A new life

Author's POV

"Here we are, this is our new house ladies" Lorna announced, they had just arrived at their new house and she stared at her children hoping they would like their new abode, Alice's eyes rounded in excitement, "wow, this is so much bigger than our old house and beautiful" her eyes were wide-eyed and her voice awestruck as she squealed in excitement, jumping with her pigtail bobbling, "I love it, mom, I'm gonna take a look around" no sooner had the words left her lips that she dashed out of the house, laughing. Lorna turned to Daisy, hoping to get a reaction from her but she only got a shrug, "where's my room?"

"You can pick any room you like sweetheart" with that, Daisy went inside, she choose a room that is at the extreme end, and went back downstairs to get her belongings, "dear, what do you think about the house?" Her mother asked, following her upstairs, "you've made your choice mom, my opinion doesn't count" she shut the door to her room, shutting her mom out.

Lorna stood there staring at the door for a while, Daisy could be a bit difficult when she wants to, she would give her time to get used to this life because whether she likes it or not, this is their life now, slowly she went back downstairs to bring in their remaining belongings.

Daisy stood by the window, staring at the woods, she felt hurt, she misses her friends in the states already, and Kyle, she might never get to set her eyes on him again, she hated it here already, and she vowed never to have any friend here, she doesn't understand why her mom would have to move, "hey Daisy, come see my room, it's super cool" she heard Alice called out but she doesn't feel like seeing anything right now, she doesn't understand Alice excitement either, although, Alice was the easy going kind of girl and making friends for her is as simple as ABC but for someone like her who is reserved, making friends wasn't easy for her, in the whole of her sixteen years, she has just one friend and that has been her childhood friend, Penelope. she would just have to do everything to get her out of here, she would study hard, get admission into college and get the hell outta here to never step foot here again.

She brought out her diary, her only companion now, "dear diary, it's my first day in our new house and I hate it here, I miss Penelope and most especially, I miss Kyle, I can't wait to leave this place forever...new goals...

Study hard, get into college and get my butt outta here"

She closed her diary and flopped on the bed sighing

"Hey sweetheart, dinner is ready" she heard her mother call, she must have fallen asleep because it was almost dark already when she opened her eyes, "I'm not hungry mom"

"Young lady, stop sulking already and get your ass down here this instance" she knew that tone of her mother's and she groaned in frustration knowing fully well that she couldn't go against her mom when she uses that tone of hers, she opened the door and the smell of lasagna hit her nostrils, her stomach grumbled and she realized she was famished, Alice was seated already, devouring her meal and paying no attention to Daisy, Daisy envied her, she seemed to be enjoying herself already, she sat down and munch on her meal.

"I'll take you guys to your new school tomorrow," her mother said in between bites, and Daisy's head throbbed, how would she cope in her new school? Her palms grew sweaty, and she wished her mother would understand her, she suddenly lost her appetite as she stood up, pushing her chair back, she went back into her room and this time, cried her eyes out.

Lorna watched her daughter leave and stood up to follow her but a hand stopped her, "let her be mom, she'll come around" her gaze met Alice's brown eyes, so much like her Dad, she looked all grown up and she was suddenly grateful for her, "you don't seem to have a problem moving down here" she said more like a statement than a question, " I know you have a good reason for relocating, besides, I truly like it here, it's cool, I can't wait to start school and make new friends" Lorna laughed at her daughter's exuberance, she just wished Daisy would feel the same way, she believed Daisy will come to like this place and her new school as much as she loved her old school. Her mind wandered to Jeremy and she shivered at the thought of Daisy's reaction in knowing that she was planning to remarry, at least she would have a father figure in her life, she knew that Daisy had always longed for her father, she could only hope she accepts Jeremy into her life to play the role of a father, it won't be easy but she would have to try. she wondered how Alice would take the news also but she wasn't sure Alice would have any problem with that and just as Jeremy had suggested, they would have to take it one step at a time.

Daisy couldn't sleep that night, she don't understand why her mom had to relocate, she had hopes that as long as they were still in their old house, her Dad might just suddenly show up one day but now there's no chance of him ever coming back, she missed him so much, she was only little when he left but she still remembered him very well, "oh dad! Why do you have to go?" She cried, her heart was heavy, it wasn't easy for her to adapt to a place but right now, she was being forced to do so, now she'll have to meet new people in school, what if they do not like her? what should she do then? Her eyes drifted shut thinking of it all, tomorrow will be a very long day for her and she's so not looking forward to it.
