folded her arms. "You'd better apologize to Vanessa right now, Gianna. Otherwise, you'll regret it."

Just then, a commotion broke out near the ballroom entrance.

I looked up and saw my husband walking in with a baby boy in his arms.

Alexander wore a gentle smile as he cradled the child against his chest.

The sight nearly knocked the air from my lungs.

My husband had built a family with another woman during the five years I had spent fighting for my own survival.

The truth was staring me right in the face, and I couldn't deny it anymore. Suddenly, the ballroom felt as if it was tilting under my feet.

Alexander approached Vanessa and carefully placed the baby in her arms. "Easy. Don't tire yourself out."

The moment Vanessa saw him, tears filled her eyes. "Thank God, you're here."

She leaned into him, her voice trembling with practiced hurt. "I invited my old classmate to our son's first birthday party out of kindness. I even arranged a job as a server so she could earn some money.

"Instead of thanking me, she caused a scene. She accused me of being jealous and claimed I humiliated her for being a housekeeper's daughter."

Alexander wrapped an arm around her and gently rubbed her back. "You're too kind. Someone like her never belonged at an event like this in the first place.

"Next time, don't invite just anyone. What if some nobody frightens our son?"

His words turned my blood to ice.

I stared at the man I had loved for years.

"Alexander," I said, my voice carrying across the ballroom. "Why don't you tell them who I really am?"

He spun around.

The moment our eyes met, a look of pure panic flashed across his face.

As the completely deranged Alexander and the ashen-faced Vanessa were taken away by the police. Meanwhile, the once-arrogant guests stood in utter silence, not daring to make a sound. That was especially so when it came to the socialites who had dared to lay their hands on me and tear my clothes earlier. They were so terrified that their legs had gone weak, and they could barely remain standing.Richard's cold gaze swept slowly across them. His voice wasn't loud, but it carried an overwhelming weight. "Who else attacked my daughter just now?"Soon, several dull thuds echoed across the hall. Those women had dropped to their knees in unison, crying as they begged for mercy."Mr. Whitmore, please spare us! Ms. Lott, please forgive us! We were wrong! We were blind to have failed to recognize who you really were!""Vanessa deceived us! Please, spare us!""We're willing to compensate for any amount. Just name it!"I looked at their tearful, pathetic display and felt nothing but irony

Vanessa now looked like a complete lunatic. Her hair was disheveled, and her expression deranged as she let out a piercing scream. She stared obsessively at the marriage certificate that had just been declared fake, as if she could burn a hole through it with her eyes."This one is real! Alexander and I got married six years ago! It's Gianna Lott's fault! She stole my identity! That wretched bitch!"She lunged at me like a madwoman, but the police restrained her firmly. The guests all took a huge step back, afraid of getting caught up in the chaos. As for the socialites and wealthy women who had just joined Vanessa in humiliating me, their faces turned deathly pale. They looked like they wished they could disappear into the ground. None of them had imagined that the "Mrs. Whitmore" they had tried so hard to flatter was nothing more than a fraud with a fake certificate, while the "housekeeper's daughter" they had trampled on was the true heiress of the Whitmore family."Alexander

The atmosphere in the banquet hall, already suffocatingly silent, grew even heavier. It became so oppressive that it felt as though even breathing was a crime. The guests didn't dare make a peep. Instead, they shrank into themselves, wishing they could melt into the background entirely. The moment Alexander saw Richard, the last trace of color drained from his face. His body trembled uncontrollably. "Dad…" he called instinctively, his voice dry and rasping.Sadly for him, Richard didn't even spare him a glance. He strode through the crowd and stopped right in front of me.The fury in his eyes burned fiercely, but it melted into something unbearably heavy when he looked at me. It was a look filled with pain and guilt. "Gianna… I'm so sorry… I came too late." His voice was hoarse, softer than I had ever heard it in my life.I looked at the imposing man before me. The tears I had held back all night finally broke free. "Dad…" I choked out.Richard's eyes reddened instantly. He turne

"The one who ruined the Whitmore family wasn't me. It was you." I finally spoke. My voice wasn't loud, but it carried clearly through the deathly silent banquet hall.I met Alexander's bloodshot eyes with calm composure. "Alexander, do you remember how you video-called me in the last five years?"His eyes widened in panic.I continued, "You called me almost every day. The background was always the bedroom of our marital home. But Douglas said you hadn't been back there for months. I can't help but wonder… How did you manage that? "Did you use a virtual background, or… did you already have another identical room prepared just to deceive me?"The color drained completely from Alexander's face. His lips moved, but no words came out.The crowd erupted again."So, that's what happened! The marriage certificate was fake. Talk about terrifying!""He kept up the act for five years! He's been playing the devoted husband while having a child with another woman. He's practically an award

"Yes, ma'am!" Kingston responded. Shortly, two tall, powerfully built guards immediately stepped forward to seize Vanessa, pinning her arms as she screamed and struggled against their grip.Vanessa turned to Alexander in terror, her voice shrill with desperation. "Alexander! Help! Save me! I'm still holding your son!"Alexander snapped out of it and rushed forward to stop them. "Mom! No! Vanessa—she…""Get out of the way!" Michelle didn't even look at him as she continued barking out orders. "Anyone who dares to interfere is an enemy of the Whitmore family. Do it. Hit her, and make it hard!"I stood under my mother's protection, watching the complete reversal of the situation unfold before my eyes. The humiliation and pain I had endured for so long had finally found an outlet. The sharp crack of slaps echoed continuously through the banquet hall. Vanessa's cheeks swelled visibly, reddening at an alarming rate. Soon, blood began to seep from the corners of her mouth. Her screams g

Everyone immediately turned to the source of the sound. Soon, they saw a dignified and elegantly dressed woman striding quickly toward them. She was none other than Michelle Hartwell, the chairman's wife of Whitmore Holdings and Alexander's mother.Alexander hurried forward to greet her. "Mom, why didn't you tell me you were coming? I would've picked you up."Vanessa quickly followed, holding the child in her arms, her face blooming with a flattering smile as she called out sweetly, "Mrs. Whitmore."Michelle's arrival stirred excitement throughout the banquet hall."It looks like Old Mrs. Whitmore is very pleased with Vanessa as her daughter-in-law. She even came in person for her grandson's first birthday party.""Well, of course. Vanessa bore the Whitmores their first grandson. Her position as the future mistress of the family is secure."Vanessa straightened her back further amid the envious chatter, lifting the child slightly toward Michelle with anticipation written all ove
