The question seemed to wound him. His jaw tightened, but his reply came calmly, his tone steady. “You just look like someone I knew.”

Something about the way he said it made me hesitate. There was sadness there. Longing, even.

“Oh,” I said awkwardly, offering a polite smile. “I get that a lot, I think.”

He didn’t answer, just watched me for a moment longer before giving a tight nod. “Sorry to bother you.”

He turned slightly as if to leave, and yet for a fleeting second, I felt something tug deep inside me, something I didn’t understand. Like I should know him. As if I’d seen those eyes somewhere before and felt those hands before.

But that was impossible.

“Wait,” I started, but the words died in my throat. What would I even say?

He was already walking away, his tall frame disappearing into the crowd.

I stood there, frozen, the noise of the market dulling around me. My chest ached in a strange, unfamiliar way. My palms felt cold.

The dreams always started the same way in soft, blurred and warm tones.I could feel the heat before I saw anything, the weight of someone’s breath mingling with mine, the soft murmur of my name… spoken like a prayer.Every time, it felt so real. His voice was deep, rough, and full of something I couldn’t name. When he said my name, it made my chest tighten. It wasn’t just a name. It was a plea. Then came the touch.A calloused hand brushing down my cheek. Strong fingers trailing along my collarbone. His scent always surrounded me, something dark and addictive, like rain and smoke. My body reacted before I could think, arching toward him, craving more of the touch I knew too well and not at all.But I never saw his face. The room was always dim, lit by flickering shadows that danced along the walls. His features remained hidden but I could always make out broad shoulders, steady eyes and lips that hovered just above mine until they finally met.Every kiss left me trembling. When his m

(Emma’s POV)The first thing I heard was water. It wasn’t the river this time or the violent rush that had swallowed me whole but a steady, mechanical trickle echoing through the stillness. I could hear a small drip, then a beep. Then another beep.My throat felt dry, my chest heavy. When I tried to open my eyes, the light stabbed at my vision like a blade.Where am I?The ceiling above me was a plain white. I turned my head slightly and pain shot through my neck. A faint groan escaped my lips before I could stop it.That sound drew movement from outside and a door opened, and footsteps hurried closer.“Oh, thank God,” a voice gasped softly. A woman, older, trembling with relief. “You’re awake.”I blinked again, trying to focus. The woman came into view as she moved closer. She had silver hair, kind eyes creased at the corners, worry etched deep into her features.“Who…” I croaked, the word scraping painfully out of my throat. The woman’s hand trembled as she reached out and brushed m

I hadn’t slept well in weeks, but last night was worse.Even in dreams, she haunted me.It started the same way. The city bathed in the soft amber light of dusk, a crowd moving around me, the sound of my own heartbeat too loud in my ears. Then, there she was across the street. Still as a memory. Her hair catching the wind, the same way it used to.I called her name and this time, she heard me.But instead of smiling, she turned. Her eyes were full of something I couldn’t name. Fear. Then she ran.I jolted awake, breath ragged, sheets tangled around me. For a moment, I didn’t know where I was, if I was still dreaming. The echo of her name tore out of me again and my pulse pounded in my throat. The red digits on my clock blinked: 5:30 a.m.I lay there, staring at the ceiling, my chest rising and falling in an uneven rhythm. The dream lingered and was vivid enough to sting, real enough to make me question everything. That wasn’t how it had happened the other day. She hadn’t run. The traf

  • A private deal with the billionaire ceo   CHAPTER 102

The day had been too bright for my liking. The kind of day where the sunlight seemed to mock you. It was so warm and too golden. Abel had convinced me that we needed a break from the grind, a “normal” day, whatever that meant anymore. So now, I found myself on the sprawling green of the golf range just outside the city, with Abel, Alice, and Ruby. The sky was pale and endless, the faint hum of cicadas blended with laughter from nearby players. Alice’s voice carried lightly across the breeze as she teased Abel for missing another swing. Ruby leaned back against the wooden bench, sipping lemonade, her eyes twinkling with amusement.I stood a few feet away, half-watching, half-lost in my own thoughts. I had to admit… This was nice. The sound of Abel swearing under his breath, the girls laughing. It was the kind of joy I hadn’t felt in a long time.“Still better than last time,” I said dryly, smirking when Abel straightened and threw me a mock glare.“You’d think being a commander means I

The boardroom was suffocating.A dozen suits sat around the long obsidian table, each man and woman looking far too eager to prove their worth. The projector hummed softly as another graph flickered onto the wall with percentages, profit margins, and a slide labeled “Manufacturing Solutions: Food Sector Division.”I adjusted my tie and leaned back in my chair with a neutral expression and my mind elsewhere.Ever since the company expanded its reach into multiple sectors like construction, technology, energy, and now food produce, the workload had tripled. And while Reeve Enterprises thrived on dominance, I was beginning to realize that success came with its own brand of headaches. The presenter was a middle-aged man with thinning hair and an unfortunate enthusiasm for charts. I watched unimpressed as tapped his pointer against the screen.“As you can see, sir, the biggest setback we face lies in the inefficiency of the manufacturing process. Now, if we focus on producing attainable go
