LOGINSarah's pov.
My eyes flickered open in unfamiliar surroundings. My senses slowly sharpened as I blinked profusely, properly regaining consciousness. "Thank God, you're up." "Ah!" I yelled in surprise as I heard and found a strange man beside me, panic and fear rushing through my veins. Looking around, I took in the surroundings. I was in a car while the man was sitting in the driver's seat, looking at me...worriedly. I was instantly sober. I sat up abruptly, my heart pounding non-stop, and my voice trembled as I spoke, "Who...are you? Where are you t-taking me?" "Relax, please don't be scared," He assured me, and surprisingly, I didn't sense any harmful intent coming from him, which eased my mind and heart a bit. "I'm Evan, Beta of Pack Nightfang. You might not remember me, but I was with Hunter when you two met at the Moonlight Ridge Pack. And I know that our future Alpha has finally found his mate. I know it might be confusing, but I assure you, everything will make sense soon," he said, his worried expression softening as he introduced himself. I felt afraid to even speak to him after knowing what pack he was from. This strange man had a strong earthy scent that wafted toward me with each breath he took, a scent must be related to nature. I studied his face. He appeared to be in his late twenties, with deep brown hair and a well-balanced layer of stubble on his jaw. He had a firm and strong presence, clearly capable of his role as a Beta in his pack. However, his happiness upon finding out that I was Hunter's mate confused me. It is strange in a way. The mere thought of Hunter made my stomach churn with pain. Hunter had rejected me as his mate, so why was this guy acting as if we were still connected? My voice wobbled as I asked, "But he r-rejected me. What are you doing here, and why are you so happy? On top of that, where are you taking me?" He smiled gently, warmth filling his eyes, and I noticed a subtle twitch at the corner of his lips. He looked genuinely happy, which I couldn't comprehend. What was so funny that I couldn't see? "The rejection doesn't count because he couldn't finish his vow." "Wh-what?" My brows furrowed in confusion. "Yes, so don't be sad. Sarah, is it?" He asked calmly as the car continued on its journey. "But was that your plan to deal with his rejection? Pretending to faint or something, I mean," He laughed with a bright and cheerful voice. "That worked just fine, so congratulations." I glared at his absurd words. "No, it wasn't my plan. I genuinely fainted," I told him, speechless at his question. "Can you take me back to my...pack?" He didn't speak for a while, and the car didn't stop, instead, it picked up speed along the road. His silence began to scare me. I glanced out of the window, noticing that it was getting dark. The thought of jumping from the car briefly crossed my mind, but I abandoned it when I saw how fast the vehicle was moving. However, I didn't know where he was taking me, so that seemed like my only option. I looked at him to give him one final warning, but before I could speak, he interrupted. "You better not go back to your pack," he said finally, glancing at me with a thoughtful expression. I didn't like the sound of his words, but he continued anyway. "You should consider what awaits you back at your home after being rejected by your mate. You're an omega, it won't be easy for you. And your mate is not just any ordinary person, he's Hunter Silver." My face slumped at those hurtful words. The pain and loneliness were already overwhelming, but now I also had to live with a rejected tag and a broken heart. As if sensing my distress, Evan reached out and patted my shoulder comfortingly. "But don't worry. We're heading to Pack Nightfang, and I believe that once Hunter gets to know you better, he'll come to accept you under the influence of the mate bond. You just need to be strong." Touched by his kindness and support, I felt a small whiff of hope, even though I felt ashamed to admit that I might not be as strong as he hoped. I was also uncertain about accepting Hunter as my mate, considering how he had shown no hesitation in rejecting me in front of so many people. "Does Hunter know that I'm going to Pack Nightfang? What if he doesn't want me?" I asked nervously. Evan didn't reply immediately and just sighed. "You know he'll come around, the mate bond has a way of working things out. Just have faith." "That's not what I asked. I asked if he knew that I was coming to his pack," I pressed, my heart already heavy with trepidation. "No, he doesn't. But don't worry, we'll meet his father, Alpha Bryce, first. He's a caring leader." So, it was his father who had asked Evan to bring me, not Hunter himself. That revelation left me feeling even more upset. I didn't know whether to feel hurt or disappointed at first. However, this Beta was right. I had no place to go, no home to call my own. I wasn't welcomed anywhere. "I know this is difficult for you, but sometimes things don't have to make sense. We've got to do what we've got to do. So, just come with us. Alpha Bryce cares deeply for his son and believes that bringing you here is the right decision." The car continued its journey while I was unaware of my destination. I wanted to trust his words, but it's hard when I'm aware of my bad fate. Suddenly, I remembered the indifference and cold eyes of my mate, they appeared as if they would pierce through my wound and bleed me until I died. Do I have to suffer his indifference for a life-long if I go to pack Nightfang? I prefer dying over that. "Stop the car!" I yelled, finally making my decision. It's too much to bear, I don't deserve all this pain and torment. "What?! No, we're almost there–" "I said stop the car. I can't do this! I don't want to go there!" I cried out, my pulses throbbing and every corner of my body crying out for my mate. But he doesn't want me! He doesn't want us! Raven, she didn't even get to see or meet her mate. I don't want someone so cruel to be our mate. "Hey, listen to me! You're sick right now. Think about it with a cool mind," Evan tried to comfort me but I was too lost to hear anything. "No!" I panted heavily. When he didn't listen, I leaned toward the window with tears in my eyes. "I mean it. I'll jump if you don't stop the car!" "Alright, don't jump please," He quickly pulled the car to the side of the road, worry and pity visible in his eyes as he turned to me. "Sarah, please don't do anything rash. Let's talk this through. You can't go back right now, we have come a long way." I got out without responding to him, I don't have the face to confront Hunter. The car stood on a lonely, forested road. The cold breeze hits me, making me shiver. My hands trembled as I clutched my chest, my knuckles white with tension and pain. "Sarah? Stop and get back into the car." I cried desperately. No, I can't go on like this, not knowing where I stand in life. It's tearing me apart. Without thinking, I ran into the forest, leaving his calls behind me. My breaths ragged as I pushed through the underbrush, without any thought of where I was heading to. But I couldn't stop, I just wanted to run. Run from life, from my mate, and from everything. "Sarah, we should go back. It's scary here," Raven worriedly said. "We have come so deep into the forest." But I ignored her. Her voice made me frustrated. Why does she have to be so weak, and why do I have to be so feeble? Our mate would have accepted us if we weren't so pathetic! "Don't think like that Sarah. It's not your fault." "How is it not my fault?! I am weak! They're right, I don't deserve a mate like Hunter. I should just die! Why didn't my mother take me with her?! Why?!" I stopped running and fell on the muddy ground while choking sobs continued to leave me. But that stopped when a group of rogue wolves emerged from the shadows. Their sharp canines and loud growls stopped my breathing. Their eyes gleamed maliciously. I shrank in fear when they circled around me and began to slowly trudge toward me. I gulped the thick lump while my heart hammered fast. I froze on the ground, unable to move or run. "Argh!!!" I yelled loudly as I watched one of them jump on me with wide eyes, but before it could reach me, a sudden commotion erupted from the darkness, and the wolf was thrown to the other side. A massive, silver-furred wolf, who saved me, its eyes blazing intensely, charged at the rogues. Its powerful jaws and sharp claws made fast attacks on the rouges, sending them fleeing into the ground with yelps of pain. One by one he took everyone down. I watched in stunned silence as the silver wolf turned its gaze toward me once the rogues ran away to save their lives. It approached me slowly while I was still frozen and scared, and glued to the ground. Its movements were deliberate, and as it drew near, a similar scent hit me. Breathing heavily, I could only manage a whisper, "Hunter?"The night didn’t bring peace. It never did.I didn’t realize when I fell asleep again.Or if I ever really did.Because the bond didn’t rest.It never quieted completely—it only dimmed, like something waiting beneath the surface, patient and watchful. And sometime deep into the night…It pulled.Hard.My eyes snapped open.Darkness.Cold.And something else—Him.Not physically. But close.Too close. My breath hitched as I sat up slowly, the sheets tangling around my legs. The room was silent, the faint glow of moonlight slipping through the curtains, painting everything in silver and shadow. But the bond—It wasn’t quiet anymore. It was restless.Unstable.He’s awake, Raven said immediately, her voice tense.“I know,” I whispered. But this wasn’t just awareness. This was… agitation. It crawled under my skin, sharp and suffocating, like something clawing to get out.“What is he doing…?” I murmured.Raven didn’t answer right away. And that scared me more than anything.Because Raven al
The rest of the morning passed in a strange, uneasy quiet.I stayed in the dining hall long after Hunter left, staring at the half-eaten food on my plate and trying to make sense of everything that had just happened. The bond still hummed in my chest, but it felt… different now. Less like a storm and more like a steady, unrelenting tide. I could feel him somewhere in the mansion, restless and pacing, the same way I had the night before. The connection between us had changed. Not softer—never softer—but more honest. Raw. Exposed.Adrian didn’t return.I was grateful for that.I wasn’t ready to face whatever game he was playing, whatever warning he thought he was giving. The way he’d looked at me—like I was both a curiosity and a threat—made my skin crawl. And the way he’d spoken about Hunter, about what the bond might do to me… it had planted a seed of doubt I couldn’t shake.*He’s not wrong,* Raven said quietly.“I know.”*But he’s not right either.*I sighed, pushing my chair back an
Sarah's POV The silence after that felt… different. Not empty. Not tense in the same explosive way as before. But heavy.Like something had shifted between us, quietly, dangerously, without either of us fully understanding what it meant.I forced myself to eat.Slowly at first—small bites, mechanical, just to prove a point. But the more I ate, the more I realized how hungry I actually was. The food settled something restless inside me, grounding me just enough to think clearly again.Hunter didn’t sit back down immediately. He stayed by the window, arms crossed, staring out like he was trying to keep himself together by sheer force of will.Or maybe trying to stay away from me.The bond didn’t like that.It stretched.Pulled.A quiet, constant pressure in my chest that made it hard to ignore him even when I wanted to.Raven stirred.*He’s distancing himself on purpose.*“I can feel that,” I muttered under my breath.Hunter’s shoulders stiffened.Of course he heard. He always did.Aft
“Breakfast?” he suggested, as if nothing had happened.“I’m not hungry,” I said.“You are,” Hunter said again.I crossed my arms.“You don’t get to decide that.”“No,” he agreed. “But the bond does.”My stomach twisted. And right on cue—It growled.Loudly.Adrian burst out laughing.“Oh, that’s perfect.”Heat rushed to my face.“I hate both of you.”“That’s fair,” Adrian said easily.Hunter just looked… satisfied.Which somehow made it worse.“Come on,” he said, already turning toward the dining hall. “Eat something. Then you can go back to pretending you don’t need anyone.”I hesitated.Every instinct told me to walk away.To put distance between us.To breathe. But the bond—It pulled. Not forcefully. Not painfully. But persistently.Like a quiet voice reminding me that running wouldn’t change anything.Raven sighed softly.*You can’t avoid this forever.*“I know,” I whispered. And with that—I followed them.Back into the heart of the mansion.Back into the storm.—The dining hal
Sarah's POV The moment we stepped back inside the mansion, the air changed. It always did.Outside, everything had felt… distant. Manageable. Like the world had softened just enough to let me breathe. But here—Everything sharpened again. The bond. The tension.Him.The grand doors shut behind us with a low, echoing thud that seemed to seal something in place. My chest tightened instinctively, like my body already knew there was no escaping whatever this was.Hunter didn’t look at me as we walked. But I could feel him.Every step.Every breath.Every flicker of control he was forcing onto himself.Raven shifted uneasily.*He’s holding back again.*“I can feel it,” I murmured under my breath.Hunter’s head tilted slightly, just enough to show he heard me.“Good,” he said quietly. “Then you’ll know when to stay out of my way.”I stopped walking.“So that’s it?” I snapped. “We have one almost-normal conversation, and now we’re back to this?”Hunter stopped too.Slowly, he turned to face
The stillness didn’t last.It never really did in a place like this.Even when everything looked calm on the surface—sunlight spilling through the trees, birds singing like nothing in the world was broken—there was always something underneath. Something shifting. Waiting.I felt it before I heard him.The bond tightened. Not painfully. But sharply enough that my breath caught in my throat.Raven stirred instantly. He’s close. My fingers curled into the fabric of my sweater as I sat up straighter on the bench, my spine going rigid. My pulse picked up, each beat echoing too loudly in my ears.“I know,” I whispered. And then—Footsteps.Slow.Measured.Heavy enough to belong to someone who didn’t bother hiding their presence.Hunter.Of course it was him.I didn’t turn immediately. I couldn’t. Something inside me resisted—the memory of last night still too fresh, too raw. His rage. The way his hands had tightened around the beta’s throat. The darkness in his eyes. And then the way he had
Hunter didn’t respond immediately. Didn’t introduce me. Didn’t even look at me, his gaze fixed somewhere over her shoulder like I was furniture. Instead, his hand came down on my lower back.Firm.Claiming.The touch was possessive, heavy, his palm splaying wide to press me closer against him until

The pain was sharp, grounding, but it only made the bond pull tighter, pulling me closer across the seat until our knees brushed. His voice was low, almost intimate, but the cruelty was there in every syllable. “Because I don’t want this. I don’t want a bond controlling me like some pathetic pup. I
Sarah's POV The night air hit me the moment I stepped outside the grand entrance, cool and razor-sharp against my flushed cheeks, carrying the faint metallic tang of rain that had been threatening since dusk. It sliced through the heavy silence of the mansion’s interior like a blade, chasing away
