DAISY

Author's POV

Daisy groaned aloud as her alarm binged, she always doesn't wake up at the first sound of her alarm, her hand snaked out from under her blanket as she stopped the alarm, she smiled, what a blessed quietness, peace, at last, she coiled up in bed and covered the duvet over her head as she delved once more into dream Land.

"Daisy you're going to be late for class" her mother's voice penetrated into her fog-filled brain, "just another alarm" she muttered but this was an alarm she couldn't stop.

It was winter period and she hated coming out of the warmth of her bed, so she ignored her mother's voice and continued with her sleep.

"Daisy, Daisy" she heard her mother call her repeatedly, she heard footsteps as her mom jerked the blanket away from her, "if you're going to be late for school young lady, don't make me late for my work"

"Don't make me late for school also" her younger sister Alice chirped

Daisy stretched and rubbed her eyes, her gaze fell on Alice who was already dressed for school and she frowned, how did she manage to always wake up so early even in this winter period.

They are both in high school, with Alice's school just a block from hers, her eyes fell on her bedside clock and her eyes widened as she jumped down from bed, completely throwing the blanket off her.

"Jeez mom, I'm gonna be late for class" she screeched as she dashed into the bathroom, from the corner of her eyes, she saw Alice rolling her eyes just before she dashed into the bathroom and she heard her mom mutter, "yeah right".

She quickly had a warm bath, she smiled when she came out to see her mom had already arranged her school wears for her on the bed, she quickly put them in and ran downstairs for her breakfast, she almost trip down the stairs, "don't go falling on your face again, so clumsy" Alice muttered with a shake of her head

"Is that how to talk to your big sis?" Daisy snapped as she sat at the table for breakfast and Alice snickered earning her a slap on the head from Daisy.

"Mom, Daisy just slapped me"

"I did not" Daisy denied.

"Can you girls just have your breakfast in peace so that we can leave" their mother's exasperated voice could be heard as she came out from the kitchen and placed their meals on the table and Daisy stuck out her tongue to Alice who groaned in anger.

"I saw that Daisy, behave yourself" her mother reprimanded and Alice glanced at her with a look of triumph as they all started eating, soon they were through and their mom drove them to school.

That evening, over dinner, Their mother cleared her throat, "I have news for you girls" she announced and they both glanced up at her, waiting for her to spill.

"I've been transferred to the states"

Daisy's heart thudded and she didn't wanna hear what was coming next, "we're moving" her mother announced glancing at them both. Alice squealed, "yeah, I'm gonna make new friends, I'm damn tired of my friends here, they're so picky" but Daisy wasn't feeling the same excitement, she don't want to move to another damn state, she loves it here, she loves her school and her small group of friends, she thought of her crush Kyle, she had a crush on him for so long, even if he hadn't glanced her way for once, she's contented just watching him from afar, "no" she gasped and her mother quickly walked to her side, "why sweetheart, you're gonna love it there I promise, you'll make new friends".

Daisy stood up, throwing her napkin on the table, tears forming in her eyes, "no mom, I don't want new friends, I like it here"

"You don't have a choice in this young lady, we're talking about my job here, we're moving next week" her mother inserted a d Daisy couldn't take it anymore, she dashed upstairs and banged the door behind her.

"Don't worry mom, she'll come around" she heard Alice say to their mom

"I know, I'm glad you're cool with it" she heard her mom reply before she shut them out of her head, she burrowed into her blanket and shut her eyes, she thought of her best friend Penelope, she was gonna miss her and then her thoughts went back to Kyle her crush, his Sandy hair that's always scattered from the breeze and his blue laughing eyes, he was every girl's fantasy and she had been his secret admirer since junior high school, the thought of leaving him broke her heart, she would miss him.

She wiped a tear and picked up her phone, dialing Penelope's number, she gave her the news of her leaving.

"Oh my! Daisy, I'm gonna miss you" Penelope cried.

"I'll miss you too Penelope, I don't wish to leave"

"But you can't stay behind, you have to be with your family".

Daisy was silent for a while, her mind on Kyle.

"You're thinking of Kyle, aren't you?" Penelope asked in a knowing voice, it was a secret they both shared, Penelope had always encouraged Daisy to tell Kyle about her feelings but Daisy had been too chicken-hearted to do so.

"Yeah, I'll miss Kyle a lot, it hurts that I'm parting with him" Daisy answered her best friend quietly and they both grew quiet for a while.

"Why don't you tell him how you feel before leaving?"

"What good will come out of it, I'm leaving anyway" she could hear Penelope sighed

"Do not forget, I'm your BFF" Penelope said from the other end and Daisy understood her message

"None can replace you, you'll always be my BFF" Daisy retorted as she hung up, tears rolling down her cheeks, she lay on the bed and burrowed into its warmth, she thought of where they were moving to and wondered how the school would look like, she wondered if she would make any friends at all.

Ms. Lorna, Daisy's mother wore a worried frown that night as she paced in her room, she knew Daisy wouldn't take the news of their moving very well but never knew she would react so strongly against it, was she doing the right thing? She asked herself for what seemed like the hundredth time just as her phone rang, she glanced at the caller and quickly picked, "hello Jeremy" her voice came out in a croak and she cleared it before repeating herself.

"Are you okay?" His voice was laced with concern even over the phone and Lorna closed her eyes briefly, trying to rein in her emotions, "did something happen to the kids?"

"I just Informed them about our moving, as expected, Alice took it well but I am afraid, I can't say the same for Daisy" Jeremy was quiet for a moment and a ting of doubt suddenly ran through Lorna's heart, "do you think we're doing the right thing?" Her voice mirrored her doubt as she spoke.

"I hope so Lorna, I am sorry for what I am making you go through"

"what if the kids find out the truth?" There was a momentary silence as if he was pondering on her question before his reply finally came, "we'll take it one step at a time, someday, they'll have to learn about the truth and we'll handle it then"

Lorna sighed as she hung up the phone. Jeremy was her high school sweetheart, they had been separated for years, she had married but then her husband had left without even a word, till date, she had no idea where he could be, Jeremy had also gotten married but had recently divorced and so, they had decided to build their relationship once more, he had one daughter with his ex-wife and she had two daughters, they planned on starting a new life with their kids but none has had the courage to inform the kids of their plans, they'll take it one day at a time, so, she had decided to move to his town, and when the kids are finally settled, they'll take their time to make them understand why they both want to get married.
