GABRIELLE’S POV

He walked toward me slowly.

“You really don’t know how to mind your business, do you?” he said, plucking the photo from my fingers before I could even hide it.

My breath hitched. “Why do you have that? Damon, why—”

He held up a hand, silencing me instantly. “You shouldn’t ask questions about things that don’t concern you.”

“It’s a picture of me—”

“And that,” he said, sliding the photo back into the envelope, “is why you should be more careful about the doors you open. You never know what you’ll find.”

My stomach tightened. “So you’re not going to explain?”

“I’m not obligated to,” he murmured, stepping close enough that his chest brushed mine. “And you’re not ready for the answer.”

I swallowed. “Damon—”

“You were snooping again,” he said flatly. “I warned you about that. How do you punish you for disobeying?”

Punish me?

My chest tightened.

“Why do you have a picture of me from years ago?” I demanded. “How did you know my name that night?”

  • ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD   CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

GABRIELLE’S POV I blinked, caught off guard by his words. “Punish me?” “For snooping,” he said, walking closer slowly. “You can always walk out and pretend you never saw this room.” My throat ran dry. “Damon… I…” He stopped in his tracks. “I told you I was too dark for you. You should leave.” He walked back to the door and entered a code. The door slid open instantly. I stood there, my heart thudding wildly and my palm, sweaty. I wasn’t scared of him, I was just… surprised. And curious. I walked to the door but paused and turned to him. Before he could utter another word I stood on my toes, pulled him down by his shirt, and kissed him hard. His eyes widened for only a second before kissing me back. He shut the door and lifted me in his arms, my legs wrapping around his waist instinctively. He pressed me against the nearest wall, his breath heavy against my lips as he held me there. His hands slid down my thighs and he lowered me to the ground slowly, his han

  • ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD   CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

GABRIELLE’S POV No. No. “Heaven?” I asked, a frown tightening my entire face. “Did you kill my sister, Damon?” He didn’t respond. He poured maple syrup over the pancakes and acted like I hadn’t spoken. Like I hadn’t just asked him the one question that could break me in half. The heat in my chest climbed until I felt it in my throat. “Damon?” My voice shook harder this time. He finally looked up with that cold and unreadable stillness that made my stomach twist. He set the fork down. “Why would you think I killed her?” he asked softly. “Because you’re avoiding the question,” I said. “And you told me I wouldn’t have a sister again. And you shot her.” My hands balled so tight my nails dug in. “So tell me the truth. Where is she?” He studied me for a moment, then breathed out. “I said heaven,” he murmured. “Because that’s what she got compared to what she deserved.” I blinked. “What?” “She’s not dead because that would hurt you,” he said, his expression c

  • ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD   CHAPTER FORTY

GABRIELLE’S POV The sound echoed in the room, muffling my hearing for a few seconds. My ear rang. The echo of the shot still vibrated in my chest. My hands shook, my knees threatening to give out under me. But when I opened my eyes, Emily was lying on the floor and Damon was standing behind her, gun in hand. “Emily?” I whispered, my voice breaking. He just stared down at her, his gun still raised, and his jaw tight and unreadable. I wanted to move to check her pulse, but my body refused to move. My eyes darted to the hollow in her shoulder blade. There was… blood. I gasped. “Damon!” I screamed, finally breaking free of my frozen fear. “What did you do?” He slowly lowered the gun, his expression calm. “She’s fine,” he said, casually. “For now. Call the ambulance in time and she might survive. There’s a hospital a few blocks from here.” Emily’s eyes were slightly open, staring up at me but her body was limp and she was barely breathing. I scrambled to pic

GABRIELLE’S POV My hand fell from the door handle. My heartbeat was so loud I thought she could hear it. “Emily?” My voice barely came out. She stepped inside without waiting for permission, brushing past me like she couldn’t stand the sight of me. “Surprised?” she asked, tilting her head. “You didn’t think I’d just let you disappear?” I blinked at her. “What are you doing here?” Her gaze flicked to the elevator behind me. “Take me upstairs. Now. We need to talk.” My fingers twitched beside my thigh. I wanted to close the door. I wanted to grab her by the arm and throw her out. But all I could do was stand there and stare at her. My sister. The one person whom I had put before anyone else. Including myself. “Didn’t you hear me? Take me upstairs,” she repeated, stepping closer. “We need to talk.” I didn’t move. Her jaw tightened. “Don’t make this hard, Gabby. Don’t fucking push me.” I swallowed and turned toward the elevator. She followed right behind

  • ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD   CHAPTER THIRTY- EIGHT

GABRIELLE’S POV Anya raised her head. “Ah, Gabrielle. You look rough. Are you good?” I stood by the door, my hand gripping tightly around the door knob. “I’m fine. Just wondering what’s happening here.” She stood up and walked over the closet room. “Didn’t Lila tell you her birthday was coming up?” “Yay! Birthday,” Lila squealed in her father’s arm. Damon flipped through her storybook, obviously not interested in the conversation. Anya walked back into the room. “So I decided to come stay here for a few days. She always celebrates her birthday her with her daddy and her friends.” Oh. That made sense. But something about it didn’t seem right with me. “That’s very nice,” I said, watching her check her reflection in the mirror. “When did you get here? I can have Susan clean up one of rooms for you.” She waved her hand at me. “Nonsense. I’m not a guest, Gabrielle. You don’t have to host me. I once lived here too.” Her words hit something in my chest. I look
