Noah’s POV:

“How could she fucking say that to me?! And because of him !? He just showed up out of nowhere! Fuck!” I hit the steering wheel once again with full force.

Stacey’s voice still flooded my head: “Whatever it is we have is not supposed to happen.”

So basically I was just dumb. Why on earth would I think she could possibly love me? I knew she wouldn’t see past the whole older-than-me thing, but to be honest, I didn’t care about all of that! I loved her despite… no, I loved her regardless, but it seems like I was just fooling myself.

I finally parked in our driveway, stepping out. I slammed the car door behind me, the cool night air doing nothing to ease the pain in my chest.

Every part of me felt like I was walking through a maze. My head was spinning, and Stacey’s words replayed over and over, like a fucking broken record.

“Whatever it is we have is not supposed to happen…”

Those words. I couldn’t shake them. Couldn’t escape how they had carved through everything I’d been

  • A Yearning Beyond Years   Chapter Twenty Eight

Stacey’s POV:Another school meeting is the last thing I need right now. I groaned at myself in the meeting room. Who constantly has joy from constantly calling his workers for a meeting? I looked up to see Michael walking through the door. I didn’t know whether to run or hide or just disappear if I could. After that conversation that day, I've kind of been avoiding him.He walked up and sat next to me, and my entire body felt heavy. There wasn't anywhere to run now in this room. “Hey, Stacey,” he greeted in his deep voice.I cleared my throat. “Hi, Michael,” I replied awkwardly. He faced me fully. “Can we talk?” My body tensed, but I knew I couldn't avoid this conversation anymore. I nodded gently, signaling that he could talk.Michael shifted in his seat, his fingers fidgeting with the corner of his notepad. He looked like he was searching for the right words, and for a moment, I thought he might back out of saying anything at all.“I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” he finally sa

Stacey’s POV:“I’m telling you, the best flavor has to be chocolate,” Michael said, taking a full spoonful of another ice cream. We were in the teacher’s lounge on our break, and I made the mistake of telling him that strawberry ice cream is the best flavor out there, and now I can’t get a break. “Fine, fine, let's agree to disagree.” I finally pleaded. “Okay, fine,” he said, focusing back on his ice cream.I couldn’t help but feel weird ever since the conversation with Noah. I agree I was too harsh on him; he didn’t deserve that, especially not after all he did for me for Tessa.I took a deep breath, and I think Michael noticed because he instantly asked. “Is everything okay?” His voice broke me out of my trance.“Huh?… Yeah, everything is good,” I quickly blurted. “Oh, okay, if you say so… Uhm, anyway, I was wondering…” He began, “When would you be free to go on a date with me?”Fuck!“ A… date?” I repeated, unsure if I heard him right. I didn't know what to say or even how to pr

Stacey’s POV:“Tessa, stop running around, please; don’t hurt yourself.” I shouted at the hyperactive little creature.“It’s kind of your fault for giving her too much sugar.” Chloe added as she sipped her coffee from the counter. “I couldn’t help it; she was so adorable,” I added. “And let me guess, you couldn’t say no?” I sighed in defeat. “No, I couldn’t.” It was the weekend, and we were just enjoying some family time, which now turned out to be a hunt for Tessa, who took too much sugar. She could barely stay in one place, and she was just making me run around the house.“Tessa, if I wanted to run, I would’ve gone to the gym.” I started catching my breath, which earned me a laugh from Chloe.“You know you could help.” I added “Yeah, but I don’t want to.” She smiled, sipping some more tea.“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”“Yes, yes, I am.” Just then my phone’s notification buzzed. I quickly grabbed it, replying to the message with a smile on my face, which Chloe noticed. “W

Stacey’s POV:Michael and I have been hanging around together for the past few days now, and to be honest, it has been nothing short of amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve had a mature conversation with anyone other than Chloe; it was actually really nice. I had dropped Tessa off at school and headed to work. I was already running late, and I knew Principal Clark would throw a fit.I parked and stepped inside the college building, my heart threatening to come out of my chest.I peeked through my office door, expecting to see Principal Clark, but instead was met with Michael.“Michael?” I started walking in my office. “Oh, hey, you’re finally here.”I dropped my bag, now seated opposite to him. “Yeah, I had to drop off Tessa.” “Oh, how’s my little cupcake?” He cheesed. I smiled a bit. “She’s okay.” My eyes popped to the door and back to him.“Have you seen Principal Clark?”He quickly answered. “Oh yeah, I saw Principal Clark waiting for you, so I told him you were in the bathroom

  • A Yearning Beyond Years   Chapter Twenty Three

Stacey’s POV:Another boring-ass meeting. What did I do to deserve this? You chose this career. It comes with the job.I hated these meetings; it’s always something about not getting paid enough or us lecturers just happening to be doing something wrong. It’s always that, so might as well get it over with. The principal was a bit late, so we have been waiting for the past 20 min.I glanced at the clock again. Time hadn’t moved. How is that even possible? Maybe you slipped into some kind of purgatory.Just as I considered walking out and faking a migraine or just plain old sickness, the door finally swung open with the dramatic flair only Principal Clarke could manage. He’s so dramatic. His tie was slightly askew, his forehead glistening like he’d jogged from the car park. “Apologies for the delay,” he said, trying to sound breezy. “Bit of a hold-up this morning, am I right?” He got no reply, so he just continued. “Let’s get right into it, shall we?”I sighed and sat up, more out o
